Dumbasses. Fortunately most of those people seem to be gone.

That seemed to be the attitude back then. I remember when I got sub-defaulted for mentioning that jump would be nice. I'd like to know how many of those imbeciles still feel so adamantly against it now that they realize how fun and convenient it can be.

I'd put jump in the "adding things just for the sake of adding them" category along with the scattered bits of poor voice acting. Things that haven't really done much for me, but seem to make others happy just by being there.

You'd prefer to spend 5 minutes running around a knee high fence and the like again? I'd say it's done more than just "be there for the sake of being there".

Time warp back to 2010? There is no logical reason for being against jumping in an MMO. It's a vital tool to navigating the world.

But it's sooooooooo unrealistic and totally ruins immersion and would you just look at the grass?

I didn't say get rid of it. It serves an occasional useful purpose. It's just not the amazing addition to the game some of you make it out to be. Call it a "less enthusiastic" perspective on jump.

I'd love to see basketball courts at the Golden Saucer. My character could probably dunk from beyond the free-throw line while wearing a full set of noct armor.

Now you're just being stupid. I'm replaying FFXI at the moment and I'd kill for the ability to jump. I've wasted so much time going the long way because a log or some **** was in the way.

........wha?

I like the ability to jump in FFXIV.

There are nifty little short-cuts and ways to avoid getting aggro by mobs by jumping over fences, jumping up onto rocks, etc.

And "Poor Voice Acting"? The few cutscenes that do have them, I didn't think the VA was THAT bad...? *blinks* maybe not Triple Platinum AAA or anything, maybe not Laura Bailey or Jennifer Hale level of Video Game VA, but it wasn't THAT bad.....

I like the look of the first weapon pictured(also off to the side in red), but that armor...

The first pic they showed at E3 made me think of DBZ which is understandable. Kinda looks like my Hanzo from PAD. The pics for the armor labeled for PvP though... what the hell are they thinking Smiley: oyvey

The voice acting is particularly bad in the Gridania mission cutscenes. Yda and Papalymo are especially terrible, and the Elder Seedseer (who is appropriately named after a common medicine for constipation) isn't much better.

It's just an honest opinion. Many players probably couldn't care less about some of the other stuff I care more about than jumping. And that's fine. Now that I think of it though. There are times when I still have to take a longer way around in XIV. Because I couldn't jump high enough or some invisible wall is in the way.Smiley: mad

That voice acting though...calling it poor was putting it gently. I think it is THAT bad.

I feel that the voice acting is pretty dang good, but I played GW2 before ARR launched, and the voice acting in that game is absolutely atrocious... and there's more of it, which just makes it worse.

The voice acting isn't terrible. It's just not the quality we've come to expect from modern games.

I switched to the Japanese voices. It's cheaper to get good voices in Japan and I suspect that SE has no qualms about throwing money at particularly sought after talent when necessary.

If you're used to watching subtitled anime like I am, it's quite nice. Minfilia has this low, pleasant voice.

I would have to admit, it'd have been awesome if Cmdr. Shepard did Minfilia. lol.

Oh wait, if she did, then we'd all expect Minfilia to single-handedly wipe out the bad guys.

EDIT: Oh wait... not Minfilia. Merlwyb. lol. She's supposed to be a badass pirate admiral, right?

It struck me as pretty lackluster. Most of the voice acting sounds like they were going out of their way to talk slowly and over-enunciate everything. Only Merlwyb stands out to me as someone who sounds natural. Thancred early on feels unnatural too, but I think he gets better as the game goes on.

I have to admit, i am more interested in rogue then ninja. I mean i am happy for any new jobs but honestly, i won't be trying either one of these out anytime soon. I am going to feel like i am playing a Naruto game w/ all the ninja's running around for awhile.

I know they said they are going to add a healing and tank job soon (hope SAM is the tank job personally) but i think it would be best if they released all the jobs at the same time, ONLY because if they release another DPS job before the others, it will make the insanely long que's as DPS even worse. I mean, 2 healers, 2 tanks and 6 dps jobs, no wonder dps's have to wait forever to que. to bad i already have both tank jobs lvl to 50. i bet i could get alot of levels running all the NIN's through dungeons.

Honestly I think SE set themselves up a little to get some dissapointed people when they decided to mention beforehand that they will be releasing a dagger class and a gun class. The reason is that when they say that AND are close to E3 where they announced the Arcanist class, people start having (mauye unrealistic) expectations that often seem to go beyond what might be good.

For example, if they all of a sudden announced BAM rogue/nin people would still gumble I am sure, but I do think there would be less grumbling because they had not been expecting the THF announcement now. Although I might be wrong on that I do believe it is even more so when it comes to expectations of what is going to be announced. For example, since they had previously said they are going to release a dagger and a gun class people start thinking well E3 is the place, sweet. Also at least I started thinking that since Arcanist has two jobs attached to it, the coming classes would too. So I end up hoping (in a way expecting) two classes and four jobs announced. When in the end they announce rogue/nin instead of me going "awesome" I end up looking for more and being a bit dissapointed when nothing more is coming. For me at least this could have been easily avoided if they had just not gone out earlier and said "dagger/gun class sooner than you think".

Maybe it is just me but these announcements of announcements and reveals hinting of more info is just making me dissapointed when really it should have just been great news. Another job, and it being NIN is so cool! Yes, I should have learned by now, and yes I probably always have too high expectiations, I know its my own fault, but still I can not help it lol.

For those wondering I was hoping for a two class/four job announcement of which a new healer would be one. The reason is mainly that a new healer job I would like or blue mage is something that might actually make me want to give ARR a shot again in conjunction with the addition of Gold Saucer and such. I think most people can relate to how important having a job you enjoy is to any game and I was just hoping and almost actually expecting this might be it, now again I realize I might have just had too high expectations, but I do still feel a little like SE made it easy for me to get there so to speak.

Reading what I have just written I feel like what I wanted to do was complain somewhat that SE unnecessarily set people up to feel dissapointed a lot of the time, but in the end I guess I just showed more that I set myself up for dissapointment regardless of SE. I do not usually feel the same way in other games, but that probably has more to with the fact that I am a FF fan and just want more in ff games.

I suppose it has to do with me having minor APD, but I'd rather have voices that sound slightly unnatural because they are over-enunciated, rather than "natural" and less enunciated and me end up missing things that were said.

It is one of the reasons why I *always* turn Subtitles on, even on games that have English VA.

There's no sugarcoating, it's fairly bad, which is why most tend to switch Audio to Japanese and use subs even if they're not fully accurate.

If rogue / ninja has sneak attack / trick attack and some version of "Flee" I could definitely get into that.
