One Small Disappointment from 2.3Follow

I was really looking forward to being able to dust off and dye my Gallant Armor for glamoring purposes. It was just a little thing I thought looked like a fun addition, but man has SE really gone overboard with this one. You don't just instantly gain the ability to do so, oh no... you'll need 7 armor augmentations from master Alchemists to be able to dye the whole set. This takes 7 Wolfram Ingots (HQ sold for about 380k on a good day on the MB prior to 2.3 and you'd never see NQ ones listed), 7 terminus putties (about 90k a piece), and a Wolfram Square (a new recipe with no price history as of yet, put it's the same recipe as the ingot soooo...). Thus, these will probably be disgustingly expensive unless the prices for these really take a nose dive (and why would they since no recipes are going to add to even further demand for these wolfram ingots) and hardly anyone will ever take advantage of. It's a shame. :(

It reminds me of the tank mounts they added in 2.2. "We'd like to do something to reward tanks and encourage people to play them", they said, and it sounded great. "All you have to do is an ungodly amount of the highest level content, so HAHA."

Why are the requirements for such trivial things so high?

Well that really is a disappointment... I was hoping to do the same for my SCH's AF gear. I guess I'll have to scrounge up some pieces or not bother with it at all.

Instead of buying the straight materials, most crafters that can make these can also make the ingredients for them. Buy the myth tome items for less than 1/3 of that price, and let the crafter make the mats.

I've seen the augmented ilvl90 stuff go for 10 million gil on my server, isn't it just a sparkling effect?

You'd need someone capable of making 3 star alchemy, blacksmith, and armorer recipes for them to be able to make all of their own ingredients. In order to make one augmentation you'd need 3 myth mats - 2 scheelites and some tawny latex, so even if you *do* know one of the rare people who have mastered all three of these crafts it's still going to take you 1150 myth to make one augmentation. That's pretty ridiculous IMO.

Yes but people love particle effects so they got what they wished for. As for this, people been begging SE to not throw crafters aside even though Yoshi said he's making it worthless to do in the long run...so this is in a way to give them an actual use.

Since quite frankly, if the new dungeons dropped i80 or 90 aetherial gear, crafting would be DEAD.

I don't understand why they've done this either. It's essentially just a glamour effect isn't it?

I went after thsi last night. Bought 4 gamma HQ's, made the fifth, turned it in, got the original master book and holy crap I need to fully meld my alchemist. 391 craft required. Yaaay. And the supplies for each augmentation cost an arm and a leg.

Yeah. Not gonna happen.

I've got 8.5 million, and I glamour damn near everything, but I'm not touching this one. I know when I'm overspending, and I'm not paying Low Kick's 1.5 million price for an augmentation, no matter how bad I want it, lol.

It just strikes me as really odd... everyone seems to be under the assumption that SE is steering crafters towards focusing specifically on one particular craft but every master recipe seems to require 3 star mats from a different craft. As an armorer I can't make pretty much anything without wolfram ingots and I can't make them!

This also really sucks for anyone hoping to upgrade their primal weapons as well. Seems like they almost all need wolfram ingots.

Alchemists and Culinarians are going to remain relevant DoH for the foreseeable future.

Mastering the crafts is a bit of an exaggeration. There is no HQ possible/required for these items, so you just need a crafter that bought all 3 of those master books that came out several months ago, as well as the new alchemy one.

Well, the 391 required craftmanship is truly something only a master in that craft can do. You'd basicly need to fully meld your crafter out, in every slot, as well as grind the 50x 2-star items to buy your craft's new Main Tool, just to hit that number.

I considder myself quite a crafter, but even i dont have those numbers even on my most favorite jobs. And i doubt more than a handfull of people across your entire server have those.
