Background MusicFollow

Hi guys!

I wanted to see if you guys play any other music besides ffxiv default music, while battling primals or going in dungeons or when crafting, etc. Here's my favorite when I go into battle anywhere in Eorzea!

I gotta say there isn't much music in this game that I really like. The primals are quite well done, as is Tam Tam and Lost City of Amdapor (which is by FAR my favorite), but otherwise to me it seems like the composer didn't take into consideration the tone and environment for the zones he was composing music for. This is a stark contrast from XI, where seemingly ALL the music fit the environment, as if the composer was looking at art of the game as he was writing. XIV's background music is just so tone deaf to me, and loud and bombastic. I usually end up listening to the XI OSTs on youtube.

Like I said, Lost City is by far my favorite. It just suits the area so well. It compliments it, and adds to the immersion.

For when I'm doing Coil:

1.0 music was done in the same fashion, nobuo looked at art of the areas and composed, but they were often misplaced in some situations. Also for those that don't know or remember:

This is the theme that's been butchered to a short loop. They should have just left it as is honestly :\

I have a subscription to DI.FM and I usually just tune it in to epic trance most of the time.

The exception is Pharos Sirius. You gotta have that music going, at least in the beginning.

Yeah, I looped the file myself and readded it to the game lol, needless to say, the way they layer the music for 'dual' tracks (like CT/ST/Coil/HM dungeons) kinda makes it a bit funky.

Haven't been a fan of any of the BGM for XIV since Uematsu left(and haven't played much lately), but this song from one of the projects he's working on recently is one of my faves. Pretty much everything I've heard makes me believe that this game is going to restore JRPG to where it was when SE left it in 2000...

Actually, Uematsu left SE in 2004 to become a freelancer. Since then, he's just contracted to work for SE from time-to-time.

I would like to point out that a lot of music that is in the game was in 1.0. Instead of remaking the music they kept those tracks and scattered them throughout the game. So it isnt surprising if the music doesnt fit the zone since they werent custom made for them at all.

Not a lot, a handful. Some that were remade were only 20-30 second loops at the start of a dungeon.

They started using more and more of the 1.0 soundtrack each update and honestly, I'm hoping they restore some of the old area themes as well because quite frankly...they felt more..like i was in a FF game than anything.

Right, but he's no longer working on XIV. It's not that I think the music for the game is horrible, it's just not a highlight to me. The last single player RPG that I enjoyed from SE(FF series) was FFIX. I appreciated that XII was different, but I couldn't get into it and I was too busy with XI at the time anyway. I'm not sure if it was coincidental or not, but I haven't really been excited for any FF titles since then.

Really? FFXII played a lot like an MMO which is what i liked about it. If an MMO was made single player, FFXII is what it would be like. The beginning doesn't pick up right away, and the game may seem a little easy at first. But trust me later on it gets much more complex and there is A LOT of side stuff to do. Theres a bunch of super bosses and loot to get (and theres even a hunt system lol). I don't recommend skipping XII. If you do play it though I would try out the international version. It creates the job system instead of everyone being able to do everything. This actually increases the difficulty substantially since the game wasn't initially built that way. It's great if your into tough RPG's (I am. I'm too good at RPG's now and not many games give me a challenge any more).

Something I've gotten into more recently(past couple years or so) is post-rock type stuff. Lots of instrumentals. Nice background music. I have a decent playlist on YT that I add to now & then(Or subtract from when stuff gets removedSmiley: cry). Something like 27 hours worth now. I can just let that go on autoplay.

I feel the need to play this sometimes when in Sahagin territory:

An instrumental that gets me in the mood to fight stuff. From one of the movies I'm often watching while fishing & such:

HUGE omission by me. This is a fantastic piece. If XIV was my first MMO, I'd have nostalgic feelings for this for the rest of my life, like I do Gustaberg.

When they played that at the Final Fantasy: A New World concert, about half the audience choked up a bit. I don't think Nobue Uematsu and Arnie Roth expected people to actually cry.

Yeah, a decent amount of the 1.0 soundtrack was like that for me. I know it wasn't to everyone's preference but there were zones that I'd walk into for the first time and be floored by the music and the atmosphere that it helped create.

Edit: spoiler tag to reduce clutter, music vids ahead.

The emotion in these tracks made these portions of Eorzea so pleasant to be a part of, and they're just a reminder of why Uematsu is one of my favorite video game composers.

I was playing XI at the time, which(not surprisingly) also played like an MMO Smiley: lol

I didn't dislike what I played of it, but I wasn't compelled to finish it off. Maybe one of these days I'll get back into it.

These are great! I'm gonna add these to my playlist. Smiley: cool

I also like the nightcore and lustcore mixes when I'm just roaming around town.

As they stated. FFXII was their attempt at bringing FFXI "offline" essentially and to do with it what they couldn't do with FFXI at the time.

Was going through my backlog of songs, and use this:

For Coil 8/9..something about it gives me more of an..urgency/epic feel compared to what is used. Maybe it's because of clearing the content in 1.23 that it doesnt have the same effect anymore, but this song was just so <3

ACP: The worst story line SE came up with since Final Fantasy Unlimited. It's a shame, the idea was great but the execution was just bad.

At least the Moogle and Shantotto ones were funny.

Main reason for that was because they got the guy who did the original FFXI story that never touched XI since vanilla to do it, so it was still fairly..broken considering all that happened since 2002's original storyline haha.
