Unless they also have full access to your email, an authenticator is pointless.
If anyone tries to log in to your account from a diffirent computer anywhere else in the world but from your computer, they will be locked out from playing anyhow. They cant get in, unless you somehow (why would you?) give them access by allowing them to use it through your own confirmation email.
I'd rather like avoiding the hassle of needing more codes just to login to this game. Or being majorly screwed if your phone ever dies, gets stolen or is missing which are infinitely more likely events to happen.

Don't use the phone app then?
*shrugs*
A little dongle that you keep near your computer is not hard to use at all, and it makes it nearly impossible for anybody to attempt to get on without your permission. Even if they know your email AND password... they can't log in without the authenticator.
AND
It gives you an extra, FREE Teleport Location in FFXIV. Why not, right? Oh, and in FFXI, it gives you a free 80 slots of inventory you can access anywhere anytime.
Why not, right? It only takes 2 seconds to push a button and 3 seconds to type a 6-digit code once per login. Are you really saying that 10 seconds is too much "work"?
