Once you get to lvl 30 and acquire your job (WHM & BLM for me), do you level in class mode or job mode? Last night I got in Duty Finder as BLM but found it a bit easier to do quests as Thaum since I could access Cure and Protect. I was curious what other people do.

It's doable either way, but the higher level you go, the more it's quietly frowned on if you aren't in job mode. BLM can access Physic anyway, so no loss just because Cure and Protect are locked away.

You may have cure and protect as a Thaumaturge, but you're missing out on 20 INT and BLM specific spells, effectively gimping your damage output.

If you're in a dungeon: Job most of the time. A BLM won't be casting any kind of cures or protect unless something has gone horribly wrong, and by then it won't be much help.

Solo: Your choice. I did a lot of my solo stuff as THM until I hit 50 BLM - now I am just so used to my BLM rotation it'd feel weird trying anything else.

BLMs can equip Physick from Arcanists which is the equivalent of the Cure spell. I've kept that on my BLM, although it's rare that it makes any difference because it's terribly underpowered without substantially more MND than BLMs typically have on their gear (sometimes it can save you if you can sleep the mob about to eat you so you can heal up for a few seconds).

As far as Conjurer vs. White Mage, I can't think of any reason you'd ever want to use Conjurer again. White Mage outclasses it in every way.

After unlocking BLM, I don't think I really ever went back to doing stuff as THM, even while soloing. BLM gets the benefit of higher stats. Between the increased nuking potency and sleep, I never really needed the benefits of Protect or any other cross class ability I couldn't get as BLM.

Plus, once you hit 45 and start wearing AF, it's a pain to maintain non-AF gear to use (since AF isn't useable by the base class).

The only time I have ever felt the need to use a class over a job was in Wolves Den PVP when I could gain more benefit from using my MRD instead of WAR.

Exactly, that's the thing. Marauder is the only exception since WAR is full-on defensive.

Every other job is exactly like it's original class, but with a lot more power and (handy) skills. Cross-classing will do very little for you on anything that isnt a Marauder.
