Sound desync issueFollow

So I've been playing this game on PS3 for about a year before it crapped out. In my time playing it, I noticed a weird issue; generally the longer I was playing the game, the more the game audio would start to desync with what was actually going on. After an entire day of playing the desync would be around 3/4 of a second. This would be temporarily remedied if I exited the game and went back to the launcher, but usually by the time the desync would get really noticeable, it would be about bedtime for me anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Fast forward to today, where I've started to play this game on a new PC I've acquired. It's a pretty solid PC and runs this game very nicely. Problem is, I'm noticing the desync issue coming back with a vengeance. The desync builds up much faster than it did on the PS3, I've had it go upward to about 1.5 seconds in just a few hours, and it doesn't only happen with XIV, it also happens with XI, or even when I don't even have either of these games running. Only restarting the entire PC seems to get rid of the desync, and this is getting to be rather a pain. For reference, on my last computer, which was only good enough to barely run XI, I never had any desync issue on that.

Anyone have any ideas of how I can remedy this, aside from the constant reboots?

This computer is running windows 8, if that matters any. Can try to give other specs on request.

Something I've noticed about this desync issue is that I've only started to notice it happening when I started to use HDMI to connect these devices to my TV (my previous comp was on a standard monitor + speakers and like I said, it never had desync issues). I'm guessing that shouldn't have anything to do with the problem, but can't help but notice it's all started with these HDMI things.

Sorry, reading the other replies it seems i didnt fully grasp the problem. What they're saying is making more sense.

It's either your TV or the HDMI cable. Two completely different devices have the sound desynchronize when hooked up to your TV through HDMI. The only factor tying them together is being hooked up with HDMI to your TV.

You don't have an excessively long HDMI cable, do you? It might be attenuating the signal.

It's a 9' cable, which is as long as it needs to be in order for the computer to reach my tv without having to do some rearrangements in my room. Is that excessively long?

With the PS3, I assumed that the desync was occurring due to the thing being overworked (the desync would build up faster, for instance, if I spent more time in busy areas like Revenant's Toll). I don't know if that assumption was correct or not anymore.

9' isn't bad. Perhaps it's the wire itself. Does it happen to be the same wire that you used on the PS3? If not that, then same brand? Trying using a different video/audio connection and see if the issue still occurs to test the theory.

Also, is it the same TV?

Two totally different wires, different brands. Same tv.

HDMI is the only thing I can use on this computer for video because the usual port for a monitor connection is blocked off (it's how I got it)

Thinking the most likely culprit is with the tv and how it's handling HDMI.

Just built up some desync and tried pulling out the HDMI cord from the tv for a few seconds and plugging it back in. That got rid of the desync. I'm sure that's just a temporary fix though.

Might have to try using an alternate output for the sound, if the only sort of permanent fix is going to be "get a different tv". Already spent quite a bit on this pc >_>

Same TV?

Well, the chances of that being the issue is pretty damn high. Can you perhaps share what TV it is, brand model and all? Maybe there is a fix for it. If anything, I bet you can find people with similar issues through Google.

I'm also willing to bet that if you used a different sound system, it would also solve the issue. (Like a sound bar or some such.)

It's a Sharp LCDTV, not sure where to find any info beyond that :/

Simply changing inputs (like, switching to regular tv channels then back to the HDMI imput) is enough to temporarily remove the desync and that only takes a few seconds to do, so gonna just put up with that until I have the patience to rearrange the stuff on my desk such that my computer speakers are near where the tv is >_> That pretty much confirms that it's an issue with the tv, though.

It's really funny to me how I went nearly a year thinking that it was just an issue of the PS3 being overworked and starting to lag behind in some of its processes. The PS3 *was* being overworked (otherwise I wouldn't have killed it in a year; my *used* PS2 gave me nearly a decade of playing FFXI before crapping out) but apparently this wasn't actually one of its symptoms o_O

I agree sounds like your tv...
If you have a model # you might or we can find out if this is common to the tv or if there is a fix like some sort of firmware.
If it was the ps3 others would have had the same issue and I have not seen that... Our ps3 was fine even though it did choke on the game.
Hell this game chokes the ps4 sometimes.
Also you have had two systems with the same issue..

By the way is it the video lagging behind the sound or the other way? how old is the TV?

Lots of time picture enhancements can slow the picture down and tuning them off can fix the problems...

My tv has a PC setting and if I dont use it there can be some lag. PC turns off all processing and uses the TV as a monitor.

Some tv's have game mode too.. Mine does but PC is even faster.

It's the sound that's lagging. Like, in FFXI, I'll scroll to the top or bottom of my inventory, and I'll hear the "clicks" a second later.

This tv isn't super old but it isn't really new either; it doesn't have a whole lot of tweakable settings beyond the ones you'd normally expect on older television sets. I've looked for picture "enhancements" and stuff like that in the settings but there isn't anything there really that could be considered an enhancement other than the backlight.

Have you checked the tv's menu for possible sound field adjustments? I know my surround sound has different settings.

There's an on/off setting for surround sound, but that's it. Messing with that has no effect on the desync.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward it being the TV the more I read, too. On the plus side, Black Friday coming up, so maybe you can snag something decent on the cheap if money isn't tight.
