[Maintenance] All Worlds Maintenance (Oct. 27-28): Later Completion Time
Regarding the previously announced all Worlds maintenance to accompany Patch 2.4, the timeframe will be changed as follows:

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/9ec60b961596b676f7eded0ffe92dc081af4870e

Before change:
Oct. 27, 2014 12:00 a.m. to Oct. 28, 2014 12:00 a.m. (PDT)

After change:
Oct. 27, 2014 12:00 a.m. to Oct. 28, 2014 1:00 a.m. (PDT)

Maintenance duration times are calculated taking many things into account, such as login numbers and server load during various times of the day, the scope of the update content, and the nature of the work to be performed. However, we received feedback from our players which stated that the one hour gap between the originally scheduled maintenance’s end time and the weekly reset time may result in a rush of player logins, potentially causing server congestion and general chaos. For this reason, we have decided to extend the maintenance end time by one hour. Thank you all for your various feedback.

We realize this is an extremely extended maintenance, but we ask for your patience and cooperation and apologize for the inconvenience.

[Date & Time]
Oct. 27, 2014 12:00 a.m. to Oct. 28, 2014 1:00 a.m. (PDT)

* The completion time may be subject to change.

So they re-did their napkin math and decided that, no... 24 hours is simply not enough for this... this will take 25 hours.

Meh, it still comes up when I'll be asleep. So unless they add six more hours to it, I'm good.

It helps if you actually bother to *read* the post.

This.

They knew players would hound the servers to try to get weekly stuff done as soon as the servers come online because some people procrastinate way too much, despite having a whole week to get weekly stuff done, too many wait until the last day and go "OMG I GOTTA GET THIS DONE!"

By extending the maint one hour, they make sure the servers are offline until AFTER the reset, which means far fewer people will feel compelled to log in as soon as the servers come online, therefore the servers should be more stable when they do come back up. It also gives them an extra hour padding in case something goes wrong and/or they need more time, so win-win.

25h maintenance can suck, but hey. I'd rather 25h maintenance than for them to say 12 hours and then later on, something like this happens:

12:00: Oops, we gotta extend it 2 hours.
14:00: No wait, we need another 2 hours.
16:00: Silly us, we're going to need another 4 hours.
20:00: You know when we said 4 hours? We actually meant 8. Sorry about that.
00:00: Uh, please bear with us, we're really sorry but we aaaalllllllllllmost got the servers back up, we need another hour or so!"

So yeah I'd rather they just add the other hour on, give themselves a little breathing room to make sure everything is gonna be done right, the first time unlike a few other MMOs that try to rush the maint because of the masses of whiny people wanting the game up "NAO!".

I did, that's why I was able to make a joke. If I hadn't read the post, I'd have had no material. I didn't realize this was a matter of life and death or I'd have treated it with the solemnity and consideration it apparently deserves.

Just as long as I can buy the plot of land I want in one of the wards, I don't care how long it takes.

I don't think that the maintenance is going to slow the rush much. Cause... honestly. Housing. Lots of people swarming for housing.

BUY ALL THE LANDS!

I'm only disappointed about this in the sense that I can't say it will be a "24 hour maint for patch 2.4" anymore.
