You should be able to download the client for free for PC here: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na/

If you are on PS3 or PS4, the only way to download is via PSN. Someone else will have to answer whether that entails another purchase.

I would contact Square Enix customer support and ask if you can mail in the chewed up disc and get a replacement or access to the digital version that way. Or check for a used disc version on eBay - perhaps someone has one for sale.

Guess you're the reason stores push to sell insurance on games now.

I do not have pets, but I guess my mom's dog isn't too unique in the choice of item to chew. ( Just teasing ;-) )

I have a dog. If she was to chew something up (and she has), I don't expect the manufacturer to be responsible.

Edit: get your dog some toys and train it to chew on them.

PS4 version requires the disc to play? Considering PS3 owners got a free upgrade... this can't be the case? How are you a subbed customer on console but can't access w/out a disc? Is there an option to play with a partial install that I'm unaware of? Sorry, just seems fishy to me... if the disc was in the console and then you switched discs... meh my heads spinning.

At least your dog has good taste in games

I'm pretty sure that if you buy a new copy (disc or digital) you'll get an additional 30 days with it.

Well that's something.

The PS3 version only required the disc for the initial install, and after that you never needed it again. What's more you could even download the client from PSN for free if you had to reinstall. And if you upgraded from the PS3 version to the PS4 version or bought your game digitally, you could (obviously) also play disc-free and download from PSN.

But for some reason, if you got the PS4 boxed edition, you have to play with the disc, and you're not allowed to download it free, either. Seems like a nonsensical policy to me.

Yeah I get what you mean. Not placing blame on anybody but myself. I just dont have the resources or time to go repurchase this game lol. I dipped into some funds I shouldnt of to get it in the first place haha. Was just hoping there was some way to get it with out rebuying it. I tried to find it on the PSN but only thing available is the collectors edition, and the other one says it is unavailable for download because I already purchased the game. I even tried to uninstall FF and it still says unavailable for purchase.
