First full week of the New Year! What are you hoping to do?

1. PLD to 45 since that didn't happen last week, what with the sick cat. I'll probably get that this weekend.
2. ROG to 10. Again, really easy, I got it to 7 and burned up all my resting bonus.... sigh. Should get it this weekend.
3. Get at least halfway through the book I bought last night!
4. Run old CT some more for vanity gear on both bard and warrior. I'm wearing the soldiery set unglamoured for the moment. I might have to break down and learn how to tank in there...

I'm going to be hoarding poetics for a bit until 2.5 so I'll be able to get a weapon as soon as the final part of LotA comes out.

We're starting my kitty on anti-seizure medication today, to see if that helps. Poor baby.

Managed to wrap up my atma collection over the holiday so now I am the proud owner of an artemis bow atma. Now onto books.

1. Cap poetic and get through at least 1 book. I have 41 alexandrite stocked already + 3 maps. Continue to use my daily quest for poetic to get maps to gather alexandrite so that when I get the animus I can just spend a ton of money on crit and det (and/or acc) materia and and roll right into novus. I've already bought my 3x enchanted ink... So once novus is acquired, I'll likely gather light for nexus by running frontlines (since bard is significantly more exciting than playing paladin in pvp). So the question is: can I get from atma to the novus bow in 18 days? Highly doubtful, but I'll see what happens.

2. Beat t10 and t11 on Sat/Sun. Hopefully do that without spotters. (counting down 18 days until we can run that final leg of the crystal tower and get the poetic equivalent of sands to upgrade our gear, which will help everyone out). On that note I might save my poetics from this point out so I have 2000 ready for whatever may happen come 1/20.

3. Cap poetic and gather as much soldiery as possible. Gonna need it for books and alex.

I managed get to reputation level 4 with the kobolds. Those beast tribe quests are finished--completed, done, finished. Concentrating on them has affected my speech a little--somewhat, a bit, a little.

(Okay, I'll stop. As amusing as it would be to do a post entirely with kobold speech patterns, I'd go crazy--bonkers, insane, crazy.)

Next up are the Amalj'aa since I'm based out of Ul'dah right now.

I've been slowly gathering the materials to be able to do the BSM 45 quest more easily. I have some gathering and crafting I'll have to do for some of the pieces, but it also gives me a good opportunity to burn off some ventures; concentrating on the beast tribe quests has given me almost too many.

ALC, ARM, and CRP are all in the high 30s. I should make a push to get all of them to 40.

I've also decided to make acquiring Artisan gear a goal. Bought the legs yesterday and melded it up. I want my gil to do something otherwise I'll be tempted to do something like buy a private house.

2) Cap tomes -Only about 100 atm

3) Finally start working on EX Primals - Dunno why I haven't done these yet.

4) Miner to 40 (it's 20 atm) - This shouldn't be too bad.

Well, I didn't end up getting too much done this past week for a variety of reasons. However, some things to note:

PLD i110 (still need one more sand)
Cleared King Mog and Levi EX

For this week, I'm mostly just trying to finish up what I wanted last week:

Final Sand for PLD
Cap Poetics (Need to cap next week and the week after as well to get the last stuff I want for PLD)
BTN 30
Unlock FSH (and get it to 15ish)
SCH/SMN 45 (this is now more for completion)

Hopefully things will settle down enough here for me to do some of this. Also, sheep are adorable. For real.

My goals for the week:

1) Try not to stress too much about Oregon going for its first national championship.
2) ... remember to eat.

Over the weekend I got PLD to 45, but stopped ROG at 9 because lazy.

Capped poetics, torn between hoarding them for a new weapon for BLM or BRD as soon as 2.5 hits and spending them on a new body for WAR.

I've decided that my tank, much like the majority of my crafting classes, is going to focus solely on midgame support. I have no interest in endgame tanking at all. Once I beef it up a tick or two more I might consider tanking T2 or T4 in Coil, but that's it. My endgame job will be SCH, BLM, or BRD, depending on what is needed.

But that's okay! Also like my crafting classes, there's a huge need that gets filled by ignoring the 4-star crafts and focusing solely on quality lower level stuff.

As such, I don't mind being a turtle when it comes to my relic weapon on WAR.

Did not get through the book, but did cap poetics. I'm through about 60% of the book atm, just have 1 dungeon, about 40 enemies, 2 leves, and all 3 fates to go. I remember now that I hated this step. Fates are bad enough but the dungeon queue on dps is ridiculous. I will definitely acquire the ironworks bow before novus so I'm not too concerned.

T10 down on Saturday, nothing dropped for me as usual. Beat it with no spotters so we got two chests. Drg and caster chokers. We tried t11 but it was getting late and people were making stupid mistakes. Picked it back up on Sunday and beat t11 on about the 5th try in about an hour. The tomestone, carboncoat (upgrades ironworks jewelry to augmented ilvl 130), drg/mnk bracelets, and monk feet dropped. I won the carboncoat roll fair and square, but like an idiot I accidentally hit greed on the monk feet and stole it from our caster who has priority on his monk offspec. My offspec is caster so I have no idea how I'm going to give him offspec pieces he will already have, but I'll figure out some way to make it up to him. We end up back and forthing on this kind of thing unintentionally, he didnt mean to, but he swiped t9 tank coat from me on my last t9 win when I needed it but could only greed, so I don't know, maybe now we are even.

Tried T12, got a little bit past the second bennu before the blue flame landed on my head and some tethered line killed us. Gonna have to watch a video. No coil for two weeks, aparantly half of my static is meeting up in rl, so I will get to run the next crystal tower before the next coil run.

Having enough soldiery to buy the books when I need them is not going to be a problem. I forsee myself running a lot of crystal tower in my future. Going to save all the poetics, because if skill speed is going to be adjusted next patch to be more useful, I may just buy the bard chest, bard pants, and grab two carbontwine from the crystal tower and jump them both to 130 in 2 weeks. Or I may just grab a tomestone and carbontwine from the tower and get me a 130 bow in the same amount of time. Not sure yet. Yoshi did say that the tomestone/carbontwine/coat would be a separate lockout from the armor/weapon drop, so all the more reason to fit in a few more crystal tower runs each week. Sounds exciting! Really looking forward to 1/20.

So far I've managed to:
- Cap Poetics
- Down turn 8
- Get me rogue to 16 (hurray, 30 min wait for low level trials!)
- Completed 6 Alexandrite maps

Now I'm hoping to take turn 9 down this week. Managed to get lucky on this, when I came back from a few month hiatus, my old static (well part of it anyways) was still active. They've run me through Ramuh EX, Shiva EX and slowly catching me up in Coil. I feel like a total freeloader, but I've managed to not really get hit by any of the mechanics. Oh, who I'm kidding, I'm a complete freeloader.

So far, achievements include:

1. Poetics capped, spending them on SCH/WHM gear to help solo the Alex maps more easily for my real main. Smiley: lol
2. All remaining DoW classes to 19 (MNK is my main)
3. Alex to 27/75
4. Full Glanzfaust for MNK until I can get Sphairai that beat it

Not sure where to go with the DoW classes. Tanking at these levels on Marauder is hard (particular those first Guildhests with zero enmity moves), and soloing Levequests is hard on Gladiator. Curious how tanking plays out, but not sure if I'm curious enough to take it much further. One thing is that I've been using the same gear up until now on all those low DoWs, and they're about to split, and my main priorities are Quelling Strikes and Mercy Stroke. Might try printing out the early dungeon maps and learning the way through so I can tank in a more representative setting, but kind of nervous about it. This is way different from FFXI PLD (one of my mains in the 75 cap days) -- more challenging, and I haven't decided whether that's good or bad yet.

And I'm levelling Blacksmith slowly and working on the Big Fish for FSH upgrades. Hit a real gil shortage -- was well under 100k at one point -- and that's limiting my longer term goals, so I'm focusing more on short term stuff.

Get level 12 MRD, get overpower, spam overpower until 50, win! Well, not quite, but it's damn good for hate control early on.

When I am on, you should definitely hit me up. I'm more than happy to go tank for you since I'm getting lights out of it.

On those low levels Flash (PLD) and Overpower (MRD) are your friends. The DPS can generally tank a mob or two occasionally if it gets too rough, on everything up to about Brayflox Normal. Absolutely necessary to level Paladin to get Provoke if you are going MRD. Provoke is an absolutely essential cross class skill, used to rip all the enmity off of something and put you one point above, so you can tomahawk it and put it in your favor again. Helps a lot when you lose enmity. As warrior I find it much easier to hold aggro on multiple enemies than I do paladin, because on long fights I am not as mp dependent. Bottom line is, low level MRD, dont worry about it. But if you are losing hate in Brayflox, Cutter's, or Stone Vigil, might want to watch the enmity bar a bit closer...

Ah that is right! Forgot you were on the light step. You know I spent four hours yesterday north of Whitebrim in Coerthas just standing among the dragonflys waiting for Giant Seps to pop? Oye. I think all I have left on my first book is lovely Tam Tara normal, two FATEs (one is Enmity of my Enemy (ugh)), and I think 2 leves. I'll get you for dungeons if you are on and not doing anything. That tank queue is exquisite.

I'm up to 46 PLD now and I still just don't enjoy it as much as I do WAR. Warrior tank is a very busy job, with lots of things you can do, lots of buttons to push, lots of things to juggle over all. Paladin feels very one note even at these later levels. It's like the difference between WHM and SCH to me. WHM is ultimately a more powerful healer, but SCH is so much more than just a healer. PLD is ultimately a more powerful tank, but WAR is so much more than just a tank.

I would not call PLD a more powerful tank, but it is probably a much safer tank. It's got numerous defensive abilities that WAR just does not. When you may be in situations where you have healers of varying quality, I find it better to take the safe route.

As a side note, it took me a while to get into the habit of aggressively using PLD cooldowns. The "I want to save it for an emergency" feeling isn't really that necessary when they have recast timers of at most 5 minutes. They'll be up by the time we hit the boss!

That next one is the most dreadful, where you are forced to move at a RNG free, but mindnumbingly slow, tedious, and repetitive pace...

Yeah, i've been told there's going to be a LOT of Garuda HM's in my future.

How many lights do i need? 2000 or so right? And i think you get them from mostly anywhere, so atleast i can help people with stuff again. :)

That said, productive evening and 5 Alexandrite left.
