"Regarding Character Creation Restrictions"Follow

I've been waiting almost two weeks for Gilgamesh to allow character creation once again. Finally today I see a little "O" instead of the "X" indicating you can create characters on Gilgamesh once more, but when I attempt to do so it says "This world is currently not accepting anymore new characters." Conflicting information there, or is there something I'm missing? Very frustrated because Gilgamesh is the world I've played on since 1.0 where my main character is and my girlfriend has been wanting to create a character on the same server as me so she can play to.

Thanks for any help.

Nah, it's accurate - It just means it filled up quickly, the list doesn't update quickly, but if you see it on "O" good chance it filled up almost instantly. (RMT definitely take slots as well.)

IIRC, it updates 8am, 11am and 5pm PDT. Or somewhere around those times.

So how will I ever make another character on Gilgamesh? Seems pointless to even try.

Balmung is locked out 24/7; even in those crazy morning hours when Gilgamesh opens, I never once saw Balmung open.

I ended up creating the character on another server, collecting all the Delivery Box perks, and doing a server transfer to Balmung. The world transfer service (from the Mog Station) does let you transfer even if creation is locked.

Edit: If you do want to create directly, don't wait for the news item with the O and X, it lags behind real open/close -- go through the character creation process (save your appearance data when asked so you can load it for another try another day). Once you reach the world selection, the full ones will be greyed out. Hit refresh every 3 minutes until it opens from that screen, then you will definitely hit the open window.

Does it open up that often? Thanks for the advice.

Balmung and Gilgamesh are the two most crowded servers. On the one hand, I understand wanting to play with your friends, but on the other hand, I'm not sure why anyone would opt for the most crowded servers in the game. Balmung lost to Odin the other day because there were once again so many player characters on the screen that he was untargetable, and the lag was utterly atrocious, per folks on Tumblr. (This is despite SE supposedly fixing that bug.)

The invitation to join us on Lamia is still open, and if your friends would like to come too, we'd be happy to accommodate them.

I just created an alt on Balmung for the RP, which as far as I can tell seems pretty much non-existent outside there and Gilgamesh. That would, in my mind, be the only sensible reason to create there. The first time I logged in on Balmung, my new character appeared in the Drowning Wench to open RP going on around me. I have never seen open RP on Lamia, and it's something I've wanted to do (but never had the chance) since I started FFXI over a decade ago.

But my main is still on Lamia where I spend the most time, and Catwho is correct -- we have a wonderful FC there, friendly and helpful, and we'd love to have you join us!

Very tempting of you folks, especially being as a lot of you have past experience with FFXI, not that it's a requirement but being around like-minded individuals is nice. This character is already 25 though, I wouldn't really want to re-roll. Not sure how much server transfer costs? I do appreciate it and will definitely consider it, sounds fun.

Server transfer costs $18, and (for me) takes about 10 minutes to process once you've submitted it.

And we definitely have past experience with FFXI -- sometimes it seems like half Catwho's Dynamis LS (myself included) is in The Swarm on Lamia. Just as long as your character isn't named some variation of Sephiroth... Smiley: smile

I saw open RP on Lamia once, next to the repair hut in Mor Dhona. Was two cat guys and two cat girls sitting on a bench talking about how they found a minion wandering around or something. I made a point to walk through them to remind them they were in a video game. Smiley: sly

You don't have to reroll to transfer servers. You get to keep your character, but will have to name-change if it is already taken on the new server. Other than that, you can only carry across a set amount of gil (think its 4 million or something like that, so you may want to buy allagan silver at market price off the auction house to make the transfer if you have more than that (or invest in a commodity, which may trade better when you get over to the new server). I remember buying a ton of chinchilla hide (well maybe 1 or 2 stacks) when they were 100 gil each on Ultros and everyone and their cousin were running treasure maps right when they came out in early 2.X. Undercutters crashed the market, but it was new stuff so I bought it up just to do it. Then I pay money to transfer to Lamia to meet up with Zero and Piuriu (two guys I ran XI with) and we start Swarm. Shortly after, I find out that no one on Lamia runs maps really, but really like chinchilla hide, so I turn around and sell my hides for 40k each and make my first fortune, allowing me to leave my full time job as a zircon ring maker behind forever. We then brought on Catwho soon after and she has since brought a horde of folks from XI.

I've actually considered shouting in the starter zones for any XI veterans that are looking for a FC of like minded folks. There are so many PS4 newbies running around!

You want the server Balmung. You will want to wait till the wee hours of the morning to create/transfer a character there as it is a very high pop server.

I think there is active RP on several servers, see http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/
