Bah, level caps are back in place... Well, that kills any low level dungeon outside of the last three for me then :/

Overall more positives than negatives imo...

Excitements:
Retainers on FC grounds to sell stuff like in FFXI.
Frontlines Roulette
Borderland Ruins (Slaughter)
Pony drop rate increased even further
Kirin Mount
The rate at which soulglazed relic weapons achieve soul attunement has been increased. Light gathering rate increase!!!!!
The drop rate for Alexandrite when completing a FATE with a gold rating while equipped with an animus, novus, or nexus weapon has been increased.
The level cap for desynthesis has been increased. Skill levels will no longer decrease if your combined skill level is not at the maximum.
Rank XVI exploration ventures
/random

Disappointments:
Aetherial Wheel, what it does, and its requirement of alchemist to make.
World of Darkness appears to be one drop per week overall (for everything including armor and upgrade mats)
Item level sync to 110 on older HM dungeons but it appears that materia bonuses now apply to level sync. We shall see...

yay lets hope the light increase is substantial, i hope the recipe books arent new... i still need to get the latest crafting gear and tools Id hate for recipe books to be added to that list. Im curious as to what the new trial is, it looks like its not gilgamesh which means while finally be getting a trial fight in main scenario?

i notice the notes says the next chapter in the crystal tower raid, umm shouldn't it say the FINAL chapter?

I play so rarely now its sad that story and new dungeon requirements are now up to il90 while Im barely il100 lol. they need to make getting the non weekly lockout tomes (i.e in this case soldier i believe) MUCH faster and easier to get for those of us whove reverted t casual play and dont plan on dealing with the weekly lockout stuff until lockouts have been removed,. i remember getting myth was a joke (and super fast) soldiery on the other hand requires a bit more work and effort than Id prefer to use/put in.

I also love the synthesis increase If my math is right it means we can now finally get THREE full classes to max in desynthesis.. YES!!!!

Honestly, alchemist needed something that they could profit on. All the other crafting classes are making millions and alchemist could only really make profit on a handful of weapons. Ghost Story is a well-melded alchemist, not sure if 3 star, so we can badger him about making them and give him an incentive to advance his gear.

I hear the new trial is a fight with an Ascian. Also the new recipes will automatically be added if you have the master book for that job.

"The "Most Gentlemanly" pose has been added."

Will Highlanders receive a different unique pose now this is available to all? I wish they'd revisit a lot of Highlander animations. The copy/paste of regular human ones looks really daft on their bigger frames.

Well..they're the same race, just a different clan lol so it makes sense they share a lot of emotes. The pose matched a bit more with how they're more brawn and the midlanders are more the stereotypical prettyboy.

What is a Allagan catalyst?

I was hoping to see the new World of Darkness and/or ST drop something to upgrade the new ironwork weapons like before or through hunts...

It'll probably come before 3.0 or else it would have been added to the prelim notes and I refuse to believe adding an additional sentence under WoD bout the seperate weekly lockout on upgrade items was too much work, which is what leads me to believe it's not part of 'Part 1'. Catalyst will be for new weapons which is why they're forcing us back into the older CT areas.

Allegan Catalysts ARE the Ironworks Upgrade items.

So... if I'm reading this right, that means they've permitted more than one Catalyst drop per week via doing the older Crystal Tower runs. If that's true, then this is awesome. But I want to wait and see all the typos fixed in the patch notes to be certain with that.

I dont think so because arent they well at least for the weapon and clothes carbon twine and a encrypted tome.
Carboncoat for jewelery.

Carbontwine and Carbon coat are the ones Yoshida was talking about (these upgrade/augment ironworks gear) and would make little sense to actually throw in the Poetics stuff in Labyrinth of Ancients, Circus Tower maybe. Encrypted Tomestones are in order to purchase the weapon.

Recalling my interaction with Geralt's assistance, he referred to the Carbonwire and Carboncoat specifically as Allegan catalyst items. Now they may also be referring to Sands and Oils but I don't think so. Those incentives are a bit too dated in today's raiding, but giving someone a means to get to ilvl130, especially if they put those items on a separate lock-out per raid, will defiantly up participation in the entirety of Crystal Tower.

Again, I could be wrong, but I'm leaning towards them using these upgrade items to repopulate old Crystal Tower runs.

We've given such a pounding to LotA that the entire structure of the building is crumbling and the bosses are desperately trying to clean it up, which is why they now have the items.

Yeah, the issue is the areas listed are Labyrinth of Ancients and Circus tower - When he specifically stated the Ironworks upgrade items would come from World of Darkness on a separate lockout timer from the armors (since he admitted it was a mistake to put sands/oils/tomestone on the same lockout as the armor.)

Even the Japanese notes weren't really clear about it, but it's a weird decision to throw in ironworks upgrade items to something SIGNIFICANTLY lower level (LoTA) and not in WoD at all. So while they're all called catalyst, they mentioned throwing in item for crafting the new weapons. Then again, the notes has so many typos and wrong terms used who knows what they meant.

I sure as hell not interested in reobtaining Philosophy Tomestones. Smiley: lol

The Allegan catalyst could also be the item necessary to craft the new weapons they said would also be in this patch, I don't see other sources for that currently.

None of my searches have come up with something substantial so this is a 'wait and see'.

If it is Carbonwire and Carboncoat, it'll be a nice boost to those zones. Not so sure if it's just an item for crafting weapons.

It appears that there is a weekly lockout on World of Darkness that is limited to one item.

This "allagan catalyst" can be one of the following, I presume:

The Wootz Nugget, Allagan Silk, Allagan Leather that currently drop in T1-T4.
The Carboncoat, Carbontwine, and Encrypted Tomestone we all need to get us caught up with FCOBers
A new "allagan catalyst" required to craft the new weapons.

They will definitely not be the UAT, sands, and oils that already drop in ST. That is for certain.

What I'm hoping we will hear in the final patch notes is:

Trade in X bloodied hunt logs in your GC for carboncoat or carbontwine, etc
Trade in X UAT to Aurelia for an encrypted tomestone
Trade in X sands or oils to Aurelia for carboncoat or carbontwine

I've been saving up poetics (nearly at 2000) to drop on gear once I know how easy or hard it will be to obtain carboncoat and/or encrypted tomestones. I've got 4 tomestones, 4 sands, and 4 hunt logs. And two oils I believe. Nothing to use them on...

If I base an opinion starting with the knowledge that the patch releasing sands and oils into ST coupled them in with the armors on the weekly lockout, and remember that the developers clearly addressed the issue and said that the carboncoat etc would not be on the same weekly lockout as the armors like the patch before, then the answer seems obvious. Either make them drop in World of Darkness, or make them drop elsewhere. There really isn't a reason to withhold how we would get the items. I have to assume that they released the information in this way because knowing in advance would allow some sort of market shift.

There are technically four master books for each DoH class (three for CUL, since they don't dabble in glamours). The patch notes did not indicate to which master books the new recipes were added.

To use one class's example (BSM), the requirements were:
Master Blacksmith I: 5 HQ darksteel ingots - this book has been around since at least 2.2, IIRC.
Master Blacksmith Demimateria: 5 Battlecraft Demimateria I and 5 Fieldcraft Demimateria I - added when desynthesis was added (2.3?)
Master Blacksmith Glamours: bought from Tataroga (sp?) in Mor Dhona for 3000 gil.
Master Blacksmith II: 3 HQ balanced darksteel hooks - 2.4?

...or what they said is true and we're just not getting Carboncoats, Carbontwines, and/or Encrypted Tomestones in WoD yet.

I'm pretty confident those allagan catalysts are for the new weapons. I'm pretty sure they said that you'd need drops from CT/ST to make them so it seems pretty likely that this is it.

As for your trade-in idea, I'm not sure I'd be a fan. I personally got sick of trying and failing to win sands/oils and eventually gave up... it's hard to win a lot on an item when all 8 party members are lotting on it (and as you yourself are in example of, frustratingly enough people lot on them even if they don't need them). If you make it possible for people to trade sands/oils for better upgrade items you're ensuring that everyone always lots on them and people who actually want the sands/oils (even if only to unlock the ability to dye them for glamours) have a far less chance of getting them.

I am curious to see what, if anything, SE does with hunts in 2.5. There's nothing in the game that I personally hated more, and since SE really hasn't done anything with them in months I kind of think SE themselves look at them the same way... but it wouldn't shock me to see 2.5 turn them into what they were when they first came out, either. If hunts have any future, this is where SE will show it. Personally, I say good riddance and let them rot.
