I left almost exactly one year ago... shortly after CT was released. Was working on T5 and had everything else cleared. I will be starting over this time with my wife... both on PS4. Anyone recommend a server with a good population? Don't want to be lonely.
Any important changes to the game we should know about? Any major balance changes? All the classes where pretty even when I left.
I switched between Pld, War, and Mnk and will probably play those again. How is ninja? Always one of my favorite classes in Final fantasy.

Classes are pretty well balanced. Only one having real problems in top-end content right now is SMN (mp).
You'll have a ton to unlock, but other than that nothing major that you need to be worried about.
EDIT: Oh and Ninjas are awesome.

Lamia apparently has over 100K characters, but I swear half of them must be RMT. We don't have login queues like some of the other servers do, though.

Save your stuff man, you were up to T5, that is at least a few months of good solid progress. Buy a fantasia potion and a name change if you want, but don't sac your progress. You can always roll a new job to play with your wife, or powerlevel her on your uber class.

I left out that I had all jobs maxed, most crafts maxed. Relics on all jobs... Geared for T5 on Monk and Paladin... all quests at the time completed except for those requiring T5. It looks like I will be buying a fantasia and name changing... thinking of joining a different server though. Just need to find an active FC.
I have been messing around on my old main last two days in Titan HM. Scary thing is that even after a year away I can still do those fights but lots of others can't... still spending two hours on titan was fun.
