So I am actually a Legacy Member but never got past lvl 25 my first time playing ARR.
I am back as of yesterday on the behemoth server lvl 12 so far I am having a blast !!

How long have you been playing, what do you love about FFXIV?

What tips and tricks can you share with a newbie?

What should new things should I be excited about?

I started out as a Gladiator .. Will my class be a good contender when it comes to PVP 1v1? Or is Warrior a better class?

Also what is the difference between starting as a gladiator and pciking up an axe and switching to warrior? Rather than starting as a warrior from the start?

Sorry for all the questions !! I have that new game hype fever since i have yet to get into the game or its lore.

Welcome back!

I've been playing since 1.23, and was in the 2.0 alpha and beta testing.

A few tips: Gil is not terribly important in 2.0 so don't worry about it. You should be able to make enough to survive just from playing the game. That said, you can make gobs of money if you get into crafting, so don't be afraid to explore that as a side career.

Keep yourself geared with something in all slots. As you wear your gear and level in it, you spirit bond it. Once it's completed spirit bonding, you can turn it into materia, which a crafter can slot into other gear to make it better. Materia can make you a lot of money and some folks have made millions of gil at 50 just spirit binding high end gear. There is a low level quest to start materia conversion in the goblin camp in Central Thanalan, north of Black Brush Station. (This was a gobbie camp in 1.0 too.)

Gladiator becomes Paladin now. I think marauder to warrior is better for PVP - actually marauder is a great base class in PVP too. By starting as a gladiator first you can unlock some abilities that will help out your warrior, but I personally think WAR is the more fun of the two jobs and you might consider switching once you've unlocked access to Limsa Lominsa.

~I've been playing since Sunday lol

~My husband has a few higher level jobs so he helps me out a bit. The biggest thing I've seen so far is it takes me forever to get a group without him on his tank job.

What should new things should I be excited about?
~no idea haha

~again, no clue lol. I started as an Arcanist

"What do you love?"
I love/hate the community but I most especially love my FC. Gameplay wise, there's a whole bunch I like and dislike about it but right now I'm pretty obsessed with PvP. Best quality I would say however is the story.

"Tips and Tricks"
Take your time, don't rush things. Gear is so transitory in this game that it takes nothing to catch up gear wise, and the content can wait until you're comfortable to do it, as it will get easier with time and gear. (For the most part)

"New things?"
Golden Saucer is right around the corner! If you're a fan of casual play and trivial distractions, Tetra Master, Chocobo Rasing/Raising and a lot of fun sidegames are arriving with the coming 2.51 patch on the 24th! Also the new expansion Heavensward will be comming this spring with 3 new jobs, even more story, aerial zones and mounts, personal airships, and a whole lot more. It's hard to narrow down any one thing to be excited about and right now's the perfect time to start catching up in game.

"Gladiator a contender in PvP?"
PvP isn't 1v1 ever, if you are you're not where you're supposed to be. Be it Wolve's Den, Slaughter, or Secure, you always are going to be with your team or Guarding something defensively.

So, if you're wanting to play on the defensive, stick with Paladin, it's durable, it has an on Demand stun you can rotate, and you'll out last physical DPS, and help lock down squishy mages. Just remember your objective is to protect your allies and be a harassment to your enemies.

Gladiator vs Warrior? Depends on who's got the better support or cooldowns. Warrior's superior damage does not trump your high defense, but that HP regen they have can be dicey. Both are tanky as all daylights and can be a real pain for your enemies. So it's a matter of tastes.

"Difference in starting Gladiator?"

Minimal. You're going to need to do the level 10 quest in Gladiator to be able to unlock Maurader, and then the level 15 Airship Story quest to get to Laminsa, but that's where the differences end. The main quest line is tied to your character, not your class. You can start Maurader and switch to Gladiator and vice versa at will, but each will be leveled independently.

"Sorry for the questions"

No problem at all! If you have any more just ask, and welcome back!

@Catwho I see so it doesn't effect my story to just go ahead and switch from gladiator to warrio? Also what level would I get access to that town?

Might it be better to restart as a warrior?

Being Level 25, just start doing story quests and you will be riding the airship to Limsa in no time. I think that is the level 15 storyline quest. Then you can unlock and start leveling warrior. No need to start over!

For some reason since im only lvl 12 if i were to switch class i would like to restart.. I dont want to be a weak tank .. I like to deal lots of damage :/ ...

Sorry hyrist I must have skipped over your post. I love how you answered all my questions !! You made me that much more excited about getting home from work to lounge and play FFXIV. I also think i will keep my Gladiator i just love the idea of a shield and sword as well as the armor they wear. But i also love being number one PVP but sounds like Gladiator puts up a fight.

Thank you for providing all that usefull information.

That patch you mentioned will it be bringing chocobo racing? Or is that in the expansion !! Too excited i cant control it.

Em i able to raise my Legendary Chocobo? (Got it for being a legendary member) Or do I need to buy a different type of chocobo for that? Also if anyone else wants to share their thoughts please do !

Don't worry if people want to rush you through cutscenes in dungeons. While some will wait aslong as you ask at the start of the run, some will be butt heads. You can rewatch all scenes in your room :)

Top 3 classes in PvP depend entirely on what you are doing. There's no top one class, though in Slaughter Black Mages are wrecking because they made Cometor (Think single player Limit Break) too easy to stack on one another.

Damage Dealing on Paladin in PVP requires you to equip Strength Accessories, and you're not going to have the Melee or Mage DPS limit breaks, which are heavy hitters. But you can tank through a whole heck of a lot and deal more damage than any mage or Melee expects you too.

Burst damage belongs to the damage classes, but they sacrafice a lot to get that. Melee DPS is fairly fragile and dies fast if focused (unlike tanks) and while an ignored mage is the most deadly thing in PvP, if they have a melee on them they're going to have severe problems getting spells off.

The reason why Black Mages are dominating PvP in Slaughter is that they hide behind the wall of Melee and Tank Classes with the safty of healers, then use Crowd Control spells to sleep people and line up Cometors on top their heads. In every other PvP mode they're not as powerful by a wide margin.

Personally, I like tank the best. I can take a hard hit and shake it off with some heals. I can stun people repeatedly if necessary, I can finish off weakened foes or fight a guy down to the point they feel like they need to flee (then if I'm good I can hold them in place long enough to kill them, but typically they pop sprint to get away.)

My only bane is magic, and only then if I can't reach the foe targeting me. And I still got damage reduction skills to help against that.

It's a good life on the front lines.

The Legacy Chocobo is it's own whistle and only serves as a mount with fancy armor.

No chocobo or mount in the game can be 'raised', though you can train your battle chocobo and color its feathers in a separate system already in the game.

Only racing chocobos can be bred and raised, an that will come out in the 2.51 patch slated February 24th 2015 (in 13 days!)

From my understanding of it, as the Chocobo Raising system is not quite out yet. Your Battle/Company Chocobo is entirely different from your Rasing/Racing one. Your legacy Chocobo is an entirely separate one from that, used only as a mount. (There's also a fat chocobo mount that you for a certain amount of time paid as a subscription.)

And then the Racing/Raising chocobos, you're allowed only one active racer, but when you retire a racer, you can use them for breeding a chocobo.
