Yeah was expected to be June/July, though I got called negative for saying that :x Hopefully this extra "polish" makes the push back worth the wait.

Well until just a few hours ago, the word was a Spring release. So.. July isn't part of Spring.

Still it's not a huge delay (days really) and if it makes the game better then sure why not.

Actually in Famitsu interview a few months back he said "Our definition is a bit different, as many people like to poke fun at." So when he was asked again about the release he was hesitant to say spring so it's definitely been looking like near june/july for a bit, that's taking into consideration the 2nd half of 2.5 was being released this month, so the 2-3 month gap between updates made sense then.:p

You can be right, and still be negative. It's not what you say, but how you say it.

Also, saying "I told you so" is also not a terribly endearing quality.

I'm happy about this. It gives me an extra month or two to try to finish DRG, MNK, and NIN to 50.

This is my thinking, to be honest looking back at XI expansions we was given little to begin with (or salvaged zones) - the larger content came with updates.

This time around though we have actually got a proper expansion coming with a lot of new content. I was very surprised at the amount plus there was the content with the new zones on quests, dungeons etc which we didn't see.

To honest this is the first expansion I have really been excited for in regards to an SE game (after living on XI for far too long).

Still, I am excited and I will be pre-ordering as soon as I can and buying the biggest version I can (CE).

For an old fart like me that's a good thing

In Wyoming, we have 2 seasons. Summer, and winter. Summer is July and August, winter is September - June. What is this Spring you speak of?

Where I live it's WinterSpring.

Winter is October to May, and Summer is June to September.

Spring *may* be 1 week long if we're lucky.

Just a gripe, but I wish SE would make it cheaper for players with multiple platforms to upgrade. My wife and I have both PC and PS4 and that will cost a lot if we have to upgrade both separately.

This would make sense but then they won't get their money reselling the same game to you. (Especially after confirming there's less areas than Vanilla (makes sense, given ost of ARR's stuff came from 1.x) and the same progression format with significantly less inbetween updates (instead of new dungeons + remastered dungeons, it's only 2 new dungeons etcc.))

So..I think SE is happy with the format right now to get your money. ;p

Yeah, it's a different format than back in FFXI "scréw over your customers"-days when the dev team would sell you 10% of the expansion initially and then slowly unlock 90% of the content in the next 1½-2 years to make sure the customers aren't getting too much value for their money. Now that we actually get proper expansions instead of slightly glorified patches it's a small price to pay... unless you're Theonehio that would much prefer to have as little value for the dollar as possible like in the good ol' days.

Note that you only need the collector's edition for one platform and you can just get the regular version for the other, since the collectible in game items are done on a per account basis.

That said, I miss the days when they didn't care how many places you installed FFXI so long as you were paying your monthly dues.

As much as you love to hate on XI, you seem to have forgotten what gaming is like today, but it's understandable since ARR is likely the only game you've played.

I'm also curious about the mac version. I bootcamp, so I wonder if there will be a difference. (Please, not trying to fan flames here).
Gamespot http://www.gamespot.com/articles/ff-xiv-heavensward-expansion-launches-on-june-23-c/1100-6425729/says a new benchmark comes out next month. If it has a Mac version, I'll test both out.

I don't think that's SE doing that so much as Sony. They didn't come right out and say it but it sounded like Sony didn't want a whole bunch of 20GB downloads going out with no money going in.

And before Hio comes back with "Well FFXI blah blah," back then the disc was used to install an expansion on the PS2 and there was no PSN to route traffic through. Now the expansion data has to be available through direct download, and it's huge. Sony wants a piece of that and this is how they've decided to do it. It definitely sucks for people playing on both PC and console, but at least you know about it NOW instead of after you've already had a chance to do it wrong.

129.00 for collectors addition.. WOW.

Wonder if there is a d/l only collectors version for the PS4.

I am having a hard time justifying the cost of this add-on because of two PS4's and a PC..

I still have not heard of anything new in the way of combat/game play that is making me want to dish out the money for this....Instead of getting excited the closer it gets too launch instead I am loosing interest.

If you want the physical collector's edition, it costs $130.

I don't know specifically if there's a digital deluxe edition for the PS4, but I know a PC version exists. You'd only need that to unlock collector's edition in-game stuff on your account. You don't need to buy that multiple times. Your PS4 upgrade could be the standard edition that's $40.

Sorry, it's still an MMORPG. Hasn't changed.

Yes, there will be a download only digital collector's edition for PS3/PS4. It will be available for pre-order at a later time, once Sony has it up on the PSN store.

Once again, you only need a collector's edition once per account - if you use the same account on PS4 and PC, you can get the collector's edition for one and the standard edition for the other and get all the digital goodies for your account since CE rewards are on a per account basis, not a per system basis.

If you use two separate accounts for PS and PS4, and want a collector's edition on both, you'll need the CE for both systems. I'd only bother getting a physical CE once though.

I paid half of what they're asking for the expansion for the base game. That was at ARR release. I'm hoping to find a better deal before it's released. No way in hell I'd pay 130 for the CE.

ARR was an olive branch because of what a disaster 1.0 was. So it was offered at a discounted price.

It's very likely you can find the base expansion for less than 40 (actually I've seen a few already), but I doubt very seriously if you'll find a physical CE for less than 130.

Green man gaming already had Heaven's ward for 30$ and the digital collector's for 40$ I think it was? Sale's over, but I'm sure it'll come along again.

I hate to hate on XI but people completely out of this world like you give me no choice but to point out the flaws of XI time and time again.

FFXI expansions were nothing but glorified patches. Most of the content was missing and was implemented within two-three years. We had areas introduced with little to nothing to do in them. Even most new jobs were simply useless for the longest time (or just forever, like Summoner). This is a fact. Actually if Yoshi-P had followed XI content direction we'd have gotten the Praetorium in 2.5 instead of 2.0 and a tiny stump of Heavensward story in 3.0.

If you could possibly come in terms with the said fact (and all the other sad facts surrounding FFXI) I could also stop ridiculing you for being unable to do so. FFXI did good for its time, which is not saying much. Snap out of it already.

http://www.ffxiah.com/player/Fairy/Hyanmensir

There's no way I could say FFXIV is the better game objectively after having played FFXI for six years, right Theonehio? The only possible answer must be that I have never played (and enjoyed for what it is) FFXI in my life. Yes, that must be it. Smiley: smile

Summoner was not useless. At least, before nerfs. I used to:
Solo a lot.
Play BRD role in merit parties using Carby to grab mobs.
Main heal in any party.
SMN was indispensable in several COP missions.

FFXI had it's problems, but try not to list your opinions as "Fact".
