PS3 ->PS4 upgrade, requires same PSN? :: Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV, FF14)

Hello everyone I got a question about the upgrade an the PSN attachment.

My brother bought FFXIV for the PS3, played it and is currently unsubbed.

He wants to come back and play some while he is on vacation and now owns a PS4.

The question is, does he have to use his old PSN sign in? or can he simply do the online "upgrade" and when it gives you the code to download the game you can then download and use it on another PSN (his wife's is the "main" on the PS4).

Not sure about the answer to this, but he'd better find out soon because the free upgrades end on April 1st.

It has to be the same PSN account, 100% When you register the initial product code, it gets linked to your Square - Enix account, which in turn has to be linked to your PSN account before you can play. This process is irreversible, so it's a case of, use the same PSN account for the upgrade process, or buy a new copy of the game so you can get a new product code, and link it to your new PSN account.

Also, to emphasis Catwho's point, the upgrade process ends 1st April, so whatever decision is made needs to be made very quickly!

Seconded. I was going to update the sticky with information on upgrading from PS3 to PS4(and not just upgrading from SE to CE), but I felt like that post was already too cluttered.

Essentially when you upgrrade, SE removes the PS3 access and registers PS4 access to your MogStation(formerly SquareEnixID). MogStation registration is directly linked to your PSN account so if you plan on using a different PSN login then you'd be better served just purchasing the PS4 version of the game. Just keep in mind that each specific type of version must be registered to an account in order to play that account on the respective console.
