That would have been the wise thing to do. The reason Poetics remain capped and the Encrypted Tomestone added to the weekly quest is so we continue to play. It was just finishing off the 2.5 story which is fine, but you'd think they'd have snuck in some kind of content we could do, and despite popular belief, anyone who's kept up on progression is indeed going to have nothing to do for the next few months. (And no, you will not be farming T10-13 in DF when people can still barely beat T9 through DF WITH 15-20% echo.)

Either way, there may be a 2.56 patch or so that unlocks everything.

When you completely obliterate other MMOs such as FFXI on the content production department you have to add slightly longer breaks before the expansions are released.

I wish I had the powers to teleport you to another dimension where instead of getting 100% of the expansion content after 5 months you'd get 10% after only 2 months and the remaining 90% in the next two years. But, alas, I do not.

Someone should start a private ffxi server that runs the game's patches and updates on the same schedule SE did, lol.

Meh, I'm fine with this being all we get until expansion. I've got plenty to keep me occupied for another month and a half or so. I was planning on taking a break in May for The Witcher 3 anyway, so this works out well for me.

The Steps of Faith trial is epic. A lot of people are going to get stuck, though.

I do wish it dropped something though... i120 weapons, or accessories, or something.

Yeah I'm at fail #8. Doesn't help that I'm currently in New Orleans and I'm using my laptop. My laptop is very good for most of the game, but ground targeting is just fricking impossible without a mouse or controller. The little touch pad on my laptop isn't sensitive enough to register when I need it to and is just a GINORMOUS pain in the *** to use for anything, really. So my ilvl 122 bard is out, leaving my 120 SCH and WHM as my next best jobs. At least healer isn't hard, other than people being out of cure range.

That said, we're slowing figuring it out, I think. DPS on canons. Tanks grabbing adds and taking them to the middle for more canon fire. One healer under belly, the other out front. Do not miss snares. Hit it with the dragon killer. Do not miss. All out DPS once the last tower is breached.

We got him to 10% once today. I'll try again tomorrow.

tl;dr strategy:

Melee DPS - Cannons, LB3 near the end (even if it's needed.)
Tank/s - Adds, as stated, as like Senpai, the boss doesn't notice you nor give a **** about you so he needs no tank.
Ranged DPS (BLM/SMN) - Do their DPS thing and sprint to the Dragon Killer, they can also handle snares if need be.
Ranged DPS (BRD) - Stay on Boss, especially if highly geared.
Healers - Heal/DPS/Snares.

With tanks you can have one dedicated to Dragonkiller duty as well, but you got the general idea, it's just much easier to designate certain people to the mechanics then using LB3 (melee) on vishap near the end. Ideally, you want to go for the "75/45/15%" progress through the barriers, the lower the better but those are generally where you want to push and be around 5-10% near the end so the LB3/LB (depending on situation) can kill it off.

When my group killed it (surprisingly easy with even a little bit of planning and coordination) we did the following:

Our setup was: NIN (me), DRG, MNK, BRD, WHM, SCH, WAR, WAR

The DRG and MNK were DF randoms.

The main tank picked up and held adds near the boss' front. The SCH and MNK were assigned to cannons. The DRG and I were on the boss full time (I know this sounds crazy, but you actually do plenty of damage to him and you're pretty safe under there). The BRD helped with adds and dps'd the boss at all other times, not to mention singing paeon. The off-tank was assigned the towers but would only fire the missile when told to since he couldn't see the tethers; I'm not actually sure what he was doing the rest of the time, I had a dragon on top of me.

We killed him before reaching the last tower.

Thought it was not too bad at all...

I have to say it is nice to see this being something different than a primal fight.. I dont see this as something you will want to do many times over once you beat it, but anyway it is something different than a normal primal/trial and enjoyed trying to beat. This was cool...

The fight was very very reminiscent of 1.0 HNM fights, only without the tanking. It's why I liked it, if only they snuck in maiming mechanics based on your combos and it would have been the perfect fight.

I've got towers down to a science now. It's other people who keep ******** up the canons and snares :(

5% in this last DF group when all three of my Dragonkillers hit.

Is it just me, or are the NPCs basically worthless in this fight? They come out, and die in 10 seconds flat. They might as well not even be there. No wonder Ishgard is losing the war.

We won tonight. Switched strategies and had me, as tank, on the tower, so a third DPS could wreck dragon. That worked out nicely. Was dead before 4th ward fell.
