With the death knell of XI sounding, I am looking at a possible return to XIV. I'm just curious what your experiences with the various XIV wikis is. I googled FFXIV wiki and there are several. Any preferences?

I think I've typically wound up using Gamer Escape's wiki, though I've also used some guides over at consolegameswiki as well. For quick item lookup, I usually use xivdb.com.

I found that I rely on wikis far less with XIV than I did with XI. Unlike XI, quests and missions are detailed very well within the game in XIV, and that's mostly the information I used to look up in XI's wiki. I think the main thing I still use the wikis and xivdb for is to check what NPCs sell crafting mats.

Depends on what you're looking for. The game normally is confined to an area, e.g quest wise a lot are "talk to npc a, b, finish quest..get massive rewards. By the way, the two npcs are next to each other." so you won't really need to consult wiki that much (game really is pretty simplified) so if you're going for what drop what, consolegames is a good wiki, XIVDB sometimes. Looking for who sells what etc, even SE's database site is fine.

You won't need a wiki for this game unless it's for very specific things unlike XI where there's a lot more to it and like in most MMOs, if you skip dialog you won't know what to do because between XI and XIV, skippin dialog in XIV will still visually show you where to go, whereas in XI you will miss that information.

The most useful thing a wiki can do in this game is help you plan.

For instance if you're looking for a particular piece of loot, a wiki might direct you to the appropriate boss (SE's database does a decent job of this too). If you want to work on your relic, a wiki can help you figure out what steps you aren't up to yet so you can plan ahead a little.

Otherwise Hio's pretty much right. XIV isn't anywhere near as obtuse as FFXI in terms of figuring out what a quest wants from you. It pretty much tells you exactly what to do and where to go do it (usually).

Thanks for the replies guys. The main reason I asked isn't for quest or mission info, it's more in reference to learning about class and job abilities and their interactions. I've been trying to read up on Rogue/Ninja and it's been hard to find information. The only thread I get searching these forums is primarily a discussion/argument about internet connections and lag http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=152&mid=1414729009193984121&h=50&p=3#105.

It contains almost no information on ability combinations. And when I read the wiki on GamerEscape Wiki on Ninja it just gives basic descriptions about the abilities, but not their interactions. For instance, apparently, NIN can silence or stun a mob, but I have no idea which ability or combination of abilities creates this effect. I am more than happy to research the job, just not having much luck finding detailed info. Maybe I just suck at searching, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be most appreciative!

reddit might be a better place to search for information like that.

There are guides out there that provide in-depth advice about rotations and skill interactions, but I can go ahead and just answer this one for you:

The skill you're looking for is Jugulate. Jugulate by itself is a silence, but when paired with Kiss of the Wasp (after you get the enhanced version) it becomes a stun instead.
