Weekly Goals and Accomplishments 4/3 - 4/9Follow

Realized I forgot to post this this morning. I'm currently at Pop Culture Association's yearly conference. I just listened to someone using Scumbag Steve and Good Guy Greg as examples of dual identifications of modern white masculinity. I love this conference.

What do you hope to do for the next week?

- DRG to 50, let's do it
- Easter event
- Talk to all the NPCs I can to see who has changed dialog now

Honestly, after finishing the final cutscenes, I can see why SE made the decision to let us play with Gold Saucer for a few weeks before releasing 2.55. Everyone on Tumblr is currently too depressed to do the Easter event.

Yeah, after catching up on cutscenes, I think my goal may be to take a break from FFXIV to let my nerves cool after all of that.

I've got Type Zero and the FFXV Demo to go through now after completing Axiom Verge (Hey, Metroidvania fans, this is a must buy get it!) And honestly... it's going to be really hard to level Alts and get them through that story. For now, taking it easy.

I decided I didn't really want to have to do story mode again on a new character, so I've changed class on my character on Odin. If I get to cap and manage to see story before xpack..cool. If i'm not able to get groups, ill think about xfering him to a NA realm. I just have a way better connection to "EU"s realms, due to their off time.

So yea. Level pugilist again. I managed to do 1-8 in about 30min last night before bed.

I also really need to get a fell for this wacom board I bought. I want to draw more again.

I finished up the post moogle quests and got my hat and title. Then I started on the Easter event. Since you have to wait for the FATE to pop, I took the time to farm some Alex. I managed to get four out of six FATEs to drop, which I was shocked by. That, plus a couple maps, and some hunts, I've capped Crit (with only two breaks) and have five more Det to go. I'm also slowly closing in on having the 99 HQ Antumbrals I need to get my Lucis pick. I've had the pearls and cloth for over a month now, but those damn HQs are few and far between some days. I'm hoping to finish both this weekend and then start on the end of the storyline.

1. After I finish capping this week's poetics I'll be at 800. After next week I'll be at 1250. Then on the 14th I'll get 50 and my 1300, and use my saved tomestone and twine to purchase the 130 weapon for black mage. Then the week of the 21st I'll build to 750, and by 4/28 I'll have the black mage coat (and upgraded to 130).

2. On Tuesday, do tower quest for a twine. All tower quests for the next month or so will go to twine.

3. Keep playing Tataru in cards until I can get Vaan and Lightning cards. The random aspect is pretty fun, although the game cheats big time. My favorite one is probably reverse. I will 100% with that one (for obvious reasons).

4. Just figured out on reddit that I can dye my Strife *coughDarylDixoncough* armor pieces. Going to fool around with different shades of dark blue and brown.

Finished up my scroll for my Gae Bolg (finally). 31 Det, 44 Crit. Only three breaks, a little over a million lost. It could have been worse. Now to go farm lights, which I hope won't take me six more months...

As a side note, the Magitek Armor mount playing Terra's Theme when you ride it is probably the best part of this update.

Leveled Pugilist to 18 I think, started Rogue. Level 6 or so. Easter got in the way.

Getting a little better with the wacom tablet. Painting is fun. 0 clean up, all the colors a guy could want.

I had an unexpected burst of motivation and finished TWO warrior books yesterday. Done! Done done.

On to alexandrites. It's my turn to beg for help with maps every day for the next two months.

Had a productive weekend!

After beating Turn 9 on Thursday, on Sunday I finished my Zeta, Steps of Faith and the "Before the Fall" storyline.

I'm 650 poetics away from my bard's i130 weapon. Going to work toward that and focus on WoD gear, and I'm also going to start learning t10.

Feels good though, the bulk of my grinding is over for a few months!

If you're i90 or better you should be able to solo them with a chocobo. With the increased drop rate, farming FATEs out by Summerford is a pretty good way to get them. That's how I got the last seven that I needed this weekend.
#12 Apr 06 2015 at 1:54 PM Rating: Excellent
Catwho, if you can catch me on at the right time, I'll be glad to help. I soloed all my maps on WHM with the chocobo. I usually start him in Defender mode until he grabs hate on the first mob, then switch to Free Stance so he throws in some healing too. The exception of course would be the Bomb, where he's in Healer stance so he doesn't accidentally heal the mob. It gets a LOT easier at about i110.

Verdha finally, on the fourth attempt, got that last meld for Crit+ on the MNK relic. She still had one Det+ on the market board to pay for future breakages on the Crit, and so pulled that off and melded it too. Finally tally will be capped Crit+, Acc+5, and the rest Det+. Just need two Alex now to finish it. Been waiting to get that done before I start the new storyline, which I'll try to focus on this week. Grabbing lots of poetics is a goal too, since she has an Encrypted Tomestone and Carbontwine ready to go for the WHM weapon.

Waenlona suffered through THREE Aurum Vales last night. First time for Maelstrom rank-up. Then while queuing for Garuda, forgot to uncheck Aurum Vale and so ended up in it again -- I don't believe in quitting duties, so stuck it out to the end. And then got Aurum Vale AGAIN in low level roulette. The good news for that though is that she's about halfway to SCH50 now, should easily be able to pull that off this week. Then it'll be levelling WHM from 46 to 50 to catch up, and then relax and potter around with storyline, fishing, crafting, and THM to BLM for a few weeks probably, as well as go through the SMN storyline to complete her DoM training.

But the most important thing of all will be getting Waen to 50 to unlock glamors because she looks TERRIBLE in pretty much all normal gear and looks totally AWESOME in Coliseum. Her favorite color used to be yellow, but she's discovered that Black Is The New Yellow and goes great with her green complexion, eyes, and hair.

Thanks for the offer! My warrior is ilvl 107 - it's a toy job that was never intended for serious endgame (that's what SCH and BRD are for) so it's last on the gear list for upgrades, generally. I need to spam ST a bunch and get some sands to upgrade a handful more pieces for 110. I'll also greed lot All The Things from WoD, although the odds of getting them are low.
#14 Apr 06 2015 at 2:50 PM Rating: Excellent
Remember you can do your Alex maps on any job you like, not just the one that needs it. I did the maps on WHM, but used all the Alex on MNK. Your SCH and BRD are very well geared and should be able to solo the maps with your chocobo, I would think. I've heard SCH is the easiest job to solo Alex on; I went with WHM because I was a lot more familiar with it. But my offer still stands, of course! Smiley: smile

SCH, SMN, WAR all very good to solo maps with chocobo. Only two that give you trouble are the cyclops (+ his thousands of plant minions) and the rock golem (with his host of bombs).

Thankfully everyone in Swarm is totally cool with "yeah we'll help with maps." 3/75 alex so far.

I heard from someone that you should avoid infusing any materia until you have all 75 alexandrite ready to go, and use that time to start stockpiling materia. I'm leaning toward an accuracy and determination build for my axe (since Parry is apparently a joke stat and Crit Hit seems kind of silly for a tank.) Any thoughts on that?

K... About halfway to capping poetics. I'll be at 1250 by Monday. But expert roulette for a few more days should take care of that. Got my twine (makes 2 twines in stock + tomestone). Ready for blm 130 weapon on tuesday. Still a major gap between "people not even close to being ready for final coil" and "people who have beat final coil 75 times" so I'm having some trouble on Lamia finding good groups to run with. Probably would help if I was on more...

Apparently I did well in the card tournament. I can beat this one NPC in the saucer every time and get 88 per win, which should have given me 3080, but I battled Elmer for a 5/10 for the first 10 battles (and he CHEATS) so I had around 2800 without cheating and buying my wins like everyone in the top 20. Anyway, got the 10k on cactpot that day plus 15k more for my decent score, and 3 packs of platinum. And my very last win netted me the 30 tournament wins so I picked up the Shantotto card. Smiley: grin My platinum pulls were disappointing. I pulled, you guess it, 3 Ultima Weapon cards in a row Smiley: oyvey. Now I'm at 65k, I think I want to save for something, I just don't know what.

Beat Tataru 100+ times now. 1/3 of the way to Vaan and no Lightning in sight.

The answer is best explained by this article:

http://www.ffxivguild.com/ffxiv-tanking-parry-vs-dps-stats/

It depends on what you do. MT all the time, you need parry. OT, you need DPS. Parry is still better than crit / ss for tanks. Go for the two stat and you are pumping 25-30 10-15 million gil into your relic. Go for the three stat and you might pump 3-5 million in.

I went Det / Acc / Parry on my paladin, fyi, det and acc the two main stats, and parry my lesser third stat. At that point I figured that 1 point of det for a 500k Det IV was not worth more than 1 point of Parry for 100 gil.

That's a good point. I'm still going to try to spend some quality time spirit bonding while I rack up materia.

Well, either your server has a stupidly inflated economy, or you're bad at math. On Ultros, Savage Might IVs go for 400-450k, and Savage Aim IVs go for 300-350k. Unless for some ridiculous reason your aren't using the lower tier matiera until you're forced into the IVs, you won't get even close to 25 million. All told, I spent just over 6 million on mine and I maxed out DET and CRIT. Granted, I did spend some time SBing out at the Fount, but that only saved me a couple million. If I had bought them all, it still would have been under 10.

You actually can't do this, mind you. However far in a stat you decide to go, you do still have to use the materia in order, I > II > III > IV, with IVs only being needed if you take the stat all the way. Before then, you don't even have the option of using IVs.

Might IV goes for 500k - 600k currently on Lamia. The crit IV goes for 400-450k. I recall working out the numbers back when I was getting my first one and I worked out 25 million, but granted the materia costs were much higher then (in the millions) and I didn't factor that in to my new estimates. So 10-15 million maybe with today's prices, assuming no spiritbonding, and expecting that about 2 million will go to RNG pops right there at the end. Doesn't matter. Its still way to much gil for what is the equivalent of less than a point of weapon damage.

And with the week over, it's a mixed result. Real-life events got in the way of play time, but even so a certain amount was achieved:

Of the two characters, Verdha made the most out of the week, with Sphairai Novus finished (5 Acc instead of the last 5 Det, SM-IV going for 700k+ regularly now), and some more gear upgrades pushing her to iLvl 122. Ran through all the new storyline except Steps of Faith; hit that last night and had one good group that repeatedly only just failed -- we had recurring issues with only one snare deploying -- and then two bad groups who either never got off the ground or were quit/fail. I don't think it's going to be too hard to get through this in DF, optimistic about finishing the storyline tonight or Monday. Still need to finish the Chocobo challenge log, so will probably just spiritbond until the 100 mobs are dead, to rebuild gil after the Alex melds. She now has two MNK gear items that need Armorer to repair, so she has to push on the crafting soon, just probably not this week.

Waenlona had her midweek regular day interrupted by Real Life, so hasn't achieved anything since the weekend. Should be trivial to get SCH50 tomorrow, though, and push either WHM up towards 50 or THM up to 30. Still figuring out how to do ARC to 15 in character for unlocking BLM, but I think I can handle it. Need to take up Fishing again soon too, as well as push crafting up, but since she'll be close to done with all DoM classes (and won't be picking up any DoW) before too long that can wait. But GLAMORS is the most important thing to unlock. Smiley: grin

I did hit 50 DRG! And I'm on track to get my encrypted weapon next week on bard, which is pretty exciting.

PLD to 37, WAR to 30.

Got my BLM poetics weapon bought and upgraded this week. Next is accessories. It's silly having this weapon and being like i114 on that job.

Built a new computer this week. i5-4690K, 16 GB RAM (2133), GTX 970. 60 fps in Mor Dhona and like 150 everywhere else is pretty sexy.
