Well, with Iceheart she is known to be frigid, but with perhaps the right approach, agreeing with her political stances, not interfering with her ambitions, and showing an open and peace-loving demeanor, you might be able to wine and dine your way into tapping that...

Oh wait...

Wrong person. Shiva? No she's strictly Dracosexual.

Why not? The story tells us that with enough belief and crystals you can summon ANYTHING as a primal. The only difference between Shiva and the others is how many times they've been summoned and the vessel used.

To my understanding Arcanist literally do math to will Carbuncle into existence and same for it's branching classes. However they aren't using math to will the creatures into existence. They are tapping into a specific energy and yanking a piece of it out.

Again this is to my understanding. I did all my arcanist and most of the SCH SMN quests a year and a half ago when I only played for a month.

One thing that just jumped out at me though... open-world monsters in HW areas are much stronger than ARR areas. Yoshi-P says fighting two open-world mobs of equal level in HW could easily kill you. This could make certain quests more interesting, and hopefully this will restore that feeling of the open world being more dangerous.

I'm only really for this if they also make them actually rewarding to fight.

If they're still going to be worth 100-150 exp and maybe an animal skin or something, everyone will just do the same thing they already do with aggro, and ditch it.

I like the upcoming bard stance that increases DPS while standing still. Should make the job more challenging and effective.

orrrrrr you could just play blm because that's basically what blm is

Yeah I think the biggest problem I have with the bard changes is that it just feels like it makes it play more like other classes. To me variety is a good thing, but I dunno.

As for the SMN and WoW Warlock references I can see the similarities, but tbh I think Warlock is just so much more well made that if it was actually really true SMN would be much better off. Warlock is in terms of class design just better, more complex and fun, not to mention more visually impressive despite the disadvantage of graphics/general artstyle which I think XIV does nicer in other parts of the game. I do think SE will make SMN more interesting, in several ways, but I think the biggest reason I am dissapointed (even though I don't actually play it myself) is that SMN is something quite iconic for FF to me and for the most part they are really impressive so I kind of expect more from SE when it comes to a "class" like that. It is one thing if they decide to go a different route than say WoW and that some people prefer one over the other, but in this case I just feel they went for something similar and got completely outdone, in which case I migth have preferred they went down a different road myself.

I think most people who don't like summoner right now are the one's in the same boat with you. They see summons as a colossal entity rather than a fairy type creature that summons are now.

I think SE should just make all the DPS jobs have two stances: one for melee-range damage, and one for insta-cast mobile damage. And have lots of abilities with cool animations, but everything does max DPS regardless of positioning. If I were an alien being reading the official forums, and I were trying to figure out what people wanted (based on all the negative feedback about these job abilities), that's the conclusion I'd come to.

I don't understand the backlash against bard. Do other stances have such a long cool down? I know cleric stance has a impossibly short cool down. That if it dropped by me moving. By the time I re-positioned myself it would be up again. It's almost like taking a position to shoot more accurately in real life after changing spots with a bow. It makes sense and it only takes a moment and it makes a world of difference.

What they need to do is add something like NM's with rare item drops but make the drop rate super low.

Even if a lot of people are beating on it could have a chance of getting the item.

Least it would offer something to do while you already done a few things and just sitting around bored out your mind.

Wanderer's Minuet doesn't fall off when you move but it does turn off your auto attacks and add cast times to things. So the idea is that you kill it when you have to go somewhere and then re-sing it when you're someplace you can stand still for a while.

The original thinking that it fell off when moving was a translation error.

The thing is, with Summoner, all a summoner has to do, lore wise, is be in presence of a defeated primal (as that aether returns to the lifestream (literally) and tapping into even a slight bit of it allows you to summon an egi. So despite Shiva and Ramuh's special nature, they're still primals that goes to and from the lifestream and thus egis can be created.

This is Yoshida's plan from the start. He doesn't want to create a situation where you'd prefer x over y job for content (even though it happens now, especially in actual content that matters) so he basically wants to make things "universal."

...Well it doesn't take much to understand. Ninja now has positionals in 3.0 - You hate positional based skill execution for whatever reason = you will hate the Ninja changes. This is why there aren't that many monks..it's not a hard job but you HAVE to dance around the monster to play it efficiently, which is a turn off. Same with Dragoon, before they removed some positional requirements. Most people liked Ninja because it was a brainless DPS class to play for the most part in comparison to the others.

There are plenty of stretches fights where the bard can stay planted assuming that others do their jobs properly. For example, the add phase in t10... if tanks align the ads correctly, then a bard could pretty much use this ability and blast away for the duration of the phase.

I tend to take this battle (t10) a step farther. I run a lot (while focusing the target for autoattacks, but still moving).

First adds I dot all four, drop flame arrow on the first two, and run to the second two while the other three dps finish off the first. I DPS and re-dot the second adds while standing behind them as baiting the tail swipe, strafing back and forth to dodge. Helps the healers a lot since the tail swipe is an attack they dont have to heal for, which helps them hit preys. And dotting everything deals a ton of damage.

Second set of adds, I use my usual straight shot into buffs and dots combo, heavy striking and bloodletting the A side sister then brother (which usually have a mage lb on them), then I drop dots and flame arrow on the second set of adds, then turn to the third set, dot those, turn back and bait the tail swipe on the second set.

On T11 I've got the cube on focus target while I'm hitting the sphere, and act as the fulcrum when needed, dotting the cube as necessary.

Imo, bards who can deal more damage by standing still are really just black mages. They gave us black mage mode.

I hate universal. It is created to keep down time from happening and make the game main stream. I would rather have completely unique classes with some solo content during downtime than be funneled through a everything is the same window just because it is faster to group.

Moving or standing still is part of what makes skilled play skill full and dynamic. With no movement it is just whack a mole. I dislike that not many rpg developers can come up with something besides set rotations, which is just whack a mole with more moles.

I wouldn't go as far as to say brainless. But most tend to play whatever is emo powered with the littlest effort.

Unique is cool and all, but most people would probably rather be able to play the jobs they actually enjoy all the time. Being turned away from content or being forced to switch to a different job because it's "better" is no one's idea of fun.

I am included in that most people, which Is why I asked for content to "Do" during downtime or playing the job I want to all the time. Kind of how duty finder should work. You should be able to queue up for whatever regardless of job and craft, pvp, whatever. It is a downright travesty that content or progression must be "dumbed down" versus allowing people to play how they want, when they want.

One of the things Hio and I agree on is the fundamental flaw of the battle system, which is how fights unfold based on scripts as opposed to the actions of the players. It bothers me that there's really no such thing as "strategy" in ARR. Every fight is won the same way, as long as you have the same number of tanks, healers and DPS. By comparison, in FFXI, the way you'd win a fight might be completely different if you had two blms, or two rdms, or a summoner, or a thief, or a nin tank vs. a pld tank, etc.

In FFXI, I saw nothing wrong with forcing players to level up different jobs to be more optimal for different content... that seemed to be a reasonable price for being in a "living" game. But I understand that others take their MMOs less seriously, and they want to just be able to plop down and play without giving it much thought. It's just a shame that there can't be some kind of middle ground.
