Alexander Battle Music LyricsFollow

Kind of surprised nobody has made a thread yet about the awesomeness of the Alexander OST... so here it is!

Found this on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/3chagf/alexander_ost_lyrics_thread/

It's lyrics to the Floor 1 battle music, which can be heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyaODd2hPzU

(Intro)

Seeking the piece of reason,
Shaping a peaceless season,
Reason to keep believing,
Waking the beast who's sleeping.

(Instrumental)

(Verse 1)

I call this destiny,
Or caught in a trance,
And I march inside a kind of dream
No sign in advance. You see?
This motor coil we serve is taut like a spring,
Step back, two step, two step,
Two step, one two three(yeah!)

(Instrumental)

Our world's a fantasy no more than a test,
Ever feeding off the fallacy,
Creating this mess
(Deep down) inside this bleak machine,
With all of the rest
Break free, to praise, to praise electricity!

(Break)

Time turning up the volume,
Time turning on us always,
No time enough to wallow,
For turning back to where we began.

(Chorus)

Trying to set those tested,
fragments in one direction.
Celestial noise detected,
but maybe I'm unsuspected.
Static to give; to reason.
Turning to me for defense,
Transmissions begun, completed:
Setup to breach; to reset.

(Verse 2)

It was the destiny alone in a trance,
No escaping from this waking dream,
No hope for the best. (You see?)
The motor coil we serve is naught but a spring.
Unwind, too slow, too quick, too much to believe!

(Instrumental)

Your world's a fantasy you failed to test
Ever forging all new fallacies creating a mess
(Direct) into this bleak machine with all of the rest
Dizzy, dying, dying! Electricity!

(Break)

Falling back right into the system,
Falling back on all empty ears,
When falling back right out of the system
Means falling back right into disgrace
Yes, falling back right in with the system,
Is slipping, falling back to the end,
When falling back is better and simple,
(We're) falling back into pieces again!

(Chorus)

Sounds to be in rhythm
Memory wiped and beaten
Narrowly beat, defeated
Radicals flowing freer
Energy slowly seepin'
Suspending all disbelief in
Synergy with our being,
Synapses fire and breathin'.

(repeat)

I often have a hard time making out the lyrics in music like this, so I got a big kick out of following along while listening to the YouTube video.

I already liked this battle music (a lot), but it's even better with the lyrics. Seriously, big kudos to whoever at SE green-lighted this direction for the music.

Yeah I was working on isolating the lyrics from the music so I can figure it out lol, I can't fully pay attention to it while..well, yeah in battle. The final theme I'm working on figuring out as well.

I remember thinking last night while raiding with my static that I wish I could easily toggle music on and off without having to go into the options to do it.

The Alexander music (especially the boss music) is so good... but the Idyllshire music is so boring.

I will say that this song is much longer than I thought it was and it's cool to be able to follow along with it.

I agree, Idyleshire music is boring. The library music is also kind of strange.

Yeah, as someone composing music for her own game project, I actually..seen what they were going for with the Library music. It's a bit of a large leap from the norm, but it's extremely fitting when you break it down piece by piece.

I personally like the Burden music more than the regular Alexander boss theme, but all 3 themes were pretty nice.

Towards the end it reminds me of something I would expect to hear in a Persona game.

edit - That's a very good thing.

Library music is not something I enjoy at all.

Most of the other music is pretty good but there are about 6 that stand out for me:
Azys Lla
Flying Mount
Dungeon Boss
Main Theme
Rescue Mission
Thordan
Aery
Fractal - My favourite followed closely by Alex
Holy See

The above ones I enjoy every time they come on. For me to enjoy more than two songs for an expansion pack is an achievement, same for me to really enjoy more than 5 for any new game.

Library though... I hate it.. :)

I love the Library. It's actually the kind of music you'd expect to hear in a bookstore - almost elevator music. It's such a nice change up.

I think it's because the library itself didn't have anything really bad happen to it directly, it just got abandoned and all those magical books started getting restless.

what the **** was printed on Page 64 that caused every single copy of that book to sprout a demon, though?

Don't know.. but apparently every page in the library is page 64, including every page in the Demon Book boss... all of those are page 64 too.

I can only assume that 64 is some kind of cursed number. Maybe it has to do with Square and Nintendo falling out of love with each other when the N64 was released?

That's as good a theory as any.

Square: BUT YOU SAID YOU WERE CONSIDERING CDs!!!!
Nintendo: We like our cartridges.
Square: BUT
Nintendo: Our fans like cartridges too.
Square: We cannot fit the kind of games we want to make onto ROM chips any more! GET WITH THE TIMES NINTENDO
Nintendo: We are standing by our decision. (Let's not talk about the Sony engineer that was developing our CD platform that nearly got fired and that's why we cancelled it.)
Square: UGH. FINE. Sony, hey wassup, Nintendo said something about an engineer of yours that made a CD based game storage medium thingy?
Sony: Uh yeah. We almost fired him. Until we found out how awesome that was and now we're going to make our own gaming platform with it. SUCK IT NINTENDO ITS ALL OURS NOW
Square: SWEET. So we've been doing early planning on our new game, FFVII, and it's going to take up like 2 gigabytes of data at this rate....

(The whole mess was even more complicated than that, with both Sega and Phillips also involved and some kind of awful contract with Nintendo that made everyone angry enough to take their toys and go home, but that's more or less what happened with Square, Nintendo, and Sony.)

I like the lyrics, but hate the music. The music in Coil felt appropriate, and its boss theme, although repetitive, still felt appropriate for a boss fight. Here it just seems like some weird techno rave rather than a serious fight and it doesn't feel epic or appropriate at all.

I get why they did it that way (Titan, rock, etc), but I still don't like it. It's exactly the same opinion that I have about the Library's theme.

I was listening to this today and this probably isn't even up for discussion but really good music in an MMO makes a BIG difference. It might be one of many reasons I struggled to like WoW. Pulled out my XI music and popped in The Federation of Windurst OST. This song will forever make me think of little Tarutaru running around.

Personally, I hate the Alexander music. It feels like something that would be played at rave attended by nothing but lonely hipsters, too afraid to talk to each other.

Considering they have 980 variations of the 'main theme' for heavensward, I was hoping alexander would use a variation of it akin to how Coil used variations of 1.0's main theme. But the raid itself is nothing spectacular like coil was design wise, so guess it wouldn't have fit. Current songs are ok, but it grates on you when you're throwing your face against the wall in A4s lol.

The variations are called a "leitmotif" and it's an operatic musical technique. Most Final Fantasy games have used it, but I think the only one prior to use it so extensively was FF Tactics.

I thought Uematsu only did the main theme and Souken remains primary sound director?

He is, since he did it for Answers for Coil and various events figured he mighta for Alexander since it's already been done for 3 dungeons and a few field areas.

The Alex music is just so odd to me. Not used to this from FF.

It's unusual, but I didn't find it to be at all out of place in a setting like Alexander.

Well.... that happened.

Actually this makes MORE sense than the A1-A3 music does. But now I'm wondering where the goblin heavy metal band is that's playing it.

Reraise the metal!~

Thinking it over, the soundtrack to this game really just blows me away with how many quality tracks it produces.

Page 64 is a monster from FF V
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Page_64

It's a retro throw back, long before N64 was even an idea.

I know, but the reason I didn't go with that correlation is because FF5 also has other page numbers as monsters in it, not just 64.
