Try updating sound drivers?

If it were a Win10 problem by itself, then other people should surely have the same problems. Did you go into the game's settings and re-verify what device the game is attempting to output the sound to? Did you try selecting the specific sound device instead of selecting "auto" or "auto-detect"?

I can't remember XIV's config screen exactly, but many modern games allow you to specify where to route the sound to, and most of these will allow you to select the sound system specifically, or have the game auto-detect the default sound device.

Try it if XIV's config allows.

If not, try going into control panel, and try changing it to "none" and then change it back to the right one and try the game again.

EDIT: Also, run dxdiag to make sure there's nothing wrong there.

well i tried something based on a Reddit post... i always play ffxiv in fullscreen (never in windowed or border-less windowed), I quit the game changed my settings to windowed then started ffxiv launcher back up again and the game and sound work fine in windowed mode but as soon as i changed the setting back to fullscreen the sound disappears and it stays gone even if i switch it back to windowed while in game... the only way to fix it is while its in windowed (with no sound) exit the game and the launcher and restart it while its set to windowed mode..... so now the question then becomes, how do I get the sound to work in fullscreen?

Im sure most ppl havent had this problem because I know for a fact that most ppl dont play ffxiv (or any other pc game) in fullscreen mode

Yeah I play in Windowed (No Border) in one monitor and then do my other stuff in the other monitor. Never had this particular issue.

I've had trouble with DX11 and FFXIV, in both Win 8 and 10. AMD has new drivers for my R270 and it helped a little.

I had an issue with the DX11 client on Windows 7 where it would f'ing explode randomly.. sometimes causing a BSOD, sometimes just crashing the game.

Got tired of that. Switched back to DX9, had a brief sad over the lack of proper reflections on surfaces, and haven't had a problem since.

Just play it in Borderless Window, then?

You can't really visually tell the difference between Borderless Window and Fullscreen TBH, or at least I can't, other than the fact that something else trying to take focus off the game doesn't minimize it, and you can actually look up stuff in browsers, etc without minimizing the game (which takes forever to restore it and can sometimes cause crashes).

I love Borderless Window mode. I swear by it.

All the awesome of Fullscreen + All the awesome of Windowed Mode all in one.

The only problem I have had with windows 10 is an inability to save screenshots. This is related to a documented problem where W10 locks folders in read-only mode. That is causing many W10 users problems.

Huh? I don't have that problem. But I also don't save screenshots on my OS drive. Try changing the directory where your screenshots are saved and see if that helps.

I have a non XIV related issue with Windows 10 - constant blue screens of death. I thought I had them licked when it happened again yesterday. Maybe I just have a bad stick of RAM -_- but there was a known problem with Nvidia VRAM having a bad leak, too.

Erm..I have at least 90 screenshots through the preview - now on Windows 10. That lock was an account issue more than anything. The only windows 10 problem I have is not wanting to upgrade to Win10 GPU drivers >.> so I get occasional hangups.

Well, moving the screenshots off my OS drive fixed that problem. Still one thing I don't like is the window key no longer minimizes the game. AltTab and WIN Tab works, barely. Annoying when you need to look something up. Still, I am experiencing no gameplay issues

I consider the fact that the Windows key doesn't minimize the game a positive. But I play on dual monitors and I'm in borderless Windowed mode anyway. Windows key just brings up the Start menu and Task Bar, and I can start typing the name of what I need, smack enter, and boom there it is. I like it.

Hmm with PS4 I can't use ACT and have a bit poorer graphics, but consistent stability, never crashing.
With Windows 10 I can run ACT and the game looks amazing, but I have the potential to be affected by a ton of little individual computer related issues.

I absolutely hate little individual computer specific odd little buggy problems. Feeling better about my choice to buy a console.

I've been running it for a month now and have had absolutely no issues. All my gaming issues were purely DX11 related and present in Windows 7.
