Going to want some Windows and a storage drive to go with that (maybe an optical drive depending on how you take your Windows), but it looks pretty decent.

You should easily be able to max your settings with a machine like that. Your fps MIGHT go as low as 30 in very crowded areas. Or it might not.

If that hard drive has had more than 3 years of usage, I'd replace it. And if you're happy with Windows 8, just get Windows 10.

Windows 10 is just a slightly less annoying version of Windows 8. So agreed, go ahead and upgrade.

As long as we're talking about the Windows 10 upgrade...

I've been wanting to install a new SSD for awhile now and reinstall my OS onto that drive... if I were to install a new SSD, and then upgrade to Windows 10, could I just set the upgrade/install to happen on that new drive, which would make the process much simpler on my end? Or can I only upgrade on the drive where my OS currently lives?

You'd have to do a clean install of 10 to get it on a new drive, I believe.

Is that option available with the free upgrade? I haven't done it yet.

I doubt it..at least no other Windows upgrade works like that.

If you get the Windows Media Creation tool, it will give you all the options. Personally I'd recommend just doing a fresh install of everything, as discouraging as that might be. I tried it the other way before, didn't turn out so well.

And there's almost no reason to not upgrade now, they added their information gathering to windows 7 and 8 in a recent update. So you have to turn it off regardless which version you're running.

I say 7 is still more stable than 8.1 or 10. I don't think there's a real reason to upgrade until games that run on DX12 start coming out, personally.

Or if you're like me and do enough tech support that you better get familiar with an OS fast.
