But the current mount speed is too slow to do it justice, so they scrapped it as a mount. That can only mean...

GOLD SAUCER MOTORCYCLE MINI-GAME YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

Yeah, I don't know why they couldn't bump up the ground mount speed a bit, even if they still kept it slower than flying speed.

I know in WoW when your mount is going above a certain speed, the game literally cannot keep up with you and things will actually start popping in behind you as you move. In the current content, my flying mount accelerates me to 445% of walking speed. This is not only too fast, it was too fast about 100% ago. So when I'm flying, the only thing I can see in front of me is the environment. If I want a gathering node or a mob or something that has to spawn in as a separate object, I have to slow the F down.

Might something similar be happening here? SE knows there's a speed limit to their client spawning things in and they're deliberately keeping you below it?

I think some kind of motorcycle minigame would be awesome... especially if you could buy and customize your own motorcycle. :)

Or, make no-holds-barred motorcycle races a new form of PvP! Use slightly reskinned existing maps to give us cross-country courses, and give us some abilities on our motorcycles to knock off or slow down other players... and we can use points from our victories to trick out our rides. It would be like FFXIV meets Mad Max!

Maybe for hella weak comps or PS3s, yeah.

I know I'm nowhere near that level of beating out the rendering speed.

Nope. The client is hardcoded to have terrible rendering and this was done on purpose. So yeah you will essentially outpace the game if the mounts were any faster. Think of Minecraft and say, airship mods.

So it's not weak pcs or the ps3 or even ps4, it's simply their client and server design if anything. So while you feel you're not near beating out the rendering speed, it's actually coded to be fairly slow in general and heavensward areas actually makes it the most apparent. Anyone who is currently doing mods or tools to make said .dat mods will tell you that there's a lot of hard coded limitations on the client because notice how no matter the system, the game has an .....interesting way of behaving when it starts hitting the render cap on player/monsters (think S rank or certain boss FATEs like Proto Ultima.)

So they can boost it fairly easily, they would have to go back and change the rendering in general though IF that is their reasoning for not allowing it. Since it's Yoshi though...I can honestly see it coming down to "wanting to keep things fair for everyone" or some such.

Uhh, I don't outpace the rendering at flying speed, not even close, and that's significantly faster than ground speed.

The only time I ever had problem with stuff rendering (hello, hunts) was when I was still playing on PS3. Other than that, it has taken some truly massive crowds in order to cause anything that I might consider a rendering problem.

Ground mount speed is not the issue here.

I sometimes outpace the rendering of gathering nodes on the mini map while flying. Annoying as heck when I can't remember exactly where the level 55 nodes are. I have to drop to the ground in the general area and root around that way before they'll appear.

I'd hate to see the world become meaningless to a playerbase that considers itself entitled to mounts that let them zip over the land. There's nowhere we'd need to go that a nearby aetheryte can't take us. The current mount speeds are just fine IMO.
