ello there guys! im currently new to this site and i was wondering if im to late to start playing this game? i currently know nothing about the game. im fresh new, but i want to play it so bad. right now im playing blade and soul and its starting to get boring and server is laggy. im an active member and i like end game raiding/content im also considered semi hardcore. i was thinking if this game will survive longer after 3.2? i dont wsnt to join a dead game. also what class/role are good? im more of a dps kinda class i like the ninja is it good? what server are good? thanks for your time! also i don't want to pay a fee 15 a month if the servers are laggy or the game is somewhat dead.

-Well, it's never too late to start the game. They've made it fairly easy for new people to catch up, that being said, there's a whole lot of story and questing ahead of you. Most content in this game is gated behind the main scenario, so that's something to consider if you're not a fan of stories.

-Server wise, Balmung and Gilgamesh tend to be the most active, but have a ton of RP going on. They're very hard to get a character created on, unless you're willing to try at 4am EST. Just check where the data centers are, which will help you choose a server in terms of lag. The NA one is based out of Montreal, Canada. There's one in Japan and one in Europe (not sure where that one's located.) I've never had any issues, but I'm about 1 hour from Montreal. (someone probably knows off the top of their head which data center is located where)

-Job wise, just play what interests you, Ninja's pretty good though some might chime in with what's top notch right now.

-As for end game, there's a few dungeons for "hardcore", Alexander Savage had a very low success rate, though SE admitted afterwards it was probably tuned a little too high. Semi-Hardcore, there's primals which are just one instanced fight that require decent skill to get through. Most of the time the struggle is finding other people with similar skill.

- Yes, the game will survive past 3.2, for those who have been around since the beginning, the game is beginning to stagnate a little, but people just starting though? Tons to do.

thank you for your time to reply to my comment.

i see that the game is still on. other than balmung and gilgamesh what server you recommend? NA tho. Leaviathan?

as for ninja. well im choosing that since i like melee + dps.

last question. is this game gil dependant? do i need to craft or can i make my way by grinding? i hate crafting.

The game isn't super gil-dependent, but that largely depends on what you want to be doing. If you're just plowing through the story and leveling up? Nah, you really don't need money to do that. If you're trying to furnish a house? Better have a decent amount of gil coming in.

actually, i don't even care about housing. why did they even bring that up instead of better in game content? lol anyways, yeah im talking more about gear and such or for upgrades (meaning i will need some gil)? idk if ninja is gil dependant. im currently lurking thro internet and reading about it

Don't go to Balmung or that other server -- they're not active as much as they are overcrowded.

Several servers have large populations without being overcrowded. I'm on Hyperion, which is one of those servers. And if you need a FC, mine is very welcoming for new players (we have several right now) and our senior members often help others through the game's various raids and battle content.

You won't really need gil if you're just leveling up and grinding gear. You might eventually, if you want to do the relic questline without leveling up gathering and crafting classes -- but you'll also get gil just by playing the game (there's not much need to spend gil on anything, so you pretty much keep whatever you don't spend on teleports). And when the time comes that you do need gil, there are ways in this game to farm pretty easily.

Welcome!

EDIT: Creating characters on worlds such as Hyperion can still be difficult, but don't give up! SE always cycles the available worlds for new characters. If you try creating on a world and it's closed, just wait a few hours and check again. I've often found it easiest to create characters on Hyperion in the middle of the night or in the early morning.

Thayos Redblade in game. May be on later tonight, but I think you would be happy with Hyperion'so size if you like a healthy population that doesn't crash the servers after big updates.

Just playing the game will gear you up properly. If you care about owning fancy clothes and items for your house/lawn, then ya, gil can go a long way. Balmung is very active in terms of PF, but I do admit, in terms of end game progression, it's pretty bad. Highest populated server with one of the lowest success rates for Coil. Not sure if there's a strong end game server (on the NA side anyways), the JP servers have a much stronger player base (I believe Hio knows more about that).

Ultros is a decent server with a good population, but I actually think Hyperion's is better having seen both.

There's a smaller benchmarking program you can download and run if you're concerned about your PC's performance. FFXIV runs on a surprisingly large range of systems, it's really just a matter of how well it runs.

NP thayos. Also i wanted to ask, i know you said its high in population but like the bottom post said, is hyperion good on end game? like i said im an active player and would also like to do some end game content (don't need to be elitist or anything, just want some good end game content done) do you do any end game atm?

and thanks for the info, right now i can only play NA server since i live in puerto rico and i would lag otherwise.

I'm so excited to start playing. the only downroad is the 15 bucks a month ;/ but i also love the support team and the content they are bringing in. so i guess the 15 are worth it. (i hate pay to win, or f2p mmorpg. i also just downloaded the game so i will give this trial a try and will avoid benchmark (guessing i can check ping and such via in game better?)

I am not really an endgame guy, but I often see groups in the party finder doing endgame. Now is a great time to jump inot with the new patch coming.

The game is actually really bad about telling you your ping. There are ways to figure it out if it becomes a problem for you. I suggested the benchmark because you mentioned your PC's performance and the benchmark is a good way to see that without having to download a 30 GB MMO. But hey, if you've finished doing that, have at it.. see what happens.
