Forum has been quiet, so I'm contributing. I was bonding materia for me and my wife and it occurred to me that the process could be like gear repair. Why do we still have to change to our job to bond materia, if we don't need to for repairs?

That's a good question, I think the answer may be less gameplay oriented than just design oriented. For instance repairing gear is something you do far more often than bonding materia, and you may not want to be lugging your crafting gear around with you while (for instance) raiding. Bonding materia on the other hand isn't really something you do out in the field. It's a town activity and so there's no particularly good reason to let you do it outside the class.

Does gear have an impact on overmelding?

Well if you or someone else you request melds from meets the requirements, you don't need to change classes to do it anymore. The only real impact on changing jobs is the "repeated meld" when overmelding.

Gear has little to no effect on it though.

Are you sure? Is that a recent change? The last time I did a meld for someone I had to be the right crafting job to do it (wouldn't let me otherwise).

No. It's a flat percentage chance.

Kudos to contributing!

Not that this forum is super lively anyway, but I'm waiting for more info on Deep Dungeons to drop.

Yep, just slapped in some melds while on DRK waiting for our A8S runs to start.

Uhh, I'm pretty sure they DID make it like repairs so that you don't need to be on the crafter class? I did some melds recently as PLD.
