I'm excited about new stuff but I have to work late and may not even get to play tonight :(

So what's the deal with hair flowers? Are they going to be 3-star crafts and stupidly expensive for no good reason? Should I bother finally getting a room so I can grow my own flowers?

I'm definitely thinking of re-subbing for a month at this point. I don't have any games on the go right now, and XIV would definitely provide at least a months worth of entertainment since I haven't played much in the last year.

I honestly don't think this patch is an overwhelmingly good patch... if you're more of a "seasonal subscriber," then this is probably the perfect time to come back for a month. The highlight of this patch might be the conclusion of the Dragonsong War, imo.

Next patch with Deep Dungeons will hopefully be epic!

I did a Weeping City run, wiped four times to Ozma because one of tanks in alliance B was derping. It's always alliance B....

Anyway, I took the DRG head from the first fight, and then later the DRG body and hands dropped. I was the only DRG, so I could have gotten three items in one run if SE wasn't **** bent on limiting lots every **** time the release a new raid. I also started the next phase of relic spear V.2. It's really nice that for one of the upgrade items they put in a ton of different ways to get it, it really sucks that the only way to get the other upgrade item is to buy it for 300 Eso. I really hate the idea of farming up 24k Eso.

As a side not, my shiny new EVGA GTX 1080 SC will arrive on Thursday. Not that it really matters for this game, I'm already maxing out the graphics on a four year old card. I am looking forward to maxing out The Witcher III though.

I got to play a bit tonight after all.

The moogle quests are hilarious. They're a combination of moogles pranking each other, and "Oh no, I need an item. If only somebody could craft me one. Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink."

Looks like the hair flowers aren't going to be so bad after all. Looks like level 53 synths that just need 20 of whatever color flower and a few other cheap mats. Time to plant a flower garden I guess. I'll have to actually buy myself a room now.

Turns out the fenrir mounts flies in a cloud of ice crystals which leave a trail behind it. Kind of neat, though the effect might get annoying after a while. We'll see I guess.

Only four? Consider yourself lucky.

After giving up enough up-to-2-hours chunks of my life trying to clear this instance and failing, I think I'm gonna swear it off for a couple weeks or so until people can stop doing whatever it is that's causing them to suck at it, or until SE nerfs it down because I'm about 99% sure they will.

Which was nothing wrong with it, because when you play on both datacenters, you can document the very different situations. It's hard to believe people did T13 before the ability to overpower it because largely on NA servers, pugging is indeed very unfriendly for clearing harder content, that's not even trolling, but as the old saying goes "It's only trolling when you get offended." Much like he says he's never seen a wipe in Ifrit HM, therefore automatically means I'm wrong in my experience somehow.

Oh really? Have they said anything about how it will play differently by the way? I feel like I might have missed the latest on PotD because I have not kept up since NicoNico I think.

They basically stated that Deep Dungeons will play differently than "overworld" content because of the separate progression. I don't think they have an official translation out yet but it was akin to:

"This is basically a dungeon that scales in difficulty and rewards the further you go. You start from level 1 and your attributes grow in a different manner than that of content outside of it. It's broken up into floors where the later floors, for example floor 50, will be a fair bit harder to progress through. There's a boss every 10th floor."

So it's essentially taking Nyzul Isle and mixing it with Salvage from XI.

Nope, you're literally just growing them in your FC/Personal house.

Perhaps it's fitting that I managed to clear both coil and what looks to be the finale of the Dragonsong War segment of the storyline recently, because I've decided that with this patch I'm actually going to unsub. Maybe for a while, maybe for good, dunno yet. I have nothing really keeping me here anymore.

3.3 has cranked up the overall difficulty even on content that used to be trivial, which some people like, but I'm finding because of that I am struggling just to get a clear on things like the weekly raid, and even mundane things like expert roulettes. I took an hour today to do an EX roulette dungeon that I am used to having cleared within about 20, 25 minutes at the most (wiped to the last boss about 7-8 times), and I have so far made 8 attempts at Wiping City, all of which failed. People talk a lot about how much of a test Ozma is for most groups, but only one of these 8 runs even made it to him.

It's gotten to the point where there's nothing I actually feel like doing anymore when I log on because I'm pretty much anticipating failure -- and in my opinion, once you're at that point, it's probably time to move on.

Grats on clearing all the story! I do believe that it will be a lot easier to get clears if you wait a week or two, but I do understand what you mean.

You know it is quite funny how we are all so different. It really is quite cool that so many players stay/leave for so entirely different reasons.

I haven't done this particular batch of content because I'm not subbed right now, but I will say that failure on "the new stuff" is quite common in the first 2-3 weeks after release. The number of wipes on Cloud of Darkness in the first few weeks man... or Steps of Faith? *shudder*

It gets better as people learn the fights.

It actually really is not, not in my experience, and not to this extent. Maybe if we were talking extreme/savage content you'd be right, but I'm not.

I have never had THIS much trouble getting the weekly raid cleared, or even just getting an expert roulette done, not even on release days.

People often say "WoD was bad too when it first came out!" but I never had that much trouble with it at all, aside from the occasional miscreants that would intentionally troll the raid, but those folks were in LotA and ST as well, and I still wouldn't run into those sorts of people 8 runs in a row.

Weeping City... just tried it last night. My group chickened out and abandoned on the second boss. So I still haven't finished a run.

I've only ever been a part of one abandon on all other runs in 24 man raids.

That said, I like the difficulty! Just going to take awhile until people learn the mechanics and chill.

That's the thing though, despite how much **** I get for saying it, it's simply people refusing to learn. Yeah you won't master the content immediately since I've finally done the new content on my Sarga character and whooo boy.

Firstly, Weeping City.

It's not hard, at all. It's difficulty is higher than Void Ark, but like Sephirot Ex, it's PURELY mechanic driven more so than "BE AN ABSOLUTE MASTER" type of difficulty check. First boss? Easy, in phase..3? You get targeted you need to put the web near the edges of the arena (basically away from the boss) and when she goes underground and see you see the quicksand animation start, head for the web and stand on it.

No matter how many times you tell people or yell it in alliance chat, the same people keep dying. Over. And Over. And Over. Like they simply refuse to learn it. That's the actual "hard" part of that first boss because having some people drop down to kill the knots isn't really bad long as you have people at the top to eat the balls and dps down the aether ball.

Second Boss. Pando Warden.

Probably the easiest boss in terms of mechanics but the main one that people seem to have the most trouble on aside Ozma..the main things people seem to not understand, after telling them: "After the 3 add phase, STAND IN ONE GREEN CIRCLE IN ORDER TO SURVIVE MEGA DEATH."

Guess what happens?

Megadeath.
16 people dead.

Rinse and repeat for 9 wipes, vote abandon.

Ozma...even though I'll get **** for saying this I'm saying this right now: I have no idea what guides people on the NA datacenter read, nor if any actually did Turn 9 or somehow forgot about Heavensward and Void Ark content, but you NEVER stack meteors or run away with the flashing "RUN HERE" indicator. Maybe people are reading a troll guide, I don't know. Ozma is fairly easy, it has a TON of mechanics to learn, but it's not hard mechanics:

Cube - Gather close, AoE goes out, Tank runs to the side. Healers eat the ball (on JP datacenter anyway since it prevents the tank from losing DPS and potential wipe due to ball+laser spam+auto attack damage which then forces ozma to target random players for laser)
Triangle - Get out of Middle, he shoots his laser, go back in do your business.
Acceleration Bomb(s) - Don't move, don't cast, don't auto attack until the debuff wears, you can do your business up until 3 seconds left. People seen this mechanic in quite a lot of XIV content, namely Crystal Towers and ex primals in some variation so when you tell people this and you notice people BLOWING UP BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LISTEN...well you're in for a bad day.

Last Boss is beyond easy it was kind of disappointing after Ozma, but needless to say, I notice people suggest the tank to face her left/right in order to prevent the party from having to run around, rather than looking at which side her axe hair is and just move left/right in advance.

So while I love weeping city, I don't know what guide people are reading that suggests making this harder than it needs to be. Nidhogg Ex on the other hand I absolutely adore because it's hard but it's Shiva Ex hard.

As in it's easy mechanically but SO very easy to mess up at the same time. Basically 3.3 a lot of people dubbed "The Awakening" because it's a huge wake up call not only for the game, but because, as one OF topic put it: "A good lesson that you can't be lazy anymore."

How did you get that from what I said?

Taking time to learn fights is not the same as refusing to learn fights. World of Darkness (for instance), eventually people figured it out. You'd get one guy that'd die to the big Ahriman's death gaze (don't remember his name right now), he'd get laughed at, you'd kill the boss and move on. Eventually people figured it out and wipes became less and less common. It just takes time for enough people to learn the fights that you can put 24 randoms into the same instance and have it not be a clusterf***.

Stop projecting your bias. We know you have a low opinion of NA players. Perhaps an NA player cut you off in traffic. Perhaps an NA player secretly pees on all your mail. NA represents a TON of people and making generalizations about a group that size is ALWAYS WRONG.

Yeah, last warning. Do not turn this into a "nothing is hard/NA sucks/hardcore players are terrible" thread or I'm going to start nuking posts into oblivion. Tempted to do it already, but I actually like you guys. Please start another thread about Weeping City if you want to go down that rabbit hole (I'll gladly participate, too). Just don't do it here.

Honestly, I didn't find Weeping City to be any harder than the other 24 man raids. Sure, we wiped a few times, but half of the people there were there for the first time. We still ended up finishing. It was far from a clean run, but it wasn't that bad either. My favorite bit was Ozma. The final boss is actually kind of disappointingly easy.

I just resubbed to give BLM a shot. I want to get a little used to it in preparation for Palace of the Dead. It will be quite the achievement to just understand how the job works though since I have not touched it since 1.23, but it is 50. I will start by going through the class quests I think, maybe I will get an idea of how it works in terms of how to dps. Was hard setting up my hotbar when I have no clue what/how to use the spells, but I guess I will have to tweak it as I understand more about it.

Btw I was thinking, do you think it might be better to actually use classes when going in solo/duo in Palace of the Dead? It feels like it could be good with more versatility?

I just played through Weeping City for the first time, only had one wipe on Ozma near the end. Other than that though, it's a pretty straightforward 24 man dungeon, it's very well done. I don't think the difficulty is any different than any of the previous 24 man dungeons, I honestly think WoD gave people more trouble.

Just like all the other ones, I think what's making this one a little tougher, people are under geared and fights are dragging on longer than they need to. Give it a couple more weeks and people will be flying through this.

Got my clear of Weeping City tonight. Went through it with an all-FC party, and we had a blast. Most of us hadn't cleared yet, so we all jumped on TS and got 'er done. Wiped several times on Ozma (getting it close to dead each time), and after a rejected vote abandon we won on the next try.

Then finished up the storyline missions. Seemed like not a whole lot of storyline this time, but I liked what we got.

My wife and I completed HW 3.0. After we both hit 60 last week, I made us both a full set of Sky Pirate gear. I even broke out my metallic gold dye and now I'm a pimped out solid gold Blackmage, LOL.The last 2 parts of HW went well. In the first dungeon, we died a couple of times, but no wipe. That one was very exciting. The 8 man fight on the second part went so fast, it was almost anti-climatic. Queue time for the first part was around 15 minutes, but the second queued up within a minute.

A a lot of it is because that fight is designed to be doable at i145 and most people now are i200+. It was a bit more epic a year ago.

I finished up the main storyline, which didn't take much. There is only one dungeon and and one trial. The ridiculous jumping around nostalgia quests that came after seemed like they just wouldn't end. It might have had more impact if we had spent more than a couple hours with most of those characters. I had that same problem when Hauchfortel died. He was barely there to begin with. Killing off a character that we barely know really doesn't have much affect on me.

Anyway, I also got caught up on the Hildy quests. They werewere somewhat amusing, but not as good as the previous batch.

My weekly static mastered two more stages of Thordan Ex, and we even fumbled our way into the final stage once. We really wanted to go for a second hour, but one of our members really needed to go to bed (big day at work early the next morning). So hopefully we'll get the win next week. One thing I've learned though is when your static only has time to play once/week, the first few runs are usually spent knocking the rust off while remembering the jump rope routine.

After Thordan, the seven of us still in game did Aquapolis, and we made it to floor 7! We got to the fourth floor on my map, and another guy got to the fifth floor. The Aquapolis is essentially bonus content, but it was especially fun after an hour of repeatedly dying. We got so much lore that I was able to buy my paladin's last piece of lore gear without needing to run my roulette.

I've done a big fat lot of nothing in game for the last few days.

For the past week there have been two warring voices in my head. One says "you should do some moogle dailies." And then a louder one says "or you could play Odin Sphere instead!" The second voice has been winning recently.

(Seriously, the new Odin Sphere remake is ridiculously fun.)
