Like I said, I'm OK with SE freeing up abandoned houses. However, I think that if you still have an active account and are still paying the subscription, you shouldn't lose your house just because you haven't logged in.

Yea if someone cancels their subscription that is one thing. We kept our subscription just for the house. Bank was so backed up at the end of the year it took a extra 15 days to close. Then throw Christmas and new years and thanksgiving in things got behind. Sometimes real life is more important.

Not only that you can loose everything period:
Quote:
. Please note that the indoor and outdoor furnishings and gil cannot be retrieved after 35 days from the day of removal.

and you only get:
Quote:
80% of the price paid for the estate grounds in gil

Quote:
Items that cannot be retrieved
・Construction permits
・Indoor and outdoor furnishings that are destroyed upon removal
・Interior and exterior walls
・Gil spent to add rooms
・Unharvested crops
・Aetherial wheels currently charging

The worst part is most of this is because of SE crappy support.

Tesee has been playing FFXI for so long it was her ex-husband who set up her account to a email she no longer uses. She can not change it because she does not know the security questions. Funny thing is they let you change charge info no problem but not email?
So they will not let her change her email so we got no warnings.

Are you kidding? Almost EVERYTHING we did in FFXI was decided by the players, rather than the developers. Between blink tanks, SMN healers, burn parties, chainspell>stun, etc, and even more basic things like EXPing on IT+ mobs, did we EVER play FFXI the way the devs intended? The developers may create the tools, but you can't always predict how the players will decide to use them. FFXI players were incredibly good at finding ways to completely break the intended game design.

"I'm sorry. RDM can't melee well enough so I will have to decline your application to our linkshell"
No one - ever
I was discussing jobs being viable at endgame. Developer intent refers to SE intending Red mage to be a support job. They are given tools to support and that's what they excel at. They're jack of all and master of none, but they're at least good and being support and they're never 'undesirable' as support role.

Not ironically, the balance changes that would have solved the disparity between 1H/DW and 2H weapon users probably would have pushed RDM more toward being viable melee as a byproduct. Believe it of not, there are formulas and modifiers to them that dictate whether or not the community thinks you're viable or not. I'd put all my gils on it Smiley: nod

Not to mention in mid 75 era RDM was the only job that could actually solo most of the gods. For example RDM melee wasn't "bad" but like thief, it couldn't touch the defense of many end game enemies (good luck meleeing on genbu for example) and I'm talking extreme early - mid 75 era when end-game actually started cranking up.

Surprisingly, we did play XI the way devs intended in many ways..which is what annoyed players because they didn't like it. Early on it was intended for us to exp on IT mobs (anything under IT gave **** exp), but they were too brutal, so they later adjusted T-VT to be viable, which players naturally gravitated to because of how spawns worked in 2002 and 2003. Another example of 'intended gameplay' is taking full alliances into Dynamis and Limbus. Which we did for a fair bit (if you got in on Dynamis early enough) but people eventually splintered off into making Dynamis shells and only going with about 18-30 people at best since it allowed you to be more guaranteed loot than the free for all it initially was.

So players did indeed shape XI a lot more than the devs ever will but that was usually because players wanted to break design for least resistance, RDM is a hot topic, but it was also one of the most powerful jobs in the game during the 75 era until it neared the 80+ cap and it finally fell behind. Did it heal and nuke as a efficiently as a WHM/BLM? Nope, but neither WHM nor BLM could support themselves indefinitely in order to solo stuff meant for alliances at the time. No where near until much, much later. People always throw back Avesta since he was the one who actually documented things, but it's been a common thing to the point you MAY have ended up running into a soloer going at a god which delayed your LS's Sky run.

As for housing in XIV, it's too far gone to fix because they'd **** off a lot of players. She kept her sub running but she had to interact with the house in that period in order to keep it. I keep my personal house active incase I want to resell it eventually or convert it to a solo FC and make an airship fleet so I have 8 Ships going at once.

All SE had to do was give everyone a Mog House with 100 slots and have Housing be a case by case basis (namely reserved only for FCs and have SEPARATE personal housing as yoshida said it would have been) and well, you pretty much guarantee a more stable housing on bigger servers because even Apartments were a bandaid fix because on balmung, it was filled up instantly, even more so because people utilize APTs and some houses as RP **** which takes slot of people not caring for RP but wanting an APT/House.

Maybe in 4.0 in the server uprgade things will change.

All this talk of FFXI makes me want to get back to playing soon. Just every time I go back it is just a little disappointing. Just miss the old FFXI game so bad.

I do not mind trust, I used my adventuring person pretty much in the game anyway. I spent allot of time solo in the game mainly because for a while we had a bad year or so at work and I ended up working every other week for a year. So most of the time during the day it was one other person and I since most people I know played at night. The game just feels empty and with no missions/story it feels hollow. Zones are so empty and even the cities right now. Tesee and I talked about starting a character over so there is story to do and two of us should be able to ace the stuff. It stinks to because we enjoy helping others and rarely anyone needs help. I miss campaign. I miss low level zones and people exp'ing there doing books.

In away I wish SE would stop FFXI and start a mmo closer to it or better yet stop the mobile version and do a full on mmo.

I doubt it will ever happen but a mobile version of it might be cool to play once in a while if they can make it work.

For FFXI we now might as well switch servers. Any restriction in FFXI for switching servers?

With FFXI and FFXIV being in the state they are I just miss gaming right now.

I started a fresh character in XI a while back and going through all the old missions and unlocks was a lot of fun. You might enjoy that.

And make sure you play on Asura.

We have been thinking of Asura just for a higher population. Our server is dead except Japanese players and it seems like mostly mules.

You won't hear anything until Nexon decides to. It's similar to how we heard jack all about Maplestory 2 aside that it exists and they just materialized it out of nowhere essentially.

Two companies who hate telling players information teaming up is the ultimate silence.

On Quetz and Asura the main hangouts are West Adoulin and Mhaura. But people tend to be out CPing and such.

While my stance on RDM melee back in the day is well known by the old timers, it wasn't really what I meant when inferring to not playing the game as intended. I'm talking more about stuff like, yeah, tickling Genbu to death with Bio over 4 hours and other behaviors that inevitably led to things like rage timers, blanket debuff immunities, flee speeds, super HP/TP regens, draw ins, depops, and so on. We can say someone wanting to test their limits is natural, and such things are an inevitable byproduct, but when players start getting held back because they don't subscribe to that malleable endgame player standard, or simply may not be skilled/geared enough to pull it off, you start running into trouble.

Taking the stance that it never personally happened to you or you never saw it (on your server) does not mean the behavior the didn't exist. From my own perspective, RDM was my main then, and with that came the ambition to maximize it as I could through gear. And yes, that meant chasing things "not expected of the job" at times, which translated to people being unwilling to help (because they didn't see the point), assigning priority if something was more useful to another job/person (even if rarely played) and thusly strung along even if I planned the event or kept track of ToDs, or that I should just solo the **** because I totally wanted to take an hour+ to do something I could otherwise do in 10-15m if some folks weren't such richardmuffins. Basically, so much of this headache could've been avoided if SE never invented Utsusemi or reacted much more quickly to the behavior, even if just through better monster AI.

Otherwise, various XI "features" just being people making due isn't really something to be praised. I felt for SMNs who didn't want to main heal. I empathized with WHMs who just wanted to be invited TO heal. I wanted THFs to be more than just getting invited at the last minute to land TH. I had more than my share of feedback to throw at SE, be it here or on the OF once it was a thing, but sometimes you get players too freakin' stubborn to accept change, those who can't really agree on potential solutions, or just want to **** on an idea because of who presented it even if it really was good. SE's a glacier when it comes to fixing issues, unless said issues actually work to the player's benefit. Then that shiz is hotfixed faster than Rog could belittle a poster for asking a question in =10.

Put another way, when I play Tetris, I want to play Tetris and not Candy Crush. When players start deviating from intent enough, yeah, you do start to potentially see two different types of games being played.

Re: Summoner -

To be fair, back in 2002 and 2003 when SMN got patched in, it was hot off the heels of FFIX and FFX which the main summoners at the time were amazing healers, so logically, people seen SMN and subbing WHM as a normal thing. Throw in the fact that the avatars were borderline useless until end-game (some exceptions) in the early days pre-adjustments that a SMN was better suited to being a main heal during leveling than a straight damage dealer. It sucked but that's how it was.

Re: Gearing for your playstyle -

I'm all for this but you also have to remember not everyone bent over backwards to getting their WHMs the WHM Hauby durng the CoP days either, but it wasn't uncommon to get help. However, being reasonable, who would you sooner give a DD oriented haste and stp item or double/triple/quad/quint hit piece to? A RDM or a melee DD like SAM/BLU/DRG/MNK/THF etc? I wouldn't necessarily call that stubbornness and more so just realizing "for the greater good" it would make no sense.

Yeah it sucks certain items you could never get unless you had help and no one would go "hey lets go get our WHM or RDM or BLM (amazing tank/melee DD piece) instead of who will truly benefit it. However you DO hear "Let's go get our WHM (amazing refresh piece) or (cure potency piece) and our RDM/SCH/BLM this (MAB/MACC piece)" which is more than reasonable. As said I'm all for gearing out your playstyle but unless you were playing a job actually designed to being a hybrid (e.g BLU) it wasn't a bad thing that people "shrugged off" trying to gear a RDM outside of its norm if you planned on running end-game content.

Like I said, back in late 2003 early 2004, try being a RDM melee or even a THF during sky gods. Let alone try being a DRK that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. XI's depth come with being able to tackle content in numerous ways but there's always a preferred method regardless because it just works, i.e people will almost always want to stun **** like Dynamis Lord, hence RDM/DRK being everyone's wetdream back in the day, which you couldn't do if you were trying to focus on meleeing, because you miss a stun while trying to cast your enspell..you just wiped everyone.

That "greater good" angle only entertains the bleeding edge endgame play, which it should be no secret that I believe MMOs need to be more than that while XI perhaps had that indirectly at times. Rather, that investment had me easily soloing coffer keys without ever needing to rest, handling some NMs for people who couldn't find help otherwise, busting trains in CN/Garlaige prior to MPK patch, or things like single-handedly keeping a Campaign battle alive when that was more of a thing. And while the argument could be made I was overleveled for such things, XI was also a different kind of beast in even trash mobs being significantly beefier than players after a point.

In the grand scheme, such things might not be worthy of praise, but that's not what I was after. They were things to do. People needed help. I didn't lock myself to 24/7 camping, nor did I hold others to that standard. Sometimes I made a friend out of it. Sometimes I never saw them again, and that's okay. Of course, the kind of fake friends that only care about how effectively myself and others get them stuff aren't really the kind I want around. Unfortunately, that's what you get when decisions are constantly made on the basis of the greater good.

If you switch to merit mode instead of exp mode, you can effectively cap your character at level 75. Since FFXI stayed at the level 75 cap through most of it's life, there's still a ton of content. If you wanted to go harecore vqnilla you'd have to avoid using certain storage options, homepoint warps, ect. It's doable though.

*edit*
FWIW, there are many of us who play both ways. I'm limited in the fact that I have to keep certain jobs at 75, but I still run content at level 75 cap. Keep in mind that while there have been quite a few quality of life changes, there is still a lot of low level content that is still difficult.

Nah would never go full hardcore vanilla again. The only rule is playing the content at 75, anyone beyond that will just sync down. Since it's a new character I just won't level past 75.

The game starts new players off with Tenzen, Mihli, Valaineral, Adelheid and Joachim now which is nice. Don't have to waste time with Naji or Excenmille. Still using Kupipi tho cause Mihli is a noob that blows through her MP in 20 seconds. Need Ferreous Coffin and the other buff Trusts.

You know I have spent the last two days reading up on FFXI and reading allot of returned or returning threads on the various forums.
Seems like people are having a hard time getting end game gear because they need to be done in party and if you are not geared they wont let you in. So you cant get in without good gear but it is hard to get help getting good gear.

You know I would think it would be opposite now. With little content being released be would be bored and want to help to have something to do.

Also you would think these players that have been playing for so long would want to help the new players out so they stay. The game is no doubt on its last legs and the less players the faster they will take the game down.

This kind of bothers me. I never had issues before but then again I was skilled and geared about the best you could be and I was WHM.

Welcome to the Catch 22 of MMOs.

Like it or not, it's one of those reasons I'm a big advocate of alternative progression methods. If you don't find a good guild/linkshell that could help you, you'd still have a means to grow. If you don't meet ever changing, unknown PUG standards, you'd still be able to do something about it. I have no issue with (coordinated) groups getting the loot faster, but right now, the only thing really holding it back is the paranoia no one would ever group then. Which naturally segues into the argument that if group content is so un-fun that good carrots are absolutely required to coax participation and people really don't want to help after they got theirs, well, it seems more like we've got some fails somewhere.
