Hat/Helm Hide FeatureFollow

A Feature in FFXI that annoyed my friends and me, was being forced to look at hats/helms.

Granted its a feature created in other MMOs like WoW, and Aion (and others), but it had a reason.

MMOs give you the ability to customize your character, and they do it for a reason. Its what the players want.

If the decision was to be more 'realistic' I'm going to have to say yes helms are more realistic for battle harden tanks... but hats are not. They are a fashion accessory.
Players shouldn't be forced to wear Tall pointy Hats for Accuracy, Turbans with feathers for Haste, or any other type of frilly big bonnet with feathers.

They only do it because they MUST do it, to match melees who wear helms for stats.

There are ALLOT of people who care about how they look. My Girlfriend refused to play FFXI, solely because of this issue.
She loves RPGs, but when she plays a character, she wants to avoid looking like Hobo the Clown.

If it really didn't matter what players thought, when it came to character looks... then why implement a character creation menu? It's more realistic to be unable to chose; Gender, Hair color, eye color, size, skin tone, etc.

The ability to have some customization of armor/clothes is a nice touch so far, but me and my friends would all love to finally see the day where we stop wearing Emp. Pin at Lv75, or MP pins, just to avoid ugly hats.
(I actually leveled up PLD in XI JUST because I could wear the AF/Relic in place of a helm.)

I am totally for this. I do not want to be a Roegadyn wearing an onion helm. That would look so silly!

This can go for cloaks/capes too if they are shown on the character this time.

I had this same thought earlier when I was... ahem.. not playing the Beta. ._.

It really bugs me when I can't hide certain ugly pieces of armor. The headgear is my only real complaint though, cloaks/capes should stay. And besides.. Wouldn't want you to be able to fight without ANY armor showing. o.-

We mainly recognize other players by their characters face usually (in the case of rare armor, then maybe that too), and besides, the only part we really customize is the face. Barely anything else.

I always unequipped my headgear when I wasn't out fighting in FFXI, especially those funny side-of-face guard things. I wouldn't complain if they didn't include a hide cape/headgear feature, but it would make it easier than having to unequip all the time.

Though if they have a hide feature, it'd be nice if you could hide everyone's as well. I hate seeing tacky capes with a passion.

Yeah, here's to hoping that our early-level helmet options aren't limited to dental headgear this time!

I think I've mentioned this before, but since I'm set on playing Fisher, I want a hat with lures in it.

I absolutely agree.
Lord of The Rings does this really well. You can choose to hide many things, your helm, shoes, cloak, gloves, pretty much everything apart from the chest and pants.

I kinda like having a visual indicator of what someones about (defense, evasion, magic). Maybe that's just me.

You could always just not wear something if it's ugmo. Never really noticed the stats making a difference in actual fights, on anything besides weapons.

Atleast this way, you don't have 30% of ppl in their underwear tanking mobs.

I think you should be able to hide helmets, masks, capes(if shown), and jewelry.

Terrible idea, IMO.

If you care so much about the aesthetics of your character, then wear what looks good. If you care for stats, where what has the best stats. If you care for both, then you're gonna have to make sacrifices and compromises.

For example, I always geared myself up pretty well in FFXI, but I'd never wear anything that looked like crap cos I cared about the look of my character. I was never one of the DRGs to wear their AF gear with a Scorpion harness, for example, cos it was painful to look at. It offered greater stats, but looked gay.

Basically, that's my thoughts. If you don't like the look of something, don't wear it, but don't get what it offers.

Why would I wear something that looked better for the look if something else had better stats? It doesn't make sense to not offer higher levels of customization. It's an easy option to add to hide a helmet. Hell Aion even has a feature where you can make armor/weapons look like different ones if you destroy the one you want the other to look like.

I can't see my face or awesome hair I spent all that time customizing. I'd really prefer a Hide Helmet feature over unequipping everytime

But an all-purple, spangled, skin-tight suit with fantasy-dragon-wings on top: totally "hetero," right?

Yeah, it does! That would be a killer system to have here, since not only could you hide almost every armor piece, but you could design and choose a set of armor that was strictly for looks. And you can then choose to display that armor set, while still retaining your stats from the gear you're really wearing underneath. What's more you could save multiple "visual" sets (think it was 2 or 3 at a time), get rid of those items, and all you had to carry was your actual armor (You could still swap between the other "looks" sets, regardless of having the items in inventory). Best of both worlds.

Plus it would save us lalafell from having to gouge out our eyes from staring at eye-level, Roegadyn subligar for the next few years...won't somebody please think of the lalafell!

That makes no sense...
I'm asking for a feature where we do NOT have to make sacrifices to enjoy the game a 100%.

What you're suggesting is that we just make sacrifices, when it could easily be fixed and please everyone, with a system that requires only the use of current in game graphics.

No additional graphics be made, just using what is currently possible thru sacrifices.

Granted options in some MMOs offer more customization, and I love those, but this request is more than rational.

***************************************************************

on a side note, SE DID mention something about maybe adding a hide equipment feature, but it was on a video I can't seem to find.

And after the pre-release event, there was no mention of it.

Does anyone know of where to find the original video that had it?
