So I just hit 80, and saw that there is some decent void shard armor available.

I chrono'ed to 50, and went to Commonlands to try some of the Befallen Void Shard quests. The first one wasn't too bad, died twice, but that was mainly about learning the zone. The next one, I pulled the one visible mob near the entrance, and literally 16-20 more linked mobs showed up. Tried another, and it was similarly out of my league.

So my question is, are these Void Shard quests only intended for groups, or are they supposed to be soloable (though admittedly difficult)? I haven't gotten AoD yet, so haven't tried with a merc, but that's something I can look into.

Thanks,

Tat

As I recall most of them were for groups. There was one soloable daily that used to kick my troubador's butt regularly.

What does the quest say in your Journal?

You can get void shards doing solo daily quests out in Lavastorm: http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Lavastorm_%28EQ2_Quest_Series%29#Level_80_Content

The shard dungeons can be hard. Try with a merc, will probably make a world of difference. Some of the zones are indeed much harder than others.

I'd recommend grouping with some higher level(but not level capped) players if you enjoy the zone but don't want to mow everything down.

If you don't mind mowing everything down you could run them with a lvl92-95 character mentored down to your level.

Obelisk of Ankzul is a good zone to run with a lvl92-95 has a moderate amount of mobs to kill for XP and you get some plat from a plat chest spawned after killing Kierax the Energy Wielder. (not a body drop chest) and you get some status thrown in if you kill the final named.

The collections found inside can also be sold for some plat.

This is pretty funny. I >finally< see a new thread on here, so I open it up and start reading.... man, this sounds familiar... oh wait, I'm the OP!!! After 10 months, I had forgotten all about it :)

What I did at the time was get AoD (you can now buy the parts separately for SC), and got a merc. I think I had the tank merc from the tinkerfest quest (I believe it's a Berserker). That made all of the difference. It could tank the pack long enough for me to heal him and do a few AoEs, and that thinned it out enough to make it winnable.

Oh, and I also did the Lavastorm ones, and they were much simpler. Got all of the Void shard armor that I wanted at the time (95 and in ToV gear now).
