Everquest doesn't workFollow

I have never played ever quest and I don't even know if this is in the right forum since I see an ever quest 1 and 2. I was at a game shop and saw a couple of ever quest games and saw that they looked to be similar to diablo and champions return to arms. They were 5 bucks each and had all the discs. I installed the first one which is called ever quest evolution. It is installed but when I try to play it says "patching ever quest" at the top and says connecting... After that goes on for a bit it says "Could not establish a connection. Check your network connection or contact eqtech@soe.sony.com. I do have internet and can play my diablo game and all other games just fine. I noticed the back of the box says 2003. Is this game too old and the server no longer works? Or should I email this eqtech? 13 year old games might not have the same help available. Also there is a key code on the box whichim guessing I may need to use.

Sony doesn't look after Everquest anymore, it is now a company called Daybreak. Plus given that your discs are 13-ish years old, my guess would be that your game tries to connect to update servers which themselves have meanwhile been updated/renamed/refurbished. So, assuming that that is indeed the issue then the bad news would be that your discs are obsolete. But for $5 I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. Put them in a pictureframe, hang it on your wall and call it art.

The good news is that for Everquest 2, you don't need discs to play. You simply download an installer, that installer then installs (hence the name ^^) the game framework. As you make your way through Norrath (the name of the gameworld), it will download any content it needs automatically. Just head over to everquest2.com and click the big green "play for free" button to get started.

You also don't need the discs to play EverQuest 1 either. And you can also play for free, you can download it from www.everquest.com. It will automatically download any updated files that it needs up to the Underdark expansion, I believe... maybe even later.
