I personally don't have an issue with games like WarZ and Towns getting released through greenlight, that's kind of what I thought greenlight was meant for (more so Towns than WarZ). I just think that it needs to be very clearly stated that the games are still in development.

As far as why complete games aren't getting any of the spotlight, it's because the community isn't voting on them. Games with a following that put themselves on greenlight are usually greenlit within a day or two, Dysis and DF:UW come to mind.

In theory WarZ and Towns are ideal greenlight games. The problem comes along when they take said greenlight games and then try to sell the product which clearly isn't ready. From the steam website.

Quote:
Games are submitted to Steam Greenlight in various stages of completion. Once a game has been Greenlit, Valve will reach out to the developer to determine their timeline for finishing their game and launching on Steam.

Quote:
There are two categories in Steam Greenlight: One for mostly-finished games seeking distribution via Steam and one for early builds and concepts that are simply seeking feedback from the community. You can choose the right category for your title when you post.

Both WarZ and Towns fall into category #2 yet Valve decided somewhere along the way that they belong in category #1. I do agree that if they do decide to start putting up beta's for sale on steam it needs to be clearly stated that you are purchasing an unfinished copy of the game, which neither title had.

Hmm I suppose that the community is partially to blame for bad titles being voted up in greenlight. Oh well nothing any of us can do about that. -shrug-

Got a link for this, or is there a code because all I can find is the standalone game, no DLC for $40.

Anyone else notice that Steam sales so far seem lackluster? I mean I saw Bioshock up for 4.99 as a flash sale and I'm like for 4.99 you can get Bioshock 1 and 2 at Amazon, Or the one that has Bioshock 1,2 and Spec Ops: The Line for 9.99), and the daily deals just seem terrible.

I like how we complain when there's too much good sales on Steam and we complain when there aren't enough good sales on Steam. Can they do anything right?

Would it make you feel better to learn that I won't get the keys until mid-January?

GamersGate wrote:
Notice:
Due to an error in our system the price for this bundle was incorrect and lower than it should have been. The bundle offer has therefore been taken down and it is no longer available for purchase.

Because of the high demand on this bundle we have ran out of serials for most of the titles. Unfortunately, we will not get new serials until middle of January next year

I was going to post here but people were spending literally 6+ hours trying to get an order to go through, the site was so hammered with traffic. Then PayPal issues or fraud alerts because GG kepts trying to ping against PayPal and then crashing, etc. It was a complete cluster.

I found it after I posted, but unfortunately cannot remember my Amazon credentials. I have an email in to support right now, so hopefully it can get cleared up before the deal is gone. I saw no mention of how long that price was good for, do you know?

I wonder if Amazon uses it's size and other income sources to offset sales and allow the digital deals to be large? Like the Walmart of the Digital game service world. I guess I don't know how the sales prices are regulated by, does the developer of the game determine it, or does Amazon go out, buy up these keys for a set price, and the developer say "I don't care what you do with them, I have my money"

You're a man who loves his DOTA 2, I assume.

Gamefly has some stuff on sale including Hotline: Miami for $4.99 and Torchlight II for $9.99. Plus a 20% off coupon with HOLIDAY20 so $4 and $8 respectively.

I don't know if the coupon is usable more than once.

My imperfect understanding is that Amazon negotiates a sale price with the publisher so both of them are getting less money per unit but hopefully make it up in volume. I've been on forums where their Digital Games marketing guy hangs out and he'll say "We're trying to set up a great deal with Sega" or "If we get good results from this one day sale, the publisher might be good to go for a bigger bundle". There was also that one $10 "Action Pack" a few months ago that sold out hours into its supposed week-long run where they said the publisher was pulling the plug on it and not releasing more keys for that price.

Of course, it's because Amazon is so large and has such a wide customer base that they can negotiate these discounts with the promise of sales numbers. Wouldn't work so well for a smaller retailer who can't promise to bring in the wallets.

I'm not sure about more then once but most Gamefly coupons work on the entire order versus being on one items GMG style. Also from the looks of it their End of the World sale has everything from the entire sale back for today. I saw alot of good stuff in there:

ME3:11.99
Walking Dead:12.49
Rift/Expansion: 24.99/19.99
Etc and these are all Holiday20 code, so yeah

So I bought this game and started playing it today... and can't tell if I like it or not. It feels like "Skyrim Lite." The cartoony graphics, ability trees, and relatively linear landscape paths make me feel like I'm playing some Eastern F2P MMO. The dungeons so far have felt like something out of Torchlight or (I assume) Diablo. It's not bad, but it feels... weird. Incomplete, sorta.

Still, probably was worth it for $12 Smiley: grin

I haven't gotten into it but I've heard several people say it's like soloing an empty MMORPG.

That's actually a pretty good description of it, to an extent. It's a more "full" world than, say, FFXII (which I thought felt like an empty MMO a lot of the time); there are all sorts of resource nodes, exploration locations, and destroyable objects to interact with. But it definitely had that MMO feel to it, complete with the "!" to mark quests. It does feel like they didn't know if they wanted Skyrim or an MMO, so they made some weird ******* child of the two concepts. Maybe it'll shake the feeling later... but it might just get worse, ha!

The only issue I had with KoA was that it went too long, but then again, I tried to complete every side quest and DLC mission in the game. I think the game need a "nightmare" difficulty setting and another 10 or maybe even 20 more levels. As it stands, I was lv40 about halfway into the game and was left one shotting every one that stood in my way.

Also, the final boss was an even bigger disappointment than Aldouin from Skyrim.

My boss's sister worked for 38 studios & said it was basically world building for their MMO. Which is now owned by the state of RI, which as I understand it, isn't versed in game development. So we'll never get to see the payoff. But Curt Schilling lost all his money in the process, so there's that.

I think there was an article or something pointing to the would-be MMO. Probably a thread in these forums somewhere.

Lore/Story done by RA Salvatore, designs by Todd McFarlane; it could have been a thing.
