FFS: had that perfect start in Don't starve. Found this sweet area near beefalo turds, plenty of trees, tons of frogs to catch. Wandered the land and found enough gold for my science machine. Planted some crops and was going to start building my farm. Hell I even survived a tree gaurd by burning his *** with my fire.

Day 8 Hounds attacked. I fended them off well. But I waited just a bit to long to build my fire... before it would let me build one bam eaten by the grue.

F this game. Totally going to start again though. Smiley: motz

Lol, my son picked this up in the Steam Sale and has been playing. I've been hearing the same curses from him.

My longest stretch was right around 100 days, but that guy was boring because i didn't want to take any chances with him. If I had a computer atm I might be tempted to load up the game again. I've not defeated the bosses in the down below yet.

I was tempted to start scum saving, and I still might to see the rest of the game. But right now I am day 16 on the girl with the ghost sister and things are going fairly ok so I'm just sticking with it for now. :)

Finished Watch Dogs the other day. I liked it although I like the game genre as a whole and so wasn't huffy about "Like GTA but with..." I thought it had enough unique bits to set it apart in the "open world modern crime" family of games. The plot wasn't anything great and, like many of these games, felt like it went on too long. I think the issue is that the chapters are too short. You'll have a goal like "Rescue the girl from the warehouse" and to do that, you first need to hack a system in some office to get the warehouse location. Ok, fine. But then it always gets stretched with junk like "Oh, the uplink is dead so now find three satellite dishes" and "the file was encrypted so find this guy who..." blah blah blah. It starts feeling ridiculous and I really think if they just made getting through the office take three times longer it would make for a better plot than adding three contrivances just to pad game time. That's not just Watch Dogs but a general complaint about gaming these days. Anyway, I'll give it a B+. If I didn't live in the Chicago area, I'd probably give it a B.

Started playing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. It's a nicely done game, looks pretty and voiced in an appropriately Transformer-y way. Since you're still on Cybertron, everyone transforms into futuristic looking vehicles rather than semi-trailers and VW bugs. I'm not versed enough in Transformers lore to get into how "accurate" it is but it seems like if you're a fan then this should be a fun experience (so far). I'm not in love with the shooting mechanics which are serviceable but not really satisfying. I'm also not thrilled about how often it has you switch characters; in a few hours of play time I've been Bumblebee, Optimus, Cliffjumper and Jazz. Others might dig that aspect more but I like sticking with one person (or robot as the case may be).

I got War for Cybertron at some point and played it for 98 minutes. I thought for sure it looked fun but it never really grabbed me.

I'm kind of looking for something new to light a fire in my gaming desire atm. Of course non of the games I have bought on sale but never played sound enticing right now.

I have a Don't Starve guy with a nice base and I'm not really sure what I want to build next so I just quit playing. Instead I played DS2 all weekend. But my current guy in DS2 is ready to go NG + but I want to wait until the first DLC on the 22nd since I already have one toon halfway through NG+.

I played some Child of Light. It's pretty, I'm already bored with it.

I feel you on filler content or padding. In fact many people complained South Park TSOT was too short. It had some side missions and some collectables but nothing too mandatory or annoying. I finished the game in 18 hours and thought, You know what? That was just about right for the game not to lose momentum.

Help me choose:

Should I try DmC or The Darkness II tonight?

That's oddly specific.

Haven't played DmC

Darkness II was relatively fun and is short. I think my playthrough was maybe six or seven hours although I didn't hunt all the collectibles. The visuals are well done and some of the voice acting and characters are pretty close to excellent (esp. the lore/artifacts guy... Jimmy?). Game play is unique enough with the Darkness powers to set it apart -- tearing off car doors to use as shields or flinging rebar to staple to walls. By the time the gimmicks start to wear thin, the game is over anyway.

I feel ya on [X] of Cybertron. It's still fun enough right now but I don't know if I'll wind up finishing the game.

Sold! I actually read some of the Darkness books when the series was early. I don't rightly remember why he has writhing masses of tangly snake arms anymore because it's been to long. But I remember the series being fairly interesting.

I re-installed Skyrim on my new machine, and I'm trying to remember all of the mods I used (I have it through Steam, so I'm doing the mod subscriber-thingy). I have SKSE installed and a few mods for skill books and UI enhancements, but I can't remember all of the sweet graphics upgrades that are out there. Gimme your favs.

I don't have the "expansion" or the unofficial patch(es). Are those worth grabbing?

How's the new box working for you?

Falskaar is the "expansion" mod. I'm also a fan of Deadly Dragons. I didn't do much graphic modding that I can remember.

[Edit: No idea if either is available via the Steam mod thingie but you can use both that and Nexs mods without conflict]

I got back into Child of Light for a bit. It got more fun after I could fly. Then I got bored again and fired up The Darkness II. Wow, big change of pace from cutesie happy world to EAT THEIR HEARTS. In a good way. I'm diggin it so far. []

I'd go find the actual Hearthstone thread, but why bother? Paladin is popular now that Kolento hit #1 Legend with it. I'm still plodding along with basically the same deck. Ranked play gets stressful for me so I usually just play until I earn enough for an arena run. I think my deck could make Legend, maybe with a couple tweaks, but I don't think I'm dedicated enough to grind it out.

Yea, I gave up on trying to hit legend when I realized I'd have to play about 10x more frequently than I currently do. >_<

Naxx comes out July 22 (next Tuesday). To expensive for my blood (I have enough saved for one wing). Based off their projected prices.

Been playing Titan Quest which I had backlogged forever and is an old game and another entry into the whole Diablo/Torchlight ARPG loot-grind-fest game model. Having fun with it though. My "hero" spends an inordinate amount of time looting the graves of my fellow countrymen in the name of "saving" Greece and the world. Now I'm in Egypt though so my grave-robbing weighs on my conscience less.

That style of games should find a solution to the ********** all over the ground" problem.

Perhaps smaller sections with reward chests at the end instead of everything dropping stuff.

Watched a Let's Play od Diablo 3 Hardcore. Made me roll a new HC character. We'll see how far I get this time. Usually I start getting too greedy at level 60+.

I personally don't get hardcore mode for a game with that much time investment.

I just wish that your hardcore character migrated to softcore after you died.

The idea is twofold: for a lot of people, the most fun part of the game is the part before the big time investment - the leveling process and shortly after with a lot of frequent upgrades and new abilities pouring in. And then for a lot of people, the threat of true death gives the game a kind of thrill. All that time and effort you spent on this one character makes it kind of dear to you, so Hardcore mode gives everything a kind of "living on the edge" feel that a lot of people find exciting.

Yeah, softcore is just boring to me now. Hardcore makes the leveling process more interesting, since you can die and lose your progress. Crusader gets all the abilities I enjoy using by level 30 so it's not a huge investment for me to get to that point.

Why not just play SC as if it was HC?
