Agreed although the $500 pricetag is reasonable to me. That's what PS3, Xbox 360 launched at. I was honestly thinking that this gen the prices were going to go up yet again....to like $750 or something crazy. The fact that they managed to keep it around the same launch price as last time is a good thing.

THe problem is this Next gen isnt really "Next Gen" Theres no huge leap in graphics, Its more of a up/sidegrade. If you added up all their parts for a consumer you'ld be looking at around 400. That doesnt take into account the huge discounts they get from buying bulk etc. Thats the problem, You may feel comfortable at that price but for 200 bucks more Ill buy a laptop with better graphics* and is mobile

Edit: And I forgot to mention the Kinect is driving the price up too, and its a feature no one really wants. Its a tacked on gimmick, that's raising the price.

too bad we gotta wait till 6 for the ps4 presentation.

Ryse and Titanfall were both pretty awesome console exclusives, I'll give em that.

I haven't watched any trailers yet. I usually like to wait until all the shows are complete, and look at all the games together. I feel like it's easier for me to gauge what I feel about each console if I don't have a lot of time to ruminate separately.

Remember when Nintendo came to the conclusion that CD media wasn't what everyone wanted and decided to continue cartridges? Wanting it or not is irrelevant, it is the next generation of gaming whether you like it or not. Welcome to the "Get Off My Lawn" generation.

I'm a little surprised about the price (and suggestions I've heard that PS4 may retail higher due to the DDR5 memory) mainly because "Oh, PCs are so expensive" is such a stock pro-console point. A good PC for gaming ain't that much more expensive, especially if you're not counting display (no one adds in the cost of a TV to a console).

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html according to that a 730m is ~ HD6670 or GTX295. Thats not very good and certainly wont offer "better graphics*" than the consoles.

and according to http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html the cpu is on par with an amd x4 955, also likely to be far inferior to the consoles.

I would love to argue with you about it but that site i linked shows most games run on medium/high settings at 30+ FPS, which is current console numbers, In 6 months when the new consoles come out the 760m laptops and such will have come down around to around the 700 mark. The consoles coming out in a few months may have a slight advantage out of the gate but given the speed of PC growth will be quickly left in the dust. My point was its not a huge leap to get a comparable laptop for to much more. Also that was just a super quick search, Im sure if I did more research I could find a much better system. (Possibly) Im in the market for a laptop atm because my wife just broke hers last night by dropping hers a short distance.

With regards to the CBOAT leaks.

Quote:
1. Confirmed Microsoft is actively attempting to get developers to not mention PS4 versions. If they don't say "OUR GAME IS EXCLUSIVE FOR XBONE" expect a PS4 version. #truthfact

2. More DRM messaging at Gamescom. There is no rental strategy. Try to sweep it under the rug and hope people don't remember.

3. Cloud power was designed as DRM. Period. DRM was Microsoft's idea. EA and Ubisoft are supporters, Activision slightly less so.

4. DRM plans are actually worse than what they've stated.

These were not mentioned, nor were they going to be. Neither confirms nor disputes CBOAT.

Quote:
7. Secret Phil Spencer game = World of Tanks

8. Live paywall still there.

9. Dead Rising 3, and exclusive DLC for another Capcom game at MS conference.

He called all three of these. The "Secret Phil Spencer" part was in regards to this comment.

Quote:
10. No online paywall for PS4. Unconfirmed.

11. No DRM info for PS4.

Obviously have not shown the Sony presentation yet.

Quote:
5. Mirror's Edge 2 at MS conference.

6. Prince of Persia (reboot?) at MS conference.

These were the only direct claims he made which have not come true. There were however some flight delays (I'll dig up a source when NeoGAF comes back up from maintenance), so possible some extenuating circumstances? This guy has a good track record, I'd wait until after the Ubisoft and EA conferences are over before judging.

Yeah, I was really suspicious about this guy too at first, and I usually don't believe this kind of thing. However, pretty much all of reddit and NeoGAF is convinced this guy is some kind of prophet, so I'm willing to give him a chance.

Lol why would it be an Xbone exclusive? No metal gear title has ever been. In fact they've all been PS exclusives up until recently.

Because Microsoft could pay them big bucks to make it an exclusive? Thanks for the history lesson though.

Got an email from IGN to preorder Watch Dogs. $60 on PS3/360, $100 on X1/PS4.

I definitely won't be buying a new console if games are going to make that jump to $100.

Meh, I'd say you need a laptop with an i7-3630qm and a 780m to get up to the level of the new consoles. Those are expensive specs.

Laptops make a terrible example for cost-effective gaming, who knew. Smiley: tongue

Before today, the Xbone/PS4 had been listed at $600 because they were uncertain of their list prices.

I'm guessing the $100 is the same thing. I know publishers are trying to push to higher priced games, but there's no way they're going to jump to $100 just like that.

I dunno. It'd be the way to do it. A release that is still on the older consoles, so you keep the price at $60 on those. I'd do it. Set the price at $100 and see how many preorders come in at that price. Use it to gauge what the market will bear. You can always reduce the price before release if there's too much backlash.

I do not love the new art direction for the DA series. I do not love it at all. I hope it'll grow on me.

Also, I'm really bummed that they seem to have changed Morrigan's voice actress. Though, I guess the fact that this is taking place 15? years after DAO justifies her having a deeper voice. It could just be the same actress using a new inflection. You were never told Morrigan's age, but Alistair was about 20 in DAO, so it seems fair for Morrigan to be around the same at the time.

That said... Open world DA? And your choices will actively change the game environment? Hells to the f***ing yes.

Don't ***** me this time, BioWare...

No, that's definitely Claudia Black, same as last time. She used pretty much the same voice in Diablo 3 for spiderwhore boss.

I dunno, I kind of like the new art style. I certainly like it better than 2's.

Dragon Age already broke my heart once. I'll buy it after been out and I can judge community reaction. Unless I find something silly like a $20 Nvidia promo offer or something.

To be honest, I liked DA2. A lot. I loved the characters. The combat, environments, and plot weren't nearly as good as DAO, true. But I really, really love the characters.

And the art style is already growing on me, oddly enough. I think it was probably just an adverse reaction to how different it was.

And Morrigan coming back <3

Though people are already wondering if due to the deeper voice that sounds more like Flemeth, the Flemeth-esque grin, etc., if it actually IS Flemeth in Morrigan's body. Though people who have read the Stolen Grove comics are justifiably dubious.

Yeah, I'm really, really excited right now. I have no idea why this was such a delayed reaction, but I'm positively giddy.

I was planning a new DAO run-through... I'm staying at my sister's for the next week and a half to cat-sit. I know what I'm doing now.

So uh...

Where's the television coverage of E3? I thought G4 and SpikeTV always aired coverage of the events. So far I see nothing on the guides. I'll be bummed out if I have to watch live streams on my computer to get all this information, and being unable to DVR them for when I get home and can watch recordings without having to find out where I can view things online.
