HI, fellow gamers!

I just want to warn everyone about Electronic Arts new racing car game -- Real Racing 3 for the iphone. It is free to start but they really get you to buy upgrades without realizing how much you are spending. My dear hubby spent over $1000 without realizing it just by fixing up his cool cars and getting new ones. If you play games like this be very careful of the in-game charges. They are so subtle that you don't realize just how much you are spending.

So true ---- Buyer Beware!

I'm just going to consider this one a mechanism of natural selection.

I don't play any pay to win games. I have yet to find one that isn't 100% pure fail.

Yeah, I generally avoid games with cash shops attached to them. Of course, being on Android, I have an assortment of PC/Android games from the Humble Bundles that are complete game experiences without being pestered for cash or advertising or needing to buy a new gun for 450 coins ($2.50) if I want any hope of winning.

One decent exception -- I bought Knights of Pen & Paper without knowing it had RMT (I guess IAP is the proper term these days) capability but was pleased that I never came close to needing it. The entire game was playable and winnable without spending a dime outside the initial game cost (which was 25¢ on a Google Play sale).

Loadout is kind of pay to win, and it's pretty fun. It's just really slow going if you don't spend real money, but it's not necessary.

The really smart hook is to start a game off with skill based progression, so a user can progress based on skill rather than money. Then you ramp up the difficulty and hit them with the p2w wall once you have the barb set.

I've never paid for anything in a mobile game (sans possibly buying the mobile game itself, which I almost never do anyway).

But I also almost never use my phone for gaming. My battery is crappy enough without wasting it on that. I love everything else, but holy hell does it go fast. (Galaxy Nexus, btw).

My Droid 2 Global gets superhot if I try to run any modern mobile games that happen to be able to run on it.

I may be getting a new plan soon, so I might just go ahead and get a new phone at the same time. Haven't decided. Would obviously be cheaper to keep this phone, and it's only a year old. But I definitely wouldn't mind something that dies if I check my email.

Of course, on the other hand, anything I buy through Verizon directly is going to force me into their crappy update schedule. Would rather buy an S4 or Nexus 4 directly from Google. Which would lose me a contract discount anyway.

I play mobile games on my tablet, mainly. The only stuff I play on my phone is solitaire and mahjong. I've no idea how people can play arcade style games on that size of a screen, especially with touch controls.

I have one of these that I got for free but it's not especially comfortable and the sticks feel unresponsive. Plus I usually have my phone with me but don't generally carry the controller around.

I think I'm going to wait for the Nexus 5 or whatever; it's supposed to come out late this year.

My phone is where I read Zam, NYT, and various fora so I can play real games at home.
