Effective immediately. Woo hoo.

Pretty great. Now it's the same price as the 3DS XL. Granted, the 3DS has a better lineup of games, but the Vita's been getting better, and sales will only boost that further. Plus PS4 synergy.

Plus, plus, Persona! Woo hoo!

[EDIT]

And here's a video of a Vita streaming a PS4 AC game.

I wouldn't expect that at launch. They're guaranteed to sell all of those units, so it's better to sell Vitas with that inertia.

The bundle will come once Vita and/or PS4 sales start to droop.

Dropping the price of the Vita just made it more accessible for people in the mobile market, but not in the PS4 market, and it also makes it far more likely people in the PS4 market will want into the Vita market.

It's also going to have a smaller relationship in selling PS4s - people with Vitas (now or later), who were on the fence about a PS4 might be more willing to purchase the machine if it means they can vastly expand their game line-up when on wifi (though it remains to be seen if this is exclusively local wifi or not).

Either way, I wouldn't expect a bundle until we're at, say, the halfway point to them releasing their first v2.0 or slim version.

Completely subjective. I'm super excited for Rune Factory 4 soon. Can I play Lumines on 3DS? They're both amazing systems. IMO, Vita edges out my 3DS for play time.

EDIT: AND STARBOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just remembered that. Game looks like Terraria on steroids.

It's not subjective when we're talking about a market trend, which is clearly what we're doing. I don't care what console has the better lineup for an individual gamer, I care about which system has the better lineup relative to the market. Right now, that is easily the 3DS. The Vita has some amazing gems, like Gravity Rush (and obviously Persona 4).

But the 3DS has the much more substantial library of quality games. Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Shin Megami, the Nintendo IPs, Monster Hunter, etc.

The Vita's is getting better, and very quickly, but it's obviously not at the point where it's matching the 3DS from a market perspective. Particularly not with the major Pokemon/Zelda releases the 3DS has coming up.

I think it's also worth asking if what you're currently playing is a fair assessment of a console's lineup. A new player has access to all of those titles for the first time, so anything you've exhausted already still take their time. If I was walking into the purchase, right now, with no attention paid to the PS4, the 3DS would present the better lineup, overall.

If I was approaching them as a new player a year from now, the gap made by time would have already closed a lot, and it would be a different story.

Oh yeah, and the PS3 is $200 now, too, for a 12gb model.

Too expensive considering there have been 500GB bundles with a free game and 1 month of PS+ for $230 this past month.

I'm more imagining that this is their way of setting up more substantial bundles. They might end up bundling the PS3 and the Vita, for instance, to push their PS3 sales higher in preparation for the PS4 launch. Wouldn't be surprised.

This.

I am still working through the gobs of awesome games I have on my 3DS (which includes virtual console/DS games I never got to) and I expect when pokemon X/Y comes out in October that will further eat into any gaming time I have.

I wish the 3DS played nicer with the indies - like it feels like games like the penny arcade games etc should be on the eshop for 3DS because they would look and play awesome on the device... but there are so many quality games available for the system (especially with backward compatibility) I can't complain too much.

If Vita had disc-based backwards compatibility or a trade in discs for digital copy program I would own one already. Not interested in rebuying my library of PSP games to play on it though, especially with the super expensive memory cards.

If they did a vita only version of FF type 0 I would consider getting one (after the reviews anyway!)

but persona 4, if I really wanted to play I have a PS2 and it is not expensive to get on ebay. Already have FF 10 that I have not bothered to play yet.

P4 is a PS4 title, no? I thought it was. And the price of memory cards are coming down more.

Also, Walmart is selling a 3G Vita with a year of plus, a 4gb card, a stand, and Unit 13 for $200. That's about $100 off, if you would want the game and plus.

There may be a re-release but Persona 4 was released for the current gen already along with Persona 4 Arena.

Confirmed that it's US only, cause 'Murica-mart. Also it's sold out online.

Almost zero chance it would have been sold out at my local Walmart. On the other hand, that means I need to break my "NEVER go to that WalMart ever again" rule...

New, slim model announced for a Japanese release, and there's nothing about it not to like.

Linky.

1GB internal memory, 15% lighter, 25% slimmer, multiple color options, same price.

I'm not a huge fan of the actual color options, but black and white both look solid.

Also, they have a FFX-themed one, Gundam-themed one (that comes with Gundam figures or something), and a God Eater 2 one. I really want the Gundam one, but not enough to pay $60 more (as it is part of a bundle, unlike the other two).

Oh yeah, and they revealed Vita TV. Essentially, it lets you play Vita games that don't require touch inputs with a dualshock controller on your TV (no Vita required). And in the future, it can be used for remote play on the PS4. That way, you can keep your PS4 in your main room, but still play on other TVs when it's taken. $100, though.

I have to say, I really like what Sony is doing here. They're really making it easier to enjoy your games.

Now if they'd just release some actual games to enjoy.

And the whole PS4 thing makes me laugh. $400 to make the $200 item worthwhile. That's great, my WiiU does the same thing for like half the price, right out of the box.

I've been thinking of grabbing another Vita at the new price and turning my old one into a portable emulator to replace my PSP. Then I remember that I have 128 GB of storage on my PSP, and **** the Vita's insane proprietary memory cost.

Vita TV seems pretty neat, since I have all these games I'm getting from PS+ with no console to enjoy them on.

Well the Vita TV setup seems to be in direct competition with remote play on the Vita. So unless you actually want the mobile portion, it's not necessary, I guess?

That at least saves you $100.

My hope is that this serious investment in their hardware is being matched by serious wallet-padding for design studios to get some games made. Either way, the system has to be a lot more attractive now. $100 for the console to play the game, if they're careful with their command options? That should motivate some developers.

Yeah. The biggest problem with the Vita isn't the price. It's the lack of games.

I'd buy one of the new Vita models if they'd finally break down and include at least 32GB of on board memory. The added cost of manufacturing it would be negligible. They probably won't though, since then they wouldn't have nearly as many people overpaying for their goddamn proprietary memory cards.
