All 16 of them. Holy crap.

All a marketing gimmick, but it's a pro-consumer marketing gimmick. Damn. Me-likey.

Thats the way it should be,charging for pre-planned DLC release is just lame.Take destiny for example decent fun game but no content got boring fast, and yet they are sitting on 2 expac DLCs. And they are going to charge you for them. GTAV got it right they have released a ton of stuff for free since release. I dont care for what the COD franchise does either with release of map packs and charging you for them(but i think i understand that a little).

Big Kudos for Withcer!!

Normally I'd agree, but CD Projekt Red is pretty good to their customers, so I can see this being done from a genuine desire to not ***** over their fans.

In the world we live in, a genuine desire not to **** over your fans is a marketing gimmick. Smiley: laugh

Witcher 3 system specs announced. Youch.

Minimum System Requirements
Intel CPU Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660
AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870
RAM 6GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB

Recommended System Requirements
Intel CPU Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz
AMD CPU AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 770
AMD GPU Radeon R9 290
RAM 8GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB

Although I have a suspicion that this might be like Shadow of Mordor where the "required" specs were rather over-inflated in practice.

You would be better off waiting for a deal for those cards in which you get the game for free.

My card is okay (Radeon 7950 3GB) but my processor is technically below minimum (i7-860 OC'd to 3.6 GHz). I'm not especially worried about not being able to play but I bought the game for cheap off some Russians so if worst came to worst I'd just have to backlog it until I upgraded.

My graphics card is a bit below spec, but I'll still be able to play it, just not on ultra.

My 670Ti played Shadow of Mordor and DA: I just fine on high if not ultra. It will most likely be due to some ubersampling thing you can disable, like in Witcher 2 but play the rest High or above.

I'm still tempted to get a new vidcard someday soon just because it feels like time. I like new stuff.

Yeah, that's a little above my specs. Then again, I was psyched to realize that my comp is above minimums for DA: I.

Some time this year I should get a new motherboard/processor just because my 1156 is a technological dead end. Plus it gives me an excuse to use my existing MB/CPU to make a new computer and that's always fun.

Yeah when the mobo, bus, and cpu become the bottleneck and no more ram or or vidcards will help is usually when I rebuild. But my cycle usually means I keep the vid card which is newer, then replace the mobo, ram and CPU. My tower and power supply/fans/cooling set up has been fine for 3 builds now. So it's not really that expensive, considering I already have lots of storage and fast SSDs as well.

I'm on the vid card phase atm. But barely really.

Good news! I found a reasonably priced card that would meet the recommended requirements.

Don't you have 4 months or so until it comes out? That like a lifetime or two in graphics cards. Trying to buy something cheap now just play it would end up being a waste.

You did not click the link did you? ;)

That comic is great as well. I'm going for 3 skynets.

I did. It was a 600 dollar Radeon card. I know little about Radeon so I cannot say with much accuracy where it sits in the current Generation graphics cards. The last I bought was a GTX 580 a couple years back.

Correction, it was a $1,000 Radeon card that was on sale for $700. And I didn't buy it.

It's the current best card you can get. It's stupidly overpowered and completely impractical for the vast majority of people. There are zero games that that card is needed for. There are a few non-gaming applications, but not many.

(1) Say you're going to give all DLC for free
(2) Sell "Expansions" instead of DLC
(3) Profit!

Quote:
CD PROJEKT RED, creators of the open world RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, announce two massive expansions -- Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine

The Witcher is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game, set in a visually stunning fantasy universe full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. In The Witcher, you play as Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer tasked with finding a child from an ancient prophecy.

“With the development of Wild Hunt coming to an end, the team has embarked upon the creation of two new really big adventures set in The Witcher universe,” says Marcin Iwiński, CD PROJEKT RED co-founder. “We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. We’ve said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for the money. Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there.”

Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new, 10-hour-plus adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.

Blood and Wine, a 20-hour-plus tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.

“While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call,” Iwiński concludes.

The upcoming expansions will offer gamers new adventures, gear and foes and will feature characters both new and dearly missed -- all crafted with maximum attention to detail and quality by the joint forces of CD PROJEKT RED’s Warsaw and Cracow studios.

Hearts of Stone will premiere in October, while Blood and Wine is slated for release in the first quarter of 2016.

Both expansions will be available on all three platforms: Xbox One, PC, PlayStation® 4.

For more information on obtaining the expansions, please visit buy.thewitcher.com

Ultimately, I can't begrudge them wanting to release additional content and charging for it as long as it's good quality and not something cut from the base game as a money grab. I bought a number of expansions back in the day when they all came on discs and these do seem to offer as much or more content than many base games nowadays. As long as they're not priced the same as a full game(I think BW cost 2/3rds of the original game's price), I can deal with it.

That said, it does seem a bit disingenuous of them after the DLC announcement.

I don't really care, so much, as I got a good smirk out of it.

I'll personally play it at launch, be done before the first "expansion" comes out and likely never return to it because that's how I wind up playing all those games. Still never played the Bioshock Infinite or Metro: Last Light DLC content, for instance, despite enjoying both base games.

*edit to say you should Play Burial at Sea Joph. I went back and played it like a year after I forgot I owned it and it was lots of fun.

Seriously, Burial at Sea is DLC done right. Decent length, new areas, new toys, a different approach to combat (when playing as Elizabeth), and the storyline not only compliments the main game's story, but wraps up the whole series in a fairly satisfying way.

As to the Witcher stuff, if it's even half as good as it looks like it's going to be, I won't begrudge them selling some additional content. Especially considering that they give a 20% discount for having the first two games. Seriously, what other company does that?
