I agree last really good FF game was Final Fantasy X. Almost all of the FF games prior to X were good, at least for their era.

Yea but that was last week. I think we're suppose to have this discussion once a week in case that dead horse comes alive again... then we would have zombie horse apocalypse and we don't want that.

No, I liked it too. It was cute, and silly and fun. Definitely not the typical FF game, but I still enjoyed it. I agree that FF12 was pretty much crap, but I rather enjoyed 13.

First Final Fantasy game I ever beat. But... that was mostly because it was so short and I didn't realize the last boss was actually the last boss. Every other FF game I get to the last boss, have trouble beating him, and figure, "Meh, I've seen the whole game. I can figure it out from here."

I haven't played much of 13. I watched my husband played it and decided that if I wanted to watch a Final Fantasy movie, I'll rent it.

First one I didn't finish. Smiley: tongue

In fact, I didn't get more than a half hour into it. Just didn't appeal to me in any way, shape, or form.

That happened to me in 12. I beat what turned out to be the last boss, thinking that there had to be more because there were still so many loose threads in the story. What a surprise it was to see the credits rolling.

Sorry, I didn't care for FFX-2 either. I also didn't care for X much - it felt very constricted compared to other games. But X-2? Mini-games galore! That said, it wasn't terrible by any means. I just beat it once and never played it again.

Now, I'm weird because I actually liked FFXII. Ok, no, I hated the story - when I heard it was set in Ivalice, the same as Tactics, I was overjoyed. Tactics still remains as one of my favorite FF games because it had the best story (if you're into politics and intrigue, which I love). Then to find out the story was terrible? Ugh. Every other Final Fantasy had characters who are someone integral to the plot somehow:

6, you're part of a resistance group including a former general, a king, the world's best gambler, a half-Esper, etc..
7, you're a super SOLDIER and part of a resistance group. Also, one of your members is the last member of a super powerful race.
8, You're trained as elite mercenaries, and share a connection with the witch.
9, Main character is an alien whose purpose is actually to help destroy the world, love interest is a princess.
10, you're from the past and affect the future (present?). Your dad is also destroying the world.
12: I WANNA BE SKY PIRATE, SO TAKE ME AND MY FRIEND ALTHOUGH WE HAVE NO REDEEMING QUALITIES!

Come the end of the game, all I could think is that if Vann and Penelo were not part of the group, the story would be SO much better. Make Ashe the main character and we could actually start somewhere interesting. Then there was the linear storyline, the lack of surprises, the loose ends, ugh!

Now that I've ranted, I loved the combat compared to every other game. The ONLY issue I had was the 1 second delay when you go to fight... but it still beats the swirly screen random encounters.

As for FFXIII, I only played the first 20 hours and then fought the end boss. I avoided pretty much every battle, and probably saw about 1/2 of the game (according to my friend, whose game I was using), and I feel like I missed nothing. Didn't care for it. It looked pretty, but had no substance to it from what I saw. And I wanted Australian girl to die. SOOOO badly.

FFX-2 would have been better without the Final Fantasy name attached. Then again, I pretty much believe the Final Fantasy name should have been retired like fifteen years ago.
