...just asking for some common courtesy.Follow

I'm new to a game that doesn't even tell you how to do things or what things are for until 10-15 minutes AFTER you need to start knowing how to do things. I'm new to a game where everyone's bazaar that I've seen seems to take for granted that nearly everyone in the game is rich and above level 20. I'm new to a game where many people are kneeling and crafting but if someone asks for directions or a little verbal assistance, they're presented with silence or "Everything in the game is made, buy from a player" or "There's npcs with lol goods. go to a market district" and my map shows no market district :/

I'm kind of looking for the helpful warmth I saw when FFXI launched or that I recieve in most other rp communities. Not looking for handouts or anything.. just please, keep in mind that new players DO come to this game. Show some welcome and courtesy, please?

This game does require some learning outside the game to get ahold of things. Zam's a good place to look.
New Player Guide
Fishing Guide, if you so wish
Retainers Guide
Crafting Guide
Market Wards Guide

Then there are the posts concerning the server. The best way to learn and meet people is to join a linkshell. There is a stickied list at the top of the Besaid forums: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=197&mid=1284223399180969879&page=1

Plus a Besaid starters guide at

Welcome to the server :)

I feel ya man
but unfortunately alot of newer games will have this attitude

there are those of us who try to help others, but unfortunately, for every 100 people I personaly help, the one i dont, is the only one that ever gets noticed and makes a big deal out of it.

there are alot of good people in the game if you really look around and ask

I'm sorry you've gotten this kind of experience, Licki! But please don't let this be your first impression.

I started on Rabanastre (because that's where some of my friends wanted to play), and got the big cold shoulder and a lot of rudeness. I then came to Besaid and found the community to be like night and day. People were generally talkative, friendly and helpful. I'm sorry that you have yet to see this side of Besaid, but I promise you there is a good community here.

Part of the issue right now is that things are a little quiet until some of the upcoming changes are implemented. Plus, when people are crafting, they have to stare at that colored orb. It can be difficult to pay attention to the chat log when you're in the middle of a synth.

If you're looking for a LS to call home, I would recommend browsing the Besaid linkshell list.

Welcome to Besaid and I hope you'll give us a chance to offer you a place to call home. =)

Between looking at the orb, synth log, durability and available actions there isn't much I usually pay atention to, even LS chat. If you take into consoderation thta some people might actually using facilities which are on a timer then people might not have the time to spend on a lengthy conversation.

I would advise to have patience and maybe take your quetsions to areas where people gather to RP, if you stay in character there is a good chance some good sould will help you out.

I do. And so do a lot of people. Not paying attention to color and to the progress bar makes for lazy crafters. =P

when battlecrafting you can die
so the comparison doesnt work unless they somehow changed it so your synths can jump out and attack you

Not to mention the pesky chat log resets that you get with every completed synth step, so there's not much possible to do mid-craft other than grunt. :\ (I'd love to be able to hold a conversation while I work, but at least for now that's not really possible. :( )

You could always blow ten minutes of your time to stop the synth, emote, then start the synth back up

This just shows that some people here don't synth and end up not understanding how interrupting a synth to emote or to give directions can cause a loss of more than just ten minutes.

The synth steps no longer reset the chat logs. The UI windows can, but at that point you're usually hitting a bunch of buttons. Anyways, if the UI resets the chat log, reopen the chat and hit the up arrow.

Between the time it takes you to gothrough Weakened and be ready to fight and stop crafting, doing the repair and to back to crafting again, even if you dont need to get more support ... you probbaly take less time and effort just waitting for weakened to go and runing to camp.
