Since the patch with the new "Repair" sign besides the character's name I have gone out of my way to look into the Mender's Wards of the towns I'm in to see if there is anyone that might need repair for either ARM, LW or WVR which I might be able to offer. Since then I've noticed that there are quite a number of people just putting up repairs for 1000G or less when the mats required to do them are sold by NPCs at a cost supperior to the one offered.

This week I've decided that is people don't reward mine and other crafter's efforts to repair stuff then they just don't deserve to have their stuff repaired. As such I would just like let whomever might be interested that I'm stopping any repairs for under 2000gil and promoting the same action within the Ls I'm part of.

Just so people dont think I'm being too greedy here are some prices of mats I've noticed being needed for repairs at 1000 Gil or less:

Canvas Fent: 1200 Gil
Velveteen Fent: 1680 Gil
Buffalo Leather Spetch: 1600 Gil
Iron Square: 1200 Gil

Gil is so inflated right now you are selling yourself short considerably imo.

My rates are:

R1-10: 500
R11-20: 3,000
R21-30: 5,000
R31-40: 7,000
R41-50: 10,000

Less than a tenth of what they would have to pay npc to fix at 75%. I don't give them a second look otherwise.

If you want someone to blame for people tossing 1,000 repairs, blame the crafters that do it for that much. They have "Don't feed the bears" signs for a reason XD

ive given up on repairing anything for less then 5000 period

and yeah, i blame the crafters who repair stuff dirt cheap at a loss for the way people are
the other people to blame are those who feel entitled to cheaper repairs at a loss to the crafter, cuz ALOT of people are like that too

No one expects to pay NPC price from a player. In my mind, the NPC prices are just there to prevent inflation beyond a certain point. I generally wont repair anything for less than 1k, but that's arbitrary.

Well, I think if you need something repaired you should 1st have a look how much the item to repair actually costs.

For example, I don't offer more than 1000gil to have my cotton gear fixed because I know cotton fents grow in trees (having lvld Weaver to 21 on my other character) - same goes with my sheepleather shoes and other stuff I know is very cheap to fix.
I won't pay more than 1k - if you don't want to fix it for me for 1k, then don't - I will eventually give up and fix it at the repair guy if no one wants to fix it for me.

However... just the other day I needed to have my belt fixed and I needed buffalo leather spetch for it. I know leatherworker can make these spetches for almost free as well (since buffalo leather and hide is reward from some leves) but I always go with the price that I find from NPCs - if I remember correct the NPC price is about 2k (or a bit less). For this item I usually offer 3k to be repaired... or for boar leather I offer 4-5k for a repair.

Common sense goes long way at least for me :)

I agree with your pricings in these specific items but I would like to disagree with the bolded statement.

Just because you get something as a leve reward doesnt mean it's free, you can always use these (repair) mats to synth somehting else than can give you better SP or Gil. You also dont see people offering Moth-Eaten Senechal (sp) for free just because their leve rewards ^^

That's true but the bold part wasnt the end of my sentence - I finished off saying that EVENTHOUGH it is a leve reward I pay more since the item would cost more to buy from NPC...

And don't you have some calls to take Hugus? ;P

I'll be honest, more often than not the issue is that if is isn't one of the following:

*Canvas Fent
*Velveteen Fent
*Iron Nuggets
*Iron Square
*Brass Nugget
*Bronze Nugget
*Dodo spetch
*Buffalo spetch

Then th odds are, I just dont have the material to prform your repair. Granted, I could craft a box of 3 ring to repair your scale mail - but what exactly am I to do with the ther 31? XD

I only have two guidelines when it comes to seeking repairs...

If my damaged gear is rank 15 and below, I offer 5k. If it's rank 16 and above, it's 10k.

If you think I'm crazy, I actually used to offer 20, 000 gils before for rank 20-30 gears!

The fact is, if you are regularly playing the game, and have reached a point where you earn 100k a levequest cycle (or more), then you have no reason to offer less than 5k for other players. Maybe, if you have a rank 6 gear, then sure. You can get away with 1 or 2k. But how would adding an additional 3k would hurt you?

People just need to stop being so selfish and share what they have.

This is actually a really informative, helpful post for everyone. ^_^b

I have been tossing things up for repairs at 3000-3500 because I had no idea how much the going rate is for repairs, but I wanted to pay more than the cost of the mats. I generally repair items for guildmates for free, myself, and I haven't been paying much attention to how much people offer for my armory repairs. Now I know to bump my offers up a few thousand, so thanks!

I would NEVER offer 5k for someone to fix my sheepskin shoes which cost like 500gil to repair at the NPC... I think that is just stupid.
I get that repaipers need the gil too but it all needs to be in porpotion or there will never be nothing but chaos in the world lol.
Good for you if you can afford to splash your bling bling around but I craft, mine, kill and my stuff gets broken all the time. I buy crafting materials and I actually have never in the lifespam of my character been over 1mil gil.

Maybe one day when I am rich like you I can start my own little kingdom or something, but I will still stick to the cost of material from NPC plus a tip that is appropriate to the level of the item.

And just FYI, that has nothing to do about being selfish, it's just using currency just like you would in real life. I don't go to a restaurant and pay £1000 for a meal that would cost £50. I would pay for the meal and then leave a tip for the waitress for her services... not £1000 but appropriate amount for how much my meal was worth.

I generally toss stuff up for 1000/2000. Since I am a miner/blacksmith, I sorta assume people's wholesale costs however, not as though they are buying mats in the wards full price. Now I have some piests cesti's broken, and they are up for 7000. So it does depends on level of item/skill needed to repair/and costs of mats. Hell, maybe that is too low, but who knows havent researched it (and i have 2 pairs).

I have seen people offering 1 each shard, or the notorious 1 gil! Amongst friends its ok for sure, but amongst strangers I just dont do it! (Except for maybe Mamba/Hugus/EliBear?)

/Cheers, RP

Look for my friend Gadhelyn Appledore. He leads a LS called Crafter Consortium. There hasn't been a whole lot of activity on the shell's website lately, but the link is in my sig.

I'm aware of the crafter's consortium but whether for lack of intrest or any other reason it seems that it didnt really gather the ammount ofn people needed to make it a place where crafters could join and exchange mats and such.

Even without that express target I think that Vagrants Requiem has got a larger, more active number of crafters to help each other.
