Hello Wutai!

We're too quiet in this forum thought I'd just make some noise. What are people on wuati enjoying most at the moment? I'm mining a lot but I hit surplus D: not impressed. Quite like the quests and the building up of the story at the moment.

Also Happy Friday

I see ya'll looking at my thread, go on, dont be scared say hi

Haha, I was thinking about this just last week myself.
The Wutai board is always so quiet...

I've been doing leve groups, NM hunts and the occasional crafting (usually while waiting on Behests).

Trying to get PUG to 50, no rush though. Working on the other melee classes as well. Trying to get GLA to 20ish, then I'll focus on one of them and make that a legit alternate class. I don't think I have the patience to try and level GLA, MRD, LNC, and ARC simultaneously.

yay a reply!

Yeah I had some good fun recently fighting NMs did cactuar jack a couple times and the ones in cass.

No rush to 50 but I'm grinding out those mining ranks a bit

I like mining, really helps keep grinding costs down for my BSM and GLD. I think I'm at the point though where I need to get my mining a bit higher to stay on par with the mats I need though.
I've been trying to make myself do botony more for that skill you told me about, just haven't been able to do it.
I like mining too much :-)

ah yes, sweat of brow. I hated botany so much, dont know why, back to mining now <3 I'm putting some results on our LS forum for how much extra sp I get. See if it is worthwhile for you

Hi ya, I agree this forums is nice : ). I really like Botany :P, but I haven't had enough time to try out other skills much . . . at all. Last thing I did was walk all the way to camp glory, kinda scary knowing that a arbor squirrel could eat me in one gulp.

Everyone around Gridania is super quiet >_<

yeah Gridania is quiet generally, not many people. It does feel like home to me though :)

It is... but its the music that makes me feel at home, I felt the same in Windhurst.

Anyway, I have some business in Gridania, I was thinking should I move my retainers there or perhaps one... thinking about the implications longer term I decided no. But can't we call retainers whenever we like now? So why not move them there while I'm in Grid? Then call them back when I go back to Uldah or move them to LL to for a time while I do something there?

Would this help other people or would I simply be shooting myself in the foot by not leaving them in Uldah?

Any thoughts?

I think it amounts to a roll of the dice Metin, regarding your retainer placement.

I think you'd have a greater opportunity to "own the market" (not price gouge, but perhaps be the only one selling certain things) on some items in Grid and LL, but at the same time I think the amount of traffic to the wards in Grid and LL is much less than Ul'Dah. So while you might be the only seller for some stuff would anyone just happen to be there when your retainer is there to make the purchase? You could leave your retainers in LL or Grid for a longer period, but as you mentioned in your post... would that be shooting yourself in the foot. I think it would be.
I mean if you could market the "Metin" brand or establish rapport with the player base and be known as the guy to buy "xxx" from consistently at a good price, then I suppose you could potentially draw customers to you wherever you put your retainers. Unfortunately in this game I don't think it's gonna happen like that. Word of mouth or spamming shouts is about the only form of advertisement you're going to be able to get. Start spamming shouts, and I'd think you'd end up on everyone's blist regardless of how good a deal you were selling stuff for.

Ul'Dah on the other hand is all about undercutting or buying out the competition in my opinion. There are far more items for sale in the Ul'Dah wards- both in quantity and variety. Somehow over time Ul'Dah has just become the main hub for everyone (probably because of BW and Hala leve grinds) so you will have tons of exposure to potential buyers there, but your stuff is most likely going to sell slow unless you happen to be the only one selling something, or you undercut. I don't support price inflation by buying out the competition and jacking up the price with you being the only seller, but undercutting is sucky too. Someone who crafts their stuff and sells for a fair price is prone to poor sales due to impatient people just wanting to move an item right now. You could make the argument that the undercutting like that is just here and there and that the crafters will be there more consistently so in the end they won't be hurt by it... but still at some point undercutting by ridciulous amounts hurts the crafters trying to establish a steady and fair market price.

Gridania has had a pretty limited market in the last week. I don't know how it was before as I just created my character on Monday. I have seen a few people selling high level equipment, but not all that often. So far as people specializing in what they sell there seem to be more weavers selling then anyone else. Most just sell a random mix.

I found I actually have rather a lot to do in Grid so I have moved my retainers there, no big loss if I sell nothing, I have enough Gil from mining...

T_T I have started to get the error 30002 message and can't stay logged in. I have tried everything on SE's support website and some other things but so far I'm still getting the error message. Funny how it took a week before it started.

T_T may start FFXI if this keeps up

Thats strange, I dont get any connection problems anymore... hope you get back on soon.

Gridania was a little busier than I expected good to see people running around... still quiet though. Quests were fun. There's a follow up quest to the one where you retrieve the diary pages out by quarrymill which made me chuckle

lol I haven't had any connection issues now so maybe I fixed it somehow :/ (hopefully I don't jinx myself). Randomly ran into acid overdose outside of Ul'dah (all I got was a hi T_T no love).

I'm sorry! iirc I was running to do leves in our static, and the name didn't ring a bell! You didn't say anything back so I just left it at that =)

Next time I will know better ^^

You ran too fast lol, it said you were out of reach. I'm so happy I have had no connection issues even when running background programs ^_^. I must say that Ul'dah is completely different then Gridania, so much more populated!

following a previous note, my retainers did make some money, around 150k worth of stuff, I think I may have had more if I left them in Uldah but I'm certainly not complaining...

It might be a point to think about. Dont be afraid to move your retainers around more now that you can do so more freely :D
#21 May 19 2011 at 12:19 AM Rating: Decent
Jeez, in total I have yet to even sell that much.

sssshhhh! :P

To answer your question acid I had them there a few days. I considered officially upping sticks to gridania but I'll wait for Grand Companies at least ^^
#25 Jun 03 2011 at 10:16 AM Rating: Decent
So you'll be a diehard Gridanian huh? =)

I started in LL, but have operated out of Ul'Dah these past few months and really only travel elsewhere now out of quest and/or guild support necessity.

Gotta say I'm excited fo Grand Companies, battle updates and the materia system. I sure hope they're all cool and work well out of the gate. I'd sure hate for them to release new stuff and systems only to take another half year to tweak them into working properly! ^^

There'll always be tweaking, people who hate it and people who like it... but yeah in the future I can see myself based out of gridania
