Same boat.

My mom's side of the family and my dad's both do things separately, so I end up going over to my mom's for a giant Thanksgiving lunch, then end up heading over to my dad's mom's for a giant Thanksgiving dinner.

and I still found myself munching on leftovers. Smiley: glare

You guys and your thanksgiving.

I think the only holiday here where people get an excuse to eat like fat horses is christmas.
It's an ''excuse'' to even get up and eat at night.
Shocking.
I eat when I feel like it all round the year.

My Aussie guild leader was talking about how much bullsh*t he thinks it is that Americans get a few days off to gorge themselves, when, in his words we gorge ourselves every day anyways.

Tell him it's not too late to invite the aborigines to dinner.

The tradition has to start somewhere.

I thought you only get one day off because of thanksgiving.
Also, my girlfriend was talking to a guy from the States, and his work for that day was cancelled due to snow.
That's something that's hard for a nordic man to understand.

In theory, yes. In practice, assuming you don't work in retail or some kind of job that stays open over the weekends, you can generally expect to get that Friday off as well.

My work here is done. Oh and there are much more terrifying devices, it's just that you wouldn't have googled ballcrusher or whatever those things are called. Smiley: tongue

GTFO, AETH! Smiley: mad

What's Thanksgiving? The holiday where you guys celebrate that you enslaved an entire continent and raped it of all its resources?

You so silly.

Date sort of thing, I have a lovely lady coming over Sunday evening/Monday. Fun times ahead.
Other than that, my sister and her boyfriend are visiting me Sunday morning/early afternoon to look at my awesome kitty.

Also guys, I'm looking for Metal covers of old rock/pop songs.
So far I've got Ministry - Roadhouse Blues (The Doors)

The Black Dahlia Murder - Paint It Black

And Turmion Kätilöt - Stormbringer (Deep Purple)

Edited to add: Dikke Dennis & The Spades - Ich Bin Wie Du (Marianne Rosenberg)

It's going to be for a joke gift for my dad so they have to be songs he'll recognize (just played in a way he'll hate)

I heard someone called Amyst made a screamo cover of one of Adele's songs. Does that count?

Soudcs cool Aeth and Maz :)

Hm, I don't know metal covers of songs, but I know other kinds of covers of old songs.
Only one that comes to mind is Kotiteollisuus-Pandemonium (Killing Joke), but it's in finnish of course, and I'm not sure whether your dad would like to hear that.

The story goes that the Pilgrims came over from England and were all, "Derp, we don't know how to survive here."

So the local Native Americans took pity on those poor, retarded white people and helped them grow food to survive the winter. But before the winter they had a big harvest festival with the Native Americans as guests, a.k.a. the first Thanksgiving.

Later on, we rewarded them with Smallpox, breaking treaties, and taking all their land and forcing them onto Oklahoma, the definition of "crappy place to live"

Home as in my mum's. At least they have a good Islamic shop there to buy brooches and stuff. I'm trying to figure out how to tell my mum that I won't buy any meat that hasn't come from a Turkish or Pakistani shop for Christmas and that I will insist on buying it myself. I might just opt for telling her that I'm temporarily vegetarian or something... I don't know.

Did my nails, just trying to find a camera because they turned out pretty awesome.

And working retail on "that Friday" must be pretty... intense.

I'm pretty sure I worked on Black Friday when I worked at a department store when I lived in Oklahoma. I don't really remember it though, so it must have either been uneventful or so traumatizing I've blocked it out.
