I am level 16 and did my first dungeon tonight, RFC. I ran out of mana pretty quickly and got lucky that we finished. Can anyone give me tips on healing? I already use healbot, or is there another addon to use? Second, I use Discipline, but I think I will just do dungeons for a long time. Would it be better to go holy? The only thing I worry about that is even though your healing goes up 15%, I lose the 15% mana boost from Discipline and the spell Pentance. But if I just dungeon run for the next 20-30 levels is holy better? Thank you.

Penance is godlike at low levels, so definitely stay Discipline.

The reason you ran out of mana so fast is because that's what happens at low levels. Don't fret, your ability to preserve mana goes up as you level up and gain access to better gear and talents. Just tell the tanks to slow down so you can drink between fights if needed.

Like tanking, healing doesn't really shine until the late 20's, in my opinion. Discipline becomes a force of unstoppable win once you gain access to the talent called Atonement (level 29 at the earliest). This talent allows you to transfer 50/100% of the damage dealt with Smite and Holy Fire to a nearby target as healing. You can essentially heal a dungeon run by casting Smite and Holy Fire, increasing the group's overall damage output and thereby lowering the amount of damage taken.

Win/win.

I agree with Maz. Don't worry about it right now. It's crazy how fast mana goes at lower levels, but it starts getting better the higher you get. What I normally do is drink immediately after I get out of combat. I've never played Holy, but Discipline is awesome. Of course that's my opinion lol

Thanks guys, so, basically stay Discipline? Is holy ever worth it?

Also, when you drink in-game, drink out of the game as well. Makes the run much more fun.

Holy is definitely worth it, but it's a different style. Discipline is a sort of aggressive healing style where you can dish out some decent damage while healing people, while Holy is more of a passive healing style where it's all about sitting back and throwing heals left and right.

I like Discipline because it's a mix of damage dealing and healing, which makes leveling through endless dungeons more fun, to me, than simply healing non-stop. My advice would be to try them both once you get into the 30's. Resetting your talents doesn't cost a lot (unless you do it a lot of times), so it's worth testing it for yourself.

I haven't healed an instance group yet, but I've leveled to 85 as discipline. I like how the toolkit feels - like my healadin main back in the days when Sacred Shield was big, only with an even bigger emphasis on mitigation, which I like (I wish they'd taken paladins in that direction, but I guess they felt they needed to distinguish discipline from holy as much as possible). Instant-cast shield and emphasis on single-target direct heals with a cast time (or channeled so quickly that it might as well be a cast time).

As for atonement, our raid group's disc priest doesn't even take it (or evangelism, which goes along). It's great for questing. Smite damage doesn't seem to scale all that well, and there was a point (late Outland/early Northrend, IIRC) when I could take on even rare spawns and wanted-poster quest targets and end up close to full on both health and mana. By the time I got to the Thrall quest chain to open the Molten Front, my dps is 50% higher, but the mobs are so much more buff I have to drink if I do four in a row, five or six if shadowfiend is up.

I think that in instances, smite healing gives you another choice for times of relatively low, sustainable damage, and choice is good. It's times like that that can be boring for a "pure" healing style.

Hey (: <(Main Disc Priest)

Basically, what everyone else says is correct. I'd like to add that, as a disc healer, expecially low level it is really hard to die. Bubble is very OP, and with the new patch, is even better for low leveled priests.

This was posted awhile ago, so i thought i'd add my rotation in, which helps me a lot, but everyone is different.

Bubble (stop the damage from coming)
Prayer of mending (Prevent that first damage when the bubble stops)
Renew (Even though it sucks, if your fight is a long one, it makes up for 5-10% of the healing)
Repeat (obviously, throw cooldowns in when needed)

I hope this helps, if anyone has any ideas or your own rotations, please help me out also, im always trying to improve.

ps. Can't wait to test out the panda monk class, im guessing it will be alot like priests, but a bit more ritual style, and smoother maybe. (:

The Threadomancy is strong in this one...

Just thought I'd point out for anyone that reads the old information and gets confused. Atonement is now level 60, so no Smite healing at low-levels.
