I have been pvping with my rogue since he was created. I leveled in Battle grounds only and have done a couple raids, but other then that, it has all be pvp.

Since the new patch, I am having a really hard time keeping up. My damage has gone WAY down, so it seems. Some of the spells that I would crit 50k with before the patch, I am seeing only crit, 14-18k. There are other issues I am having. My survivability seems to be a lot less now as well. My gear has not changed other then a couple new cata items so if anything, it should be improving, but that is not the case.

I am also a little confused on this PVP power stat. Any tips on how I should spec, gear, gem and so forth. I love my rogue a lot and right now I am just not making the grade with him. I was never super good with him, but I am not a total noob either. I just want to play him in bg's and have some fun. Getting owned all the time now is not fun.

Thanks for any help in advance!!!

1) Play better. I've never had issues on my rogue, even when damage was low (spec and gear for survivability).

2) Don't base your enjoyment of a class on how often you get owned in PvP. If you're getting owned, it's probably because you're not as good as you think you are and you run into situations where only the pros win (or no one can win).

3) Read arenajunkies.com.

Also, as for spec, there is no cookie cutter spec anymore. With the implementation of the new system, all talent trees are (at least, supposed to be) whatever you'd enjoy the most. That was Blizzard's intention to take out the need for cookie cutter specs and to have you choose what you'd enjoy.

I haven't noticed any change thus far in the damage my rogue puts out. I actually found her doing about 20k or so more damage than before patch (of course, talking from a PvE standpoint).

I'm quite imagining that players will find a way to make a "cookie cutter" spec.

"You're doing that boss without Cauterize? What are you, stupid?" And so on and so forth.

If one things is certain there are tenacious individuals who will find the way to do something, regardless of whether one really exists or not. It is essential if dungeon finder PuGs are to go smoothly. Anyway, I suspect blizzard underestimated their resolve.

I do understand that some of the issues are due to my lack of skill. However, I have heard multiple people talk about how rogues (subtly mostly) where nerfed in this latest patch. I never had the desire to be OP or play a "better class" then anyone else so not being able to do what I used to do is not a problem. I just want to find out a good way to play my rogue so I am not as owned as I am now.

Also, being on the top of the charts never happened to me except when I was leveling. I am a casual player so I will never be the best on my server and I am fine with that. Again, I just want to be able to survive a little longer then I am now so I am looking for ways to improve my play style, even if it is just a little bit. :)

I will check out Elitist Junkies, or whatever the site is called, and see if I can learn anything there. :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Most of the people that are complaining are the people like I used to be, playing in 2000+ arena brackets. In BGs, I doubt that there is that much of a difference if you know how to gear/play a rogue since you're almost never focused immediately (unless you're doing some awesome 1vN, and then you should already be prepared to get your teeth kicked in).

If you're not surviving very long, look to get your PvP resilience up to about 66%. That will give you an HP pool and the resilience to survive, and also use the Recuperate glyph. Take Shadowstep, and make sure you have a healer shadowstep macro if you're doing that (I use focus shadowstep and change my focus to random people I'm fighting near) so you can use ShS to it's fullest (it can be used on friendly targets too, allowing you to GTFO and recup/LOS.

I agree about the whole speccing thing. Quite honestly, it was a bit difficult to get out of the mindset of "I've got to pick this up instead of this because that's what I'm told is the best out of all theorycrafting..." But it is also kind of nice that I can finally just pick some fun talents instead of what I "NEED."

It's kind of hard not to get cookie cutter builds when some of the talents are almost custom made for specific specializations. Ultimately, some talents provide a greater benefit to a certain specialization than others, making them superior and thus part of the cookie cutter spec. A Demonology Warlock, for instance, would want to pick up the Grimoire of Supremacy talent, because the talent benefits his demons which also benefit from his Mastery. An Affliction or Destruction Warlock does not rely on his demons nearly as much and would want to pick up the Grimoire of Sacrifice to boost their own damage output.

It's no different from the "pick this, this, this, this, these three, this, these two and this talent" cookie cutter specs we had before. We just have less chuffa to wade through before getting to the interesting sh*t.

Edit: Wrong tenses. So tense.

The thing I am likely is that there are very few talents that will be best 100% of the time. Most of the choices have certain fights where they will be situationally better. Pretty sure almost everyone will be carrying around a stack of Dust of Disappearance (or the 90 equivalent) to make changes between fights. Much more interesting than setting your talents once and leaving them that way for the expansion.

You use Dust of Disappearance on talents now? I thought that was still only for Glyphs.

Pretty sure the Dust does both now while we are 85. Once you are 86+ you need Tome of Clear Mind to do either.

Just tested it and can confirm that Vanishing Powder and Dust of Disappearance can be used to reset a single talent tier.

Did not know this until now. Could have saved a lot of money since my Shaman has about five stacks of the stuff in the bank. Smiley: facepalm
