Core i3 sandy bridge and its integrade GPU + FFXI questionFollow

#1 Apr 16 2011 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
hello everyone,
and sorry if this has been ask before here.
my question is about the core i3 2100 and its GPU, i'm planning to build a low budget PC with that CPU and well i'm wondering if anyone has played FFXI using that CPUs graphics processor, using the H67 board, without the need to buy a GPU card(AMD,Nvidia) so i'm wondering if FFXI runs well on that or i really need to get a GPU card regarless?. i'm not looking for perfection here, just decent play and nothing fancy, after all this PC i'm building is just for FFXI and casual web browsing, anyways any advice or info is appreciated thanks .

Do you have any idea how old FFXI is at this point? I don't think you could buy a computer that doesn't run it well.

Unless they recoded the game recently, Intel GMAs still chug trying to run it, I try to stay away from integrated cards to play any game.

You can go for the non-ti version for a cheaper, lower-wattage version. If you are only playing FFXI, you don't need the stronger card.

I don't know about the 2000 series, but i recently bought a new laptop with the i5-2410, which comes with the 3000 series GPU and it works well on the 14' laptop. No lag unless i'm in port jueno or other very high traffic area. Cheap GPU's are available for desktops and will probably work better for other games as well so that is a viable route if you plan to play other games.

My laptop with a core 2 duo processor (2Mhz) and integrated graphics chip worked well everywhere in XI. The game is not very intensive in the technology department.

If you are only going to play XI, you can go for a lower budget rig. If you want to play other games too, then a Sandy Bridge with p67 motherboard and a GPU is the way to go right now. The i3 has very nice power, despite only being dual core. The i5 is about $50-60 more, if you want to go that route. It can be a 20 FPS increase in some games.

It's well worth it to get even a lower end video card for a desktop PC, if only to give yourself more port options. You don't need a $250 latest and greatest by any means - I'm getting fabulous performance out of a $75 Radeon HD 5670, and it's low enough voltage that you shouldn't even have to get a horribly expensive PSU (my 400 watt PSU is running it without breaking a sweat.) And that card supportes EyeFinity and gives you three port options, including HDMI, so when you go to upgrade your monitor 3 years from now you'll still be set.
