I am trying to play! I own a mac book pro 5.5 with a Nvidia Geforce 9400M running Boot Camp 3.1 and Windows 7 - 32 for some odd reason when I try and load FFXI it gives me the error code unable to activate Direct3D does anyone know what on earth I am supposed to do to fix this? Also my sound is totally gone when i am on windows 7... If you can help it would be much appreciated thank you for your time!

I'd try reinstalling the video driver from nvidia.com. The sound driver is going to be a bit more tricky, you'll have to figure out which driver you need and reinstal,l that one as well. Chances are its an IDT / soundmax driver.

Well I gave up on the sound quite some time ago lol but I did go to Nvidia the website and download the newest driver for my video card but when I go to check if Direct3D is enabled it is still disabled...and there is no solid option to turn it on when i go to my resolution screen as part of a supposed fix my driver for my screen is Digital Flat Panel 1280X768 60hrtz my actual display is LCD 1280X800 but there is no driver for that so i just went with what was previously mentioned by the way the game opens in a small window that is a little over half my screen and most of the menus are almost see through i am not really sure if any of these descriptions help but i am hoping someone can help! thanks!!

So i figured out exactly what went wrong... thanks for the advice though for future reference anyone else who ever has these types of issues should know that when you are doing an boot camp install of any new windows operating system you should always follow the directions of the boot camp installation guide on apple support... the reason for this is because in order to get your appropriate drivers and for everything to work correctly once windows is installed you need your Mac OSX installation disc which is the crucial element that I was not using and it caused my sound to not work... and my video card to not display properly despite updating drivers through windows... I could be wrong about all of this but I am pretty sure all the correct information needs to be taken from the Mac OSX installation disc... as soon as I get my hands on one I will update this post and let you all know if it worked! Thanks again
