Sounds aren't working anymoreFollow

So my sounds aren't working anymore, this has been going on for about a year.

They were just fine, untill I transferred my PC from my old apartment to new one, back then my PC didn't even recognize/find that there was any sound device there, so there wasn't even that soundicon in the lower right corner of the screen.

Now a while back that icon reappeared and my PC recognices that there is a sound device and I can adjust the sounds, but still, nothing comes out of the speakers or headphones.
I've checked all the wires and nothing is loose, I have installed new drivers and deleted the old ones before doing so. I've also checked from BIOS that they're enables. (onboard audio device or something=enabled)

Any ideas how could I get my sounds working again?

Most motherboards have integrated soundcards these days. Its not the burden on the system that it once was. The problem with the way they implemented them though, is those sound cards really aren't a true hardware device as we recognize other hardware, but rather a digital signal processor Codec. So there isn't an INF file for the driver as such, therefore its very difficult to completely remove the sound "driver" from windows or completely restore it. It could also be that the audio hardware itself was burned out.

If you have been through the normal trouboleshooting stepos of removing the driver, uninstalling the old, and reinstalling, the next steps would reuire editing the registry, etc. It might be quicker and safer to simply reinstall windows. Thanks! I'm afraid I have lost the installation cd(s) of windows somewhere. Might need to get a new one.
