So my sounds aren't working anymore, this has been going on for about a year.

They were just fine, untill I transferred my PC from my old apartment to new one, back then my PC didn't even recognize/find that there was any sound device there, so there wasn't even that soundicon in the lower right corner of the screen.

Now a while back that icon reappeared and my PC recognices that there is a sound device and I can adjust the sounds, but still, nothing comes out of the speakers or headphones.
I've checked all the wires and nothing is loose, I have installed new drivers and deleted the old ones before doing so. I've also checked from BIOS that they're enables. (onboard audio device or something=enabled)

Any ideas how could I get my sounds working again?

Oh, and it's an integrated soundcard.

Most motherboards have integrated soundcards these days. Its not the burden on the system that it once was. The problem with the way they implemented them though, is those sound cards really aren't a true hardware device as we recognize other hardware, but rather a digital signal processor Codec. So there isn't an INF file for the driver as such, therefore its very difficult to completely remove the sound "driver" from windows or completely restore it. It could also be that the audio hardware itself was burned out.

If you have been through the normal trouboleshooting stepos of removing the driver, uninstalling the old, and reinstalling, the next steps would reuire editing the registry, etc. It might be quicker and safer to simply reinstall windows. Your other option would be to add a dedicated sound card and bypass it entirely. Something along the lines of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102027

I wish I could eat your brain and absorb your knowledge of such things, Kao.

Alas, I'm no Sylar.

Thanks! I'm afraid I have lost the installation cd(s) of windows somewhere. Might need to get a new one.

If you have a store brand pc most companies have install discs for like a fraction of the price of going out getting a new OS cd off the shelf. Just a small tid bit to know if you end up doing a repair and can't find the discs.

With that said, make sure you're computer is up on windows updates. Namely service packs. Drivers treat the different services packs as different operating systems. I highly doubt this is the issue, but it's something to check and be sure of.

Otherwise, since Kao always beast me to the first post on these Smiley: glare <3, get a dedicated sound card that should fix all the problems.

Although it's probably not your issue because this is so crazy specific, what sort of speaker output are you using? I had strange sound issues when I tried to output DVI to HDMI for my video, and my video card was tricked into believing that since it was connected to an HDMI cable that it was supposed to handle the sound (when it most certainly wasn't.) I also was using integrated sound. Turns out its a bug in the nVidia drivers, and one they are not in a hurry to fix. The solution for me was a new video card, but a new sound card would have worked just as well.
