I have been having some issues with crashes today in SW and I think it may be time to upgrade my video card. I currently have a GT 320.

The older I get the harder time I have looking for new equipment. What would be a good card to upgrade to? I prefer Nivida and I would like to run and mid to high setting but not break the bank.

Thanks.

The nvidia EVGA 560 GTX would do the trick

You can see a general layout of where video cards fall and their price ranges in general here: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+320

Be advised that those prices are somewhat out of date and can be +/- $100 in many cases.

Kao, it still amazes me when you link these kind of comparisons, and I see my video card ranked higher than many of the newer generation cards. It warms my heart a bit knowing I got one hell of a deal.

That comparison irks me. Why is the 6850 performing better than the 5850. (The 6870 is the rehash of the 5850, the 6850 is the rehash of the 5770.) And why is the 5870 listed as $750.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem to be out preforming it by much, so maybe it's just small changes to the components and the way it handles heat produced?

Plus, there are * and ** near the price, but I can't seem to find where those footnotes referenced are.

At the upper end on the benchmarking, you start running into the multiple CPU video cards. Take the 590 GTX for example. It truely does clock in slightly slower than a 580 GTX per core, but there are two CPU's per card as opposed to the 580 GTX's one. So a single 590 GTX is faster than a single 580 GTX even though it sin't shown as such on that chart due to how that particular benchmark operates. Same thing with some of the ATI cards. Also some of the ATI cards that were processor shrinks and re-releases included faster ram than their origionals. A die shrink will generally be slightly faster anyways just because they can clock it higher due to better heat efficiency of the smaller chip. Couple that with going from DDR3 video ram to DDR5 video ram and you do get a measurable bump. That being said, benchmarking programs measure things differently, some of them focus more on shader model 2 than shader model 3, some of them focus more on tests that perform better on older cards, some focus on tests that are more directX 11 focused. You could make an argument for placement up or down for more than a couple of those cards, but it is a good general overview.

Yeah I agree the general placements are good +/- a few places. It just irked me for some reason, and not being able to find the explanations for '*' and '**' was sketchy. I mean the 5870 wasn't even within $200 of that listed price at launch lol.
