Please Help! EQ2 freezes and Vizio TV shuts off (was forum=1Follow

#1 Apr 27 2012 at 6:10 PM Rating: Decent
I've been playing on my vizio tv since February and had no trouble until this last GU.
Computer is Alienware Aurora_ALX, Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240 driver updated.
After a short time logged in, my TV says no RBG signal and shuts off. Even when I turn it back on it doesn't show game and I can't get back to my desktop.
I have to use the power button on my computer to turn it off then restart.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
I contacted SOE and they've had me changing everything I've already tried, deleting files, resolution, etc.
Thanks

Just a wild guess, but it sounds like your video card might be overheating. Do you have another video card you could put in there to see if the problem still happens?

I have a Vizio 32inch that I use as my primary monitor and havent had this issue, using a different gfx though (amd 6750) . I would have to agree with Calthine and say maybe your video card is overheating and causing the trouble. Wish I could offer more suggestions, but when was the last time you cleaned out your box?

Hubby suggest that maybe you've had a fan on your video card die.

If you can find one to TRY first I'd do that. If we're wrong it can be an expensive test!

It's either overheating, or underpowered. Alienware uses a pathetically underpowered PSU unit compared to the amount and type of hardware they're throwing in the case.Honestly, you would be better of taking this thread to the Hardware support forum and giving Kaolian a stab at this problem.

Good idea! I'll move it over there.

It's most likely a heat issue. Most cards are fine at idle without their fan, but as soon as 3d engages, they heat up quite a bit more. it's possible that the latest game changes utilize more horsepower on your card than before, and your settings might now be too high. it's also possible that the latest game update changed some of the default video settings and they are now higher than you had them set before, but I'd definitly check for a functional fan first. You can also use the free program "speedfan" to see if you have a video temperature issue, If it is the fan, the video card temperature should be abnormally high even at idle.
