41-43, Same camp and same pets, but now fight Puroburos, Pods and skeletons.

I am currently finishing up 42 here. Just like to add that with good timing and pops you can run a decent circle around GC and pick up some great EXP. Wingrats vs Wingrats in their rooms, (I avoided skeletons) EM vs T was very common at 40 & 41. Also Siege bats and beetles make great EXP between Wingrat respawns.

There are 5 rooms with pairs of Wingrats (non aggressive, link like crazy), if both bats are T, charm and release one outside of their room. Most rooms are in close proximity so work out a plan of attack, like room #1 then #2 then #4 then #3 to get the most from you chain. Repop time on dead bats is a long time so move to seiges (40-41) and beetles (41-42). You will be releasing Wingrats in their own room so no depop, let them recharge if ya want or re-charm and release outside of room.

Pets hold hate quite well even with /NIN. Also DC Wingrats can handle T siege bats they just need a biscuit and some support tanking from you. DC Sieges handle T beetles quite well, again may need a biscuit, etc. at 41 they were giving me ~300 EXP with Ring, no chain. I can guess I made ~5K in 1.5-2 hours, no downtime and didn't touch one skele or pot or bomb, bats might be the way to go if blood sabers, -ga spells, etc. are ticking you off.

A word of warning though, blood aggro: I barely hit yellow but it does happen, some rooms have openings to other rooms filled with skeletons, if you are in said room(s) be sure you fight as far from them as possible. The same goes for the doors facing the hallways, seige bats will aggro from outside if you are too close. I used Heel & Fight a lot while in here.

by first tunnel, does this mean the entrance tunnel?

i've never been here before, i have a map up in front of me here at work on my comp.. is there an exact location i should be looking for like e-9, h-8 etc?

again i've never been here so goblin room is foreign to me..

As soon as you zone into Loo you will come to a little room with 3 gobs (H-11). Immediately past these is the tunnel (H-10) that they are talking about. I leveled here using leeches Vs. Gobs from the first room and the big room (H-9) being careful of the Cockatrices. The Cockatrices are only difficult due to the ptrification move that they like to spam causing you to change pets frequently. These gobs also seemed to love to suiced for me all the time. Good luck.

WTF?

Not a bad time at all. In fact it is my 3 rd favorite xp spot thus far. Take the time to convert the leeches to EM or DC and you will be just fine. As for the gobs suiciding I stand like this:

Me >> Gob >> << Pet

I always stay unlocked and as soon as I see it readying bomb toss I take off running! I keep the camera looking at the gob and my finger on the Leave macro so if it drops to its feet BOOM pet is gone and I get full xp! I have never been hit by a gob bomb by doing this yet. Unless......I am off in la la land or the wife wants to talk to me. hehe

thanks

bomb tosses are 50/50 with me. i do the same thing with the unlocked and ready to run like a thief

but sometimes in my desperation i'll get stuck in a bush or a mob will jump in front of me trying to sell me something and thats when i'll catch the bomb to my back..

i just need more gobbie practice, but those large bombs is what gets me, fight just started, so i think no biggie once he pops that bomb i'm running in to engage again, next thing you know its a huge bomb, takes himself out but not my pet..

I love this guide, used it alot but it needs another update, most of the mobs listed are a bit too much for you to handle even at the levels the guide says you can xp on. orrr, they're way too weak to be wasting your time on.

Like Qufim for instance....

Qufim from 30-34? Nuh uh, not happening.

Everything in qufim from cons as dc to a lvl 30, even the giants. Banshees are 'tough' to a lvl 30 and are in no way worth the hassle. The only thing there worth exping on are the leeches which still con as tough to a lvl 31. But like the banshees are a waste of time trying to kill as they have ridiculous amounts of defense and hp, can heal themselves, and link like crazy.

Don't waste your time here, try carpenter's landing or something... Even battalia downs will yield better xp.

charm DC-EM leaches and sic em on T leachers and gamblers

you probobly will have to ghetto leave your leachers as they are very strong

while waiting for gob respawns i killed DC-Ep snippers for water crystals so i could get some jugs from my cooking freind i used a fly pet

NOTES:
50, Camp behind Banishing Gate #1, and camp in stairs near tunnels with bombs. Use Citadel Bats vs. Explosures. Bombs lose agro if you move upstairs. Use sneak.

The above camp is practically impossible to use now, it seems before the Dec. 2005 update, BSTs could simply move 2 Citadel Bats down to the areas where the Explosures spawn, and just use Charm/Fight/Leave over and over, without losing their precious pets. But, now it is very, very hard to kill those Explosures, because by the time you go upstairs to fetch a new pet bat, the Explosure will have already despawned, and the time you spent fighting it will be wasted.

If someone knows a way to use this camp effectively after the update, please feel free to explain how to correctly use it. All other guides don't include this camp anymore, probably because of the above mentioned problems. I did manage to get 600 xp down there, but it was slow and dangerous because i had to sneak past dozens of Funnel Bats, and a Fetid Flesh just to rech the Explosure, and immediately run back upstairs to get another bat before the first was dead.

I think i can help with this one... i hung out at the tunnel after the stairs I-8.. there are at least 3-5 sets of bats there at any time.. grab bat send to explosure, i would heel and then fight again to move the explosures so my bats woudlnt aoe anything.. grab a bat again wash rinse repeat.. if you run out of bats or explosures, move further up the map to H-7 by the stairs there, there are another sets of bats usually around 2 or 3 bats.. and more explosures and dromas..

i went back and forth between those spots for a very long time and loved it... no bats flood the tunnels so you can heal safely and i never had a problem with the dromas since my bst/nin would have no magic to cast.. you can stay in this area for a very long time..

I kept the fight roughly at the start of the tunnels to avoid aoe and its also far enough that if you release your pet he should dissapear or will at least not agro you until it heals enough for you to recharm it when your ready..

only minor prob i had was sometimes the bats were so close together that in charming one, one would sometimes agro so i would stay my first bat, move, release charm the agro..... the only way to die here is if you get to close to self destruct.. again this was one of my favorite places to lvl and its always empty at least for me it was..

so the original info should be changed from camp in stairs to camp in tunnel

So, basically you mean we should use Funnel Bats, oh, well, guess I'll have to wait a couple more levels till the bats start conning EM, because at 50 they are all T, unless I am mistaken. Thanks anyway, guess I'll wait for level 51 or 52.

I came to try this out at level 37 and it still sucks. You should be higher. Your target mobs to kill (Alraunes,Krakens,Toucans) are far from EM at level 37. Yes you can kill them allready using Jagils (not Big Jaws), but the fights take too long in order to chain.

try behind gate 1 in garliage or grind it out in gustav if your unsure about your charm success rate and or difficult lvl with the bats.. once you can charm the funnel bats the explosures take care of themselves..

and gate one is easy to get past a party will always show up if not most ppl on the stairs are usually kind enough to open it up for you

Don't know if anybody noted this in their time in (if they spent it there) Pashow Marshlands, but the min level on Thread Leeches is actually 19. Didn't notice the level error (error appears in FF atlas as well as this thread) until I dinged 20 there and started checking leeches and found a DC. Just wanted to throw that out there.

A big problem I was having for a while was level 11. I finally found an awesome camp. The D-7 area of Konschat Highlands is perfect at level 11, maybe even 12. Only Rock Eaters spawn there and nothing else so you're completely safe and the exp is fast.

I'm not sure if anyone posted this already or not and it doesn't look like this is really updated anymore, sadly, but I'd like to make a comment/suggestion about:

32-39: Eastern Altepa Desert, specifically the lvl 37. I had a heck of a time with Dhalmels here. A bunch of them still coned VT,which probably would have been fine to take with pet swaps, or IT...only found a few T's. Mostly, the larger problem was that most of the beetles still conned T to me. And well obviously, with the mpk patch I can't convert and drag one half way across the map XD...I guess my bad for being a noob and forgeting how far apart the mobs where.

Anyway, I found a fairly decent spot to xp at 37 in E.Altepa! Around J-7/K-7 there are beetles, many of which coned EM to me and ants which were mostly EM to T. So I'd use the beetles here, drag the ants(theres plenty of them btw since they wander around the area plus there are some down the ramp that leads to quicksand caves) back to the beetles spawn spot and kill them. Even with a drg/whm in the area killing beetles and ants xp was still pretty decent ^^.

I haven't tried dhalmels at 38 yet, however on the way back to town to change jobs and warp, I noticed a lot more conned T. It might be possible to camp at I-6ish. There's a rock pillar and three beetles that spawn around it,possibly more in the area surrounding the pillar. The only problem is, there is usually a party here so pets/prey can become sparse...but if you can get this spot without a pt being there it seems like it would have potential...just have to watch out for the dhalmel links.

edit: Oh yeah and BST SUXX XD

This guide is a really great guide. Thank you for the help it's givenm me. I would like to suggest to most who read it though to hold off before going to a zone at the levels this guide suggest going there. Use this for some direction, and not as a statement for where you should go at the specified levels. For example: Going to Ulegarande Range at 58 is stupid. Most mobs are all T++ in that zone. Personally, I'd stay out until 60. Thats when I found most mobs to be DC and EM that I would use as pets. Other than that, using T++ pets by going places at the exact levels specified by this guide has only lost me a bunch of exp.

might have been a mob movement adjustment because there are no gobbie poachers near the Yuhtunga Jungle OP, only gobbie furriers (ep @42), and the crawlers are far away in the tunnels.

The E-9 location however has a nice mix of gobbie robbers T-IT and poachers T and dc crawlers.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but a spot that worked out very well for me between 52-53 (to grind it out before Bostaunieux Oubliette) was Fei'Yin. It was a nice to level somewhere where you don't find other parties or beastmaster competition often.

The camp was found downstairs in the first room, the same room where there is the pool to check for BST AF Feet. In the room there are 3 Droma and one Camazotz. Convert the Camazots to EM then throw it at any pot. I fought along side the bat, but just make sure to not use magic while there are other pots in the room. Often the bat is enough to take down a pot, but if you get unfortunate with ancient magic, there are a lot of Underworld Bats in the tunnels coming off the room to easily finish off the droma.

When you run out of Droma I played around with the Talos (dolls) in the hallway leading back upstairs that spawn behind the cermet doors. They are considerably tougher than the droma, but are quite enjoyable to fight once you get the hang of it.

So in summary:

Fei'Yin (52-53) ::Possibly 51-54::

Pets:
  • Camazots
  • (51-54)
  • Underworld Bats
  • (50-52)

    Prey
  • Droma
  • (54-56)
  • Talos
  • (53-55)

Notes: Droma will not agro sight or sound, so it is safe to melee in the room as long as you are using the Camazots as a pet and are not casting magic. Between the 3 Droma and 2 Talos you should not run out of mobs. Deeper in there are Utukku (ghosts) inside some cermet doors, so if you go farther in be careful of blood agro.

    Level: 72-74
    Area: Aydeewa Subterrane
    Prey: Aydeewa Diremite
    Pet: Aydeewa Diremite

Notes: They are in rooms around the pool used for the Blue Mage quest, An Empty Vessel. You should find this to be a low competition area close to the main city.

36, Same camp at H-7, or Valley before entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto. At Grotto entrance, use Makaras and Opo-Opos (See Warning) vs. Sahagin.
37-38, Camp exclusively in valley before Sea Serpent Grotto. USe Makaras and Opo-Opos (See Warning) vs. Sahagin
WARNING: Opo-Opos difficult to charm and are powerful!

Is it feasible to solo here at 33? I noticed that the pets seem to be within the level range of 33 and so does the prey, but you say lvl 35-38 for soloing here

I xped bst in party pretty much all the way to 50, then I started to like soloing better, so I used this guide; however no offense, loads of ideas are not that clever, or at least not for the average bst, like me, that doesn't run around with CHR+1000 gears. I'm playing a mithra for the record; possibly the worst race yea I know but I have fun with it, which is all that matters to me. I don't have a whole lot of CHR gears either and it's not a priority for me to buy some.

Anyway, this guide helped me yes and I'm thankful for it, but it also made me waste my time on occasion, going to places that I simply could not use for xp. So I have some comments on several ideas, which I hope will help people so they don't do the same mistakes.

    NOTES: Camp at I-7.

The ONE coeurl that is there is like DC- (surrounded by mobs that aggro, too) and gobs are close to VT... I don't know if people that suggested that were duo'ing or what but that is no good place to solo.

    NOTES: Camp near Horotutu Entrance.
    CONTRIBUTOR(S): Genova

Mind/fleshcravers are nowhere near Horotutu entrance; Fallen Soldiers/Mages are, but the only potential pet that's around is a DC Dark Aspic that is way too hard to charm, especially at level 55. Consider Toraimarai Canal good at 60+ (well decent, GC still is the very best camp), next to Windy Walls. Oh and also the only reason why I went there was because my nation being Windy and having a pass, it was easy for me. For someone without a pass... eh not so much. Too much running around I'd think.

57-58, Camp at tunnel. Use Hares vs. Bats and Tigers.

Uleguerand Range at level 57 yea right... Tigers and bats are VT/IT, hares T+. Tried again at level 59, I could only find one EM rabbit, next a couple VT tigers... Everything is either T or VT yea, that's no good camp at 57-59, maybe 60~ if that.

    NOTES:
62, Not recommended to fight Bandits.
    CONTRIBUTOR(S): Jesh, UserThree, WisePiggy, JubilationLee

Just checked this place now, level 62, all rabbits are T, pretty much all lizzards VT... So I say wait for level 63, and even 64 really. With ToAU coming up, I don't know if I will though.

    Again I did not mean to offend anyone, sorry if I did. I guess people that posted those ideas just remembered roughly where they xpd at lower level, and relied on alla to find out what level mobs were. Or that yea they had uber CHR and charmed T mobs at all times, I don't know. My BST is level 62 so I tried those places pretty recently, I'm just trying to be more precise to help people out. Obviously I haven't tried any higher level area; I think I will migrate to ToAU as soon as I can though^^;

    Anyway hope this helps!

At level 60, in Uleguerand Range, I have found Hares Vs Snolls a much better proposition than those damned Tigers. As you enter the Zone, just go straight ahead, and down the first ramp.

In this area you will find about 8 hares, and about 6 snolls. Bear in mind that there are also Buffalo here, now these will aggro sight, but they have very poor seeing distance, I have done the whole of level 60 here and not managed to annoy one.

Basically for me it was like Garlaige Citadel, without the parties stealing your pets. The move you are looking out for is Hypothermal Combustion, and by look out for, I mean be nowhere near when it happens.

You do get the occasional Buffalo farmer come along, but that just makes it even easier. I was getting regular chain 5, and it is fast exp. Compared to fighting tigers, this was far less hassle.

A Cwm Annwn does roam this area, I just dodged it, but you may prefer just to kill it.

NOTES: Before going in trapdoor, call jug pet and cast sneak. Drop into downstairs and select a DC Aspic, and launch pet on it. Head to Ronfaure zone by taking every right turn possible. Keep sneak up! Once at zone, Leave Jug pet and charm Aspic. Use same Aspic after each fight, and fight on stairs. Recommend at least one piece of AF gear to assist in charming, and a Light Staff is a must, as slimes are resistant to charm. Room only for two BSTs or a BST and a party.
    CONTRIBUTOR(S): Zonny, Durginn

this shouldn't work anymore, pet vanish, camp should be in the sewers now.

This still works beautifully, it's just a little slower. What I would do is get a Slime, fight a mob. After the fight I'd use Stay on my Slime until it was full or uncharmed then recharm.
    Rinse/repeat as necessary.

I just wanted to say that when soloing here, you can actually melee with your pets and successfully run away from Hypothermal Combustion. No doubt, you have to be on the lookout, prepared to run at the first sign of a tp attack, but the point is, it doesn't go off near as fast as self-destruct. Basically, it's like running away from a gob bomb toss. Maybe people already knew this, but I just haven't seen it before and thought that the up-and-comers might like to benefit from my own reckless testing.
