Every so often someone brings up the topic of those sheet pizzas or I just for some reason think about them.

Then I want to buy a case...

The dried out fried chicken was so good. So were the mashed potatoes and buttered rolls. At one school I was at in California back in the late 80's, they served french fries that tasted exactly like McDonald's. That was all everyone ate. They would spend all their lunch money on mountains of fries. At one point the school was going to stop offering them because of health concerns, but I moved out of state before anything was changed. Ugh, I loved those fries.

Nah, if I want floppy soggy crap pizza, I'll move to New York.

I don't miss the mass produced "TV Dinner" style meals from elementary or middle school. The high school cafeteria sometimes had something decent.

Hey, I'm just saying what I don't like. I also don't crave greasy Salisbury steak, plasticine chicken Parmesan patties or microwaved cobbler with stray peas floating in it. But maybe they serve that in New York as well. It'd fit the culinary theme after all.

We use to have this yellow cheese sauce they let us eat with everything. Wish I had a tub of it for food dippen.

And a butter/garlic/noodle/spice dish. I've come close to making it, but it was the best at school.

Also my school had the best peanut butter and grape jelly. Like I would but it in the 5lb tubs in comes in if I could find it good.

Yea, my school had cheap food but it really wasn't that bad, and for the most part was decent and I wish I could go out and eat lunch for $3.

When I was in elementary school, one day every week they would serve a "Breaded Pork Cutlet" with chocolate pudding for dessert. All of us students would dip the slab of breaded meat in the pudding.

We had the worst school cafeteria in the entire state of Washington growing up at Orchards Elementary school. I know this to be a fact because the school lunch gods later smote them for their insolence in calling what they served "food" by causing the entire food prep area roof to collapse, dumping years worth of stale rainwater and asbestos straight down. Unfortunatly no one was there that day, for such a death would have been a mercy. They had large industrial costco sized herb and spice dispensers, filled with the actual product, still shrink wrapped and unusued after years that I was there. I don't think they ever once even accidentally tried salting anything. and of course us kids at the time couldn't be trusted with salt shakers to make things palatable.

So, no. Miss them? Never. Wake up screaming with nightmares about them? occasionally.

hamburgers should never have the consistancy of shoe leather. Neither should pizza. Or salad.

When I was in high school, they changed lunch vendors my senior year. The food went from "decent enough school food" to "terrible" and jumped 50-75% in price. After numerous complaints, the students organized a boycott and just either brought lunches or ate from the vending machines. By the end of the week, with very few student sales, the company doing the lunch service admitted that they had far underbid the contract and straight up couldn't afford to supply decent food at a reasonable cost. They got cut from the contract and someone new brought in who restored the status quo -- if not a little better.

I have fond memories of it as one of the few times in my experience a bunch of kids thought they'd change the system at school and it actually got somewhere.

They all are out there in Chicagoland. You don't eat pizza with a knife and fork for cryin' out loud. This is how you eat pizza:

Pizza should always be eaten with a fork because there should be enough toppings on it that you can't pick it up without it flopping.

I'm starting to wonder if Jophiel's idea of NY pizza is pizza from up north in Albany or something silly like that, he so misinformed that Bill Nye is going to have to have a debate with him soon. Soggy and/or floppy? That sounds pitiful, and you should feel ashamed for even thinking the pizza over here deserves those adjectives.

That being said, the only school food I can think of that I'd miss is stuff that they removed after the whole heathy food ******** thing went into place. We had some freshly baked chocolate chip cookies that were so soft and yummy that sometimes you couldn't even separate them, and sometimes you could probably eat them with a spoon if you wanted.

We just had a video posted of some cheap floppy crap NY pizza being folded. There's no denying it. If that's what you're into, great. I got out of that by middle school but I understand that some of you need to cling to such things rather than advancing through life.

There is a local grocerystore that actually sells school pizzas in the frozen food section. They are simply labeled "School Pizza" . I have never bought them though.

The only thing my school lunch offered that was any good was "turkey tetrazini" which was spaghetti, chunk turkey dark meat, and vegetables in this amazing lemon butter garlic sauce. I usually got lunch that day. Every other day, a PB&J and a juice box with an apple sufficed. In 9th grade, I didn't even have the PB&J... it was a pack of crackers instead.

What makes you think it's cheap floppy crap because it was folded? You can fold cardboard, and that ability alone doesn't make it floppy or soggy.
